“Very Nice Museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2014

If you enjoy learning about another culture's history, specifically their shipping history, this is the place! A very nice museum to learn and easily engage about shipping, types of trade and the Japanese history. Museum is very interactive and fun as well. Perfect for anyone with intellectual curiosity!

“quite old fashioned”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

we were delighted to see an exhibition of ship models carefully crafted by a group of local enthusiasts. Otherwise the history of the port was presented not very inspiring in a less interactive manner. Children were entertained by volunteers showing paper-craft making so it was an interesting visit. Probably on a day with a less perfect weather we would have appreciated being indoors.

“Must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2012 via mobile

We went onto the ship beside the museum first - Nippon Maru - then into the museum itself. Both were fabulous. The ship had both English and Japanese signs, easy to follow, and very interesting. Both the outside and inside of the ship were on the route. Also a crew member from the ship's sailing days was there and he was very interesting to talk to. When we got into the museum, a retired gentleman sought us out and gave us a personal tour in English - also very interesting. A wonderful way to spend the morning of a rather cold and rainy day.

“Wonderful view of the Yokohama Port.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2012

The museum itself was a bit of a disappointment, it was just a brief history of the port with a bunch of scale models of the port over the years.

The museum itself was a bit of a disappointment, it is the history of the port with a bunch of scale models of the port over the years. I probably would've enjoyed it much more if I knew Japanese. However, the museum is on the 20th floor and right on top of the port, its really quite a site to see. If you're planning on visiting miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation) you should take 30min or so and make a visit. Getting there: Just walk in the building and take the elevator to the 20th floor. I had a bit of trouble finding it because no signs are in english. Price: 200 yen.
