4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014

Room is small, but really liked the design. Modern and clean. Great location. walking distance to just about anything you want to see and do in Kagoshima for a short stay. Only windows was in the bathroom, but didn't matter as the shower had a glass wall. Great stay

Yes this is a new hotel of cool design. I bought 4 breakfast vouchers for my 4 day stay at 1000 Yen apiece. Not bad value for a varied buffet. My serious complaint would be the filthy condition of the dining room carpet (It really made me queasy) and a hand wash basin tucked away in the corner. It really made me wonder about cleanliness in the kitchen? Also I wanted to add a night to my stay and was quoted a rate close to double what I had been paying. These two factors spoilt my stay.
I would add that the staff were flawless and the room - though small had some unique creative touches such as a glassed-in bathroom. But oh that carpet and in pristine Japan too. Most unusual. Oh and the greedy room rate bump. Yes it was a Saturday but come on. I moved.

Stayed for 5 nights, rooms are on the small side for couples but good for solo. Room design is great, everything built in, sleek and compact, making use of the space. Massage chair and shower were both great, and nice coffee downstairs in Tullys every morning. V. good value for money, comfortable and complete.

The hotel is located just near the Tenmonkan tram station and is just next to the Tenmonkan shopping street and lots of restaurants.

The hotel is new and clean, but the rooms are small. The queen size bed is against the wall, but all the necessities are built in and rightly located all around the bed. Not much space to put large luggage if you have one. Bathroom is comparatively large and spotlessly clean.

There are convenient stores and Tulley's Coffee shop just next to the hotel entrance. As for parking, there are only 6 spaces for cars that are higher than 1.6M. If you come back after a day of sightseeing, it is likely that you won't have a space. However there are many parking garages behind the hotel, which costs 500 yen from 8pm-7am. 100yen for each additional hour.

The Remm Kagoshima had everything you need in a room, but in a very compact space. We had a queen-sized bed with a small space on one side and at the foot, and between this tiny space and the outside wall was a glassed-in bathroom with two windows to the street. [Sign says close window shades while taking a shower.] It all worked, but took a little getting used to. The toilet was the most advanced one I have seen in Japan, with a two-row control panel on the wall (in Japanese), and the shower had a handle spray as well as a rain-shower in the ceiling, with generous hot water. There was fast, free internet in the room. The initial connection took a little time, but it was only needed once, and then it was great. You will have to use your laptop as originally intended, as there is no room for a desk in this room. The refrigerator was only one (free) water bottle deep, so it would fit in the wall between the room and the bathroom. The breakfast buffet was very Japanese, but you could find hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, juice, and coffee if you want more Western food, or use your breakfast ticket for a set breakfast in the coffee shop on the first floor. The location was right on the main drag, where all the buses and tram are located. But it was very quiet, except for one day with a festival, and we could look down on it from the bathroom. The City View one-hour loop hop on/hop off bus leaves from across the street and up one block to the left, and is a great bargain (600 yen for all day, which includes free tram rides that day). The main train station is a 600 yen taxi ride (if you have a lot of luggage) or a 160 yen tram ride. The airport bus stops less than a block up the street (1200 yen, about 50 minutes). The ferry to Sakuragima (a great view) is a 20-minute walk. The neighborhood around the hotel (Tenmonkan) is where all the restaurants and shopping are located. So this hotel is very centrally located, and not expensive.

New hotel in Kagoshima - just opened 18 months ago. Good location just a few meters from the tram stop, a kilometer or two away from the train station, and right next to shopping and nightlife areas.

Tasteful and generous lobby area. Small but highly efficient rooms with comfortable beds, good amenities, and very good lighting. Very fast free internet. A massage chair is included in the room, but a small desk would have been very nice as well.

Some of the rooms have an odd layout where the only window is in the unit-bath instead of the bedroom. Other rooms have a standard layout - and the ones on the top floors even have Sakurajima views.

Overall a very good business hotel and good value for the money.
As is standard with most business hotels in Japan, they will not let you check-in early (before 13:00 or 14:00)

Room Tip: Some of the rooms have an odd layout where the only window is in the unit-bath instead of the bedroo...
