Finding the hotel: When you go through the ticket gates at Hakodate station turn right and go through that right exit (main exit is straight ahead to the bus station, but hotel is on the left). You will then see like two blocks away a high rise building with blue Japanese signs at the top. The first sign is the same like the first sign of Tokyo. This is the the Toyoko inn. When you go there you pass along a road with fish restaurants and little shops left and right. The Hotel entrace will have English signs.
Stayed alone one night in room type B. The toyoko inn budget hotels are found all across Japan. This one comes with all the usuall featues: Close to the station, small but very efficient room, free internet, including laptops in the lobby, free breakfast (mainly japanese rise balls, bread and jam, orange juice, coffee, tea, soup), low price.
The room has also a humidifier, japanese kettle with green and plum tea, Japanese pyjama, storage under the bed ("high clearance"), bathroom amenities. The room is very small, so is the bathroom, but OK for one person due to good design. Room has air conditioning. A very few hangers. During the day there is a market between the station and the hotel.
My two problems: 1. There was a quartz clock at the wall that ticked quite noisy. 2. There is no lugguage storage room - they only offered to deposit the lugguage in the corner in the lobby after check-out. In Japan, lugguage storage is normally well organized.
I would still stay there again - just great value to stay the night .
