“Depends where you going to book your room...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

I have seen a lots of discrepancy comments about rooms. In october I was there, and realized that`s depend where you book you reservation: at main building ( a little old furnitures) or at new building ( new furniture, nice view, larger room).

I booked a room via their English website which clearly stated "Breakfast included".
The reservation confirmation email gives very little details in comparison to other hotels.
So I sent an email asking for verification and the reply came that "Breakfast is not included"
and listed several locations within the hotel for breakfast with their prices.
I consider this misrepresentation and cancelled my stay.

Room Tip: Get verification of what you booked.

This was a great choice, service impeccable room clean and large. We had harbor view which was great. Absolutely no complaints. Breakfast buffet with a stunning view over the water. Hotel is old style but very charming and rooms seem to have been kept up to date. Nice place to come for a family trip.

This was our first time at this property. It was an excellent choice. It is very convenient to Chinatown which was one of the main goals of our trip. Very convenient for cruises of the bay and transit by water taxi to other parts of Yokohama. The restaurants were excellent. The breakfast buffet was outstanding. Highly recommend this property.

We stayed there early June prior to embarking on a cruise. Lovely hotel with old and new section well located on the waterfront with easy access to Chinatown and other attractions in the area.
Staff very welcoming and helpful.
We had room overlooking the bay providing great views. Facilities and service could not be faulted.
Rail station is walking distance if you feel like a day trip into Tokyo
We could have walked to Cruise terminal but with large luggage chose to taxi it at a cost of only $8 Australian. Incredible!

We stayed at the New Grand Hotel for a wedding, and it was a real treat. It's a beautiful old building, but the rooms are very modern, with gorgeous views of the harbour. The breakfasts are delicious - I wholeheartedly recommend the Japan-style breakfast, which is served in the old part of the building and beautifully presented. The rooms were spacious, with a nice bathroom area. It's pretty easy to get to by metro and the bright lights of Chinatown and the Motomachi shopping district (think Yokohama's Rodeo Drive). The hotel is famous for its Spaghetti Napolitan and Shrimp Doria, so it's worth sampling those while you're there. Also, check out the grand old section, with photographs of the hotel in the early 20th century. Really fascinating archives. A wonderful experience all around - would recommend it for anyone staying in Yokohama. Oh, and if you're in Yokohama - be sure to check out the Ramen Museum. You won't be sorry!

Room Tip: Try to get one with views of the harbour. It makes a huge difference.

A very enjoyable stay in the classic, main building.

-Staying in the classic, main building was a very nice treat.
-Rooms are stylish with a classic feel but NOT an old, old feeling as some may expect.
-Room faced harbor and Yamashita Park.
-Room was quiet (good sound proof windows) and very clean.
-Check out the 2nd floor (like a mezzanine) with the classic atmosphere - a wonderful place to see even if you don't stay at the hotel!
-The hotel has a romantic feeling to it - great for couples. It only has 2 floors out of 4 allocated to guest rooms, so the hotel (main building not tower) has a cozy atmosphere to it.
-The hotel is a great starting point for walking along the waterfront.
-Chose the 5pm check-in option and paid 9,000 yen a night, which was a very good price. I made the reservation through rakuten.com
-Service from reception and bag porter was very good.
-Motomachi-Chukagai subway station is only a 2-3 minute walk. Entrance #1 is next to the coffee shop Detour and just before you cross the road to the main gate to Chinatown. The train goes to Yokohama and Shibuya. Very convenient.

Excellent overall because of the experience, service, location, feel, price and satisfaction.

I will be staying again in the future.
