“Convenient stopover in Nara”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

This is the second time in 3 months I stayed here and my second stay reinforced my opion from the first. This is a comfortable hotel with fairly nice rooms. The hotel is right next to the JR station but a 25 minute walk from the parks and temples. You can take bus #2 City Loop to the parks for 200Y cash from the bus stops nearby if you don't want to walk. There are several inexpensive places to eat near the hotel including a take out sushi deli in the first floor of the adjacent department/grocery store. The room was clean and modern. The room has free wired internet, a decent TV, but no safe. The room is reasonably large by Japanese standards. The public bath house is OK but nothing special and the workout room has limited hours. The breakfast buffet is excellent with many choices of Japanese and western foods. The staff is helpful and speak good English.

The Nikko Nara is conveniently located adjacent to the JR Nara Station (still walking distance from the main areas of interest if you don't mind a 20 minute stroll). Standard rooms are a bit basic, a bit worn out, with plastic bathrooms reminiscent of the so-called 'business hotels'. Good in-bathroom amenities, although the towels supply is too limited. Breakfast took place in a different floor/restaurant each day, and varied in quality from average to good.
However, service is one of the hotel's strong points: when faced with a small technical problem in our bathroom late the evening, we were given a new room (with an upgrade) within 20 minutes

Room Tip: Avoid standard Twin rooms

The location is right by the main train station which is ideal if you're visiting Nara with heavy bags.

The service was ok but not amazing. I do think I'd stay here again if I were to visit Nara again.

Stayed for a week here whilst attending a conference in the city. Staff were extremely helpful and able to cope with my distinct lack of Japanese. Breakfast was a buffet of salads, cereals, hot western style and japanese style food so something for everyone.

Room was clean and tidy and the air conditioning and room ioniser meant that whilst it was a smoking room it was impossible to smell it during my stay. Vending machines one each floor so you can grab a nice cold drink at any time without heading too far.

Right next to the JR Nara station and bus stations so you can get to Nara using either the train or limousine bus without any difficulty.

A few hotels in the area seem to double as big wedding venues and this place has 5 banqueting halls and other related amenities too. The conference dinner was held there so clearly even the local organisers think it is the best place in Nara!

Room Tip: Even the smallest single is good as long as you are prepared to only unpack things which need to han...

I stayed for 1 night in this hotel with my wife and baby son.
Hotel was very quiet and confortable. Rooms were decent size.
Service was excellent and French hotel manager was especially helpful.
We had a great meal in the hotel in the evening and were sorry to check out next morning.

One thing to bear in mind is that there are 2 train stations in Nara and most trains from Kyoto arrive in the other station Kintetsu (which is about 5 mins away in a cab from JR station).
Buses to the main tourist attractions are very convenient in Nara and they pass regularly outside the Nikko hotel.

I am very impressed by how quiet this hotel is even if it is just next to the train station! I mean you can NOT even hear the bus noise or noise from the hall way (since Japan people are very polite), definitely no sound from train (this is the part I don't understand). I sleep light, so I need a quiet room. But I can not believe this hotel's building technology is so advance. I literary can NOT hear anything from outside--except one day, there was a policy car sound. The Bathroom is small but has everything-nice deep tub, toilet with wash-let, complementary toiletries. The breakfast is especially nice--lots of choices including Japan food and western food. At Nara, I think this has to be the 2nd best hotel (first one maybe Nara Park Hotel). The bath in this hotel is free for the guest and very comfortable. The location of this hotel is fantastic--since I go to Kyoto or Osaka daily during my stay at this hotel. The transportation is just super convenient. The only problem is Service people do not speak English. AC in the room works great. Very quiet and room temp is just right.

Room Tip: My room is not facing the station. Maybe this is the reason it is very quiet.

This hotel is typical of the chain in Asia. The rooms were relatively large for Japan. Located right next to the JR train it is easy to get to. It is 1 to 1.5 miles from the parks though so it is a bit of a walk on a hot Japanese summer day. The city bus loop for 200Y is a good deal to save your energy. The breakfast at the hotel is very good with both Western and Japanese choices. In the summer there is a buffet for 3500Y on the hotel roof at night which I didn't discover til the day I left. The room had free wired internet, the TV only had pay movies and Japanese channels. The onsen is adequate but nothing special. There is a refrigerator in the room. Except for that running all night the rooms are quiet. The department store next door is a good place to get takeout food on the cheap.

Room Tip: The onsen is on the 6th floor if you want the convenience. Nicer views from higher up.
