I never thought a restaurant can be maintained selling mainly tofu-based dishes. I was wrong. Umenohana is that place. This is a delightful restaurant that educates you on the versatility of tofu and the people who can cook it to perfection.
Eating here is a pleasant experience. With private dining rooms and beautifully decorated hallways with fresh flowers and superb lighting, this is a relaxing place for a slow, community lunch.
Every tofu dish here is outstanding. Some have enough thickness texture that you can easily use chopsticks with. There is the large, square tofu bowl on the table from where you use long chopsticks to skim and scrape up tofu skins to eat as a side dish. This is an interesting experience in itself.
Umenohana is basically for people who love tofu and its health benefits. It may not make for a hearty meal but you do emerge light and relax afterwards.
