“GREAT LOCATION, GREAT PRICE, POOR AIRCONDITIONING”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

I found the Mercure in Narita itself to be far better and also cheaper than the TOBU NARITA AIRPORT HOTEL, when they did their regular promotions. The Mercure has a free airport shuttle and is in an excellent spot in Narita itself. Rooms were also good but aircon was poor - it is central airconditioning switched down in the rooms at night automatically, so it can be very hot, and you have to open the window. Theres a swimming pool but its about $10 a day for guests to use it! checkin officially was 2pm but they let me checkin early. I stayed at The Tobu airport hotel on the trip out for 1 night, and at the Mercure for 1 night on the return. Mercure was far more flexible, professional and friendly overall. The only problem was the setting for the airconditioning at night (I guess as there are power saving measures in place in Japan at the moment) This hotel was far more modern than the Tobu hotel aswell, but was a little further from the airport.

Location
Very good and convenient location for being close to NRT airport. Although close to airport doesn't seem like it as its quite quiet city (no air traffic noise) and not your typical airport city as its quite cosy and picturesque with small streets everywhere with bars and restaurants. There is a free coach that goes back and forth to the hotel from airport, stopping at both terminals once to twice an hour different times of the day. The hotel is right in the centre of Narita, so bars, restaurants, shops and even the famous temple is within walking distance from hotel.
Room
The room was presented very well with pyjamas, slippers and two pillows on the double bed. It is clean and comfortable mattress. Lighting is adequate and the alarm clock has the ability to turn the main light off as well as control the AC unit. There is a small desk and chair which is good if you need to work on laptop (however the hotel has only cable-no WIFI and charges which means if you have a IPAD your stuffed to get on to the internet). The bathroom was clean with a good working digital toilet, clean bath and shower and adequate amenities of toothpaste, toothbrush and shaving kit. The TV has a good amount of Japanese channels but only one english option which is the BBC news 24. There is a option to purchase video but its just what is on the screen and non interactive (Shawshank redemptions and two adult channels) which for 1000yen was not worth it but you can preview for like 5 minutes. The view of the window was off Narita and overall was basic but comfortable room with the location being the best part.
Facilities
The hotel has a bar, a coffee-shop (which has a computer with access to internet again chargeable for every 15 minutes) and a restaurant where breakfast commences. There are two building in which the other apparently has a swimming pool and fitness centre but did not see. Breakfast in the morning is pretty good, with a decent selection of buffet food. The bread is very fresh and soft. There is alot of japanese options but for westerners there is scrambled egg, sausages and omelet.
Staff
Very hospitable and polite, helpful. Check-in and check-out very efficient and smooth. Coach to airport was full during check-out so they kindly organised a taxi which was free.

Overall fairly comfortable stay for one night and Narita is worth exploring, the temple is about a 15 minutes walk and you will need about an hour there because it is very impressive and idyllic. Showing beautiful japanese gardens and old historical temple buildings. There are also decent small bars and restaurants everywhere which appears to have lots of air crews hanging out. If you wish to go Tokyo, the train stations is about a 2 minute walk and Tokyo take 1hr to 1.5hrs to get to.
ADVICE for international travellers. If you need to get cash out from an ATM and do not have a JAPAN card then get it out at airport or Aeon Mall (15minutes drive away). No cash machine in Narita takes international cards and does not have english translation function on them.

We had 2 nights here, arriving late in the afternoon to Narita Airport where there was a free shuttle leaving approx every 20 minutes to the Hotel. The staff did not speak a lot of English but were still very helpful. Buffet Breakfast was included and had a good selection of food - This hotel is amongst lots of restaurants so we enjoyed the wander at night to find somewhere to eat for dinner. It is also extremely close to the 2 train stations and around the corner from the bus stop too so we found this a great advantage.
We had 3 rooms and were pleased to get them alongside one another seeing one of the rooms was booked at the last minute. Rooms were fairly basic but clean. Didnt work out the Air Conditioning until the second night as couldnt find it so it wasnt the best night sleep- however we perhaps should have searched more! Only disadvantage was to get to the rooms you had to take two elevators to get to them. Would stay at this hotel again no problem

I booked 2 standard double rooms to accommodate the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 little ones). We split 1 adult 1 child per room but used one of the two rooms as our base where we left majority of our luggage. Unfortunately our rooms were not interconnecting however we were 2 doors apart. There was not an interconnecting option available for our stay after asking at reception. We took the hotel’s shuttle bus from the airport (free) & were glad to arrive after a long flight from Europe. We used the laundry facilities at a charge. I found the staff at reception so helpful to each question we had. With the two children we decided to remain at the hotel & dine in. The breakfast was great we found options for us & the children, the dinner we again had no problems with ordering something for each of us. We liked the convenience of having a little shop doors away to buy some basic items for the room like fresh fruit & drinks. There is a McDonalds just before the hotel and also the bus & train station. I took a trip to the AEON mall (on public transport with cost) & it was certainly worth the trip! A very large supermarket is there, many shops of clothes, shoes, home wares & also eateries. For us it was a good layover hotel, we would have preferred an interconnecting room for our own personal needs but it was a good clean good priced option for 1 night between flights.

If you're staying in Narita, this is one of the better options. I've stayed in a couple other hotels around Narita before, and they are usually in the middle of nowhere. This hotel however is right in between the 2 trains stations, with many shops around the area.

There is also a few convenience stores, and a 24hrs McDonalds just within a minute's walk from the hotel. The train stations are also just 2 minutes away! We can actually see the train tracks from our hotel room.

The hotel provides a free shuttle service to the airport but to go to Aeon you will need to use the public shuttle service which cost 200yen per trip. The shuttle bus stop is just around the corner from the hotel.

The internet is unfortunately chargeable, 500yen for 24hrs. There is a self-service laundry room which charges a reasonable price.

The room is small, but normal for a Japanese hotel. The bathroom has a pretty low ceiling, especially when taking a shower in the bathtub. Taller people might have trouble when taking a shower. Our bathroom has a basic bidet toilet.

The hotel is definitely feeling the years, but for the location and convenience I don't mind staying there again.

Airport shuttle bus in the evening only travels every hour. Hotel very old and basic. Location handy for train connections.Had a chicken dish in the Japanese restaurant which was barely eatable.

What a great little hotel! Just minutes from the airport and right in the middle of Narita. Its convenient and great value for money. Yes it is small but normal for Japan and very nicely fitted out. The stations are both less than 100m away and Narita is a great stop over in my opinion. The nearby temple is wonderful and its gardens superb. I would definitely stay there again though a tad far for a daily commute to Tokyo.
