“Lovely Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

This hotel is in a beautiful location, right opposite a park on the waterfront at Yokohama. Rooms are spotlessly clean and spacious with a large king sized bed, which was comfortable. There was a mini fridge, tea making facilities, free internet (although not wi-fi), robes, safe, TV, humidifier and good air-conditioning. The bathroom was of a good size too providing all the essential toiletries and good shower pressure. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that the rooms are not really that soundproof as we could hear people next door and unfortunately we had a family upstairs so we could hear kids running around.

Hotel Monterey makes the most of its location next to Yokohama with beautiful views from the seafront bedrooms. The bedrooms themselves are a good size, very well equipped (toothbrushes and paste, hair brushes, razors and shaving cream as well as the usual toiletries) and spotlessly clean. They also provide pyjamas for your stay! Mini bar is not particularly well-equipped, even with basics like water and you also have to pay extra for coffee. Information provided in the room is mainly just in japanese, so figuring out things like channels on the TV or whether there is room service is a bit of a challenge.
Common areas of the hotel are a bit soulless and there is no bar as far as we could discern. It is worth having breakfast on 13th floor for the view alone.
Staff were polite, friendly and very helpful. However, english is limited and it was sometimes difficult to obtain information about getting to/from places in Yokohama.
There is a subway station round the corner so easy to travel into central Yokohama and beyond.Chinatown is just down the road and the main upmarket shopping street is about 10 minutes walk away. The Landmark Tower (tallest in Japan) and its huge shopping centre are a couple of stops on the subway.

Room Tip: Worth paying the small extra amount for a harbour view

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

My husband and I stayed at for a grand total of 5 nights. We had a non-smoking City View Twin corner room on the 11th and 12th floor.

The room was very spacious, with two semi-double beds, two chairs, and one small table. You can adjust the temp in the room (both AC and heat). The bathroom was all tile with a full size bathtub and long vanity. Compared to bathrooms we had at other hotels in Japan, this bathroom is a dream. The beds here are softer than other beds we had in Japan, so it felt more comfortable for us. There is a small refrigerator and in-room safe. The room is very clean except for some light staining on the chairs. We did not have any issues with noise.

The front desk is very helpful and they speak English very well. The hotel is a very short walk from the subway, but it isn't in a central location so anytime you want to go anywhere, you have to take the subway to Yokohama train station. Get the 450 yen all day subway pass for the Minato-Mirai line so you can make as many excursions as you want. It's only 50 yen more than paying round trip to Yokohama station.

It would be nice to have WiFi access in the hotel itself, but we made do with the McDonald's down the street. The closest coin-laundry facility is in Chinatown-- not terribly convenient. Breakfast is pricey at 2300 yen, so we bought breads and yogurt at Daiei outside of Yokohama station or at the FamilyMart down the street every night before heading back to the hotel.

It's in a beautiful location next to Yamashita Park and a really enjoyable stay. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: City view rooms are quieter (they don't face the street). Corner rooms are larger.

Stayed here after two weeks travelling round Japan. This is a typical business hotel clean and spacious rooms.

No wifi which is quite strange and also the breakfasts were over 2000 Yen.
Great views from top floor restaurant but seemed quite stuffy so did not go in.

Lots of mysterious noises in the night in the room from next door so limited sleep.

Good location close to metro, china town and harbour.

Would recommend but prob could find better business hotel type for the price.

The location set in front of a public park which faced the Yokohama waterfront near the ferry terminal is absolutely beautiful. Located within walking distance from Chinatown, it is also a few mins walk from the Metro station.

Very spacious well appointed room ( by Japanese standard) , which is clean and functional.
Friendly and helpful staff who are competent with the English language.

Good value for money.

Room Tip: Unfortunately I booked late , during the Public holiday peroid, hence could not get a room facing th...

We booked quite well in advance and obtained a good rate for our room. We were agreeably suprised at the size of the room - the largest we have experienced in Japan. It was very pleasant: a large, quite luxurious bathroom and good furnishings throughout. The air conditioning worked well - and there was the usual water heater. It's in a good location - about five minutes walk from the subway station, on a main bus route and the sea is just across the road. We opted for a city, rather than a sea, view - as that was cheaper. The breakfast seemed very expensive, so we ate out. There is Chinatown on the doorstep and a Family Mart nearby for provisions. Best aspect: value and location and size of room. Worst aspect: none - but for character, rather than a standard hotel room - go elsewhere. We had stayed in a variety of guesthouses, ryokan and hotels on our trip and we really enjoyed a few nights of space and comfort!

We got a cheap room off the internet, and it was great! The room was big, and we were able to adjust the temperature which was great! Very convenient location between two subway stations, and 5 min walk from Chinatown. The staff were able to help me with forwarding luggage to Tokyo.
