“Yuck, oh yuck...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

We were driving for hours through the night from Boston home to Toronto. We just needed a few hours sleep. When we entered the hallways to go to our room the stale smell of cigarettes was overwhelming. Walking along the hallway many rooms had towels placed down at the bottom of their doors, obviously to keep the smell of whatever they were doing in the room....we should have run then.
When we arrived in the room, which was severely outdated, we lifted the mattress (like all big city dwellers, to check for dirt and bed bugs).
Between the mattress and the box spring were a lighter, a quarter, a bottle of visine and a beer bottle cap. The mattress was really filthy and stained. We didn't bother to check for bugs, we just left.
I can't describe the stench of this hotel, I was nauseous for hours after leaving. It is disgusting.
I agree with Michael S, it would be better to be eaten by Mountain lions or Mountain men.

A recent overnight stay at this hotel will forever be known as the time we should have kept driving or slept in the van. This place was so outdated and run down that I felt like we were back in the crummy parts of the 70's. The worst thing by far was the smell. I mean this place smelled!! It smelled like B.O on a fat sweaty guy cooking under a heat lamp. Rotting fish would find this smell offensive. I will say the night manager was nice, although a bit lazy. The day manager can be found outside smoking a fatty. The breakfast room was covered with creepy space men that make you feel you're being watched. There wasn't even butter for my toast! However the most out of place room was the ballroom for weddings. Why someone would get married here I have no idea. The bathrooms for this place were absolute rubbish! There was no attempt to get it in the toilet. Someone probably just went against the wall of the stall! Or that's what it looked like. If you find yourself in Amsterdam with little gas and a need for bed, and you see this place keep going! It would be better to get lost in the woods and killed by mountain lions or the mountain man than to stay there!

We booked this hotel expecting very little due to the reviews. The room itself was much cleaner than we expected. Very outdated, though. The shower sprayed all over. The ice machine did not work. After a rain, there was a lake in the parking lot. The main areas of the hotel were very dirty. There were also bad smells, except our room. The bed was not very comfortable. The sheets were very rough as were the towels, which were also thin.
The electronic lock for the door, would only open intermittently. It was recoded twice, after which the desk attendance said it probably needed a new battery. They did not however, replace the battery, so getting in the room was hit or miss.
The staff was extremely nice and helpful.
Our online booking cost $65.00, but booking through the hotel woud have been around $80.00.
They really need to either update or knock this place down.
When I couldn't get into the room the first time, I took the elevator by our room, 328. I got off at the first floor. I had to walk down the hall to get to the lobby. I felt like I was in an abandoned tenement. The floor felt like you could fall through at any minute and the wallpaper was falling off the walls. It was very dark. I would suggest you only use the front elevator.

Room Tip: Did not use the pool or exercise room if there are ones.

I've stayed here quite a few times on my way out and back to a car gathering in OH every June but I think this year will be the last time. The last time I was on the 4th or 5th floor and it stunk of cigarette smoke, was hot and very dingy. Every other time I or we, were on a lower floor. This time we were on the third floor and half the floor's hallway stunk of cigarette smoke, but luckily our room was beyond the door splitting the hallway, so our end wasn't as bad. We are a family of three(with three year old) and prefer to get a king and cot or sofabed, but the clerk told my wife that the fourth floor(where a majority of the kings are) was booked. My wife is pretty observant and saw the note taped to his counter for the clerks that said to tell people the 4th floor was booked because the were having some electrical issues with the ACs. You know what, don't lie to us, just tell us the truth. If it weren't for being on the road for 12 hours, we would have gone elsewhere. Odd thing-when we pulled in, there were four other cars in the lot. Apparently word is out that this place sucks. In the past this place had quite a few cars in the lot. No more! Have never used pool or fitness center, so I will rate as average.

Room Tip: Yes, go elsewhere. There's a Super 8 up near the highway-try that.

If you are hiking or biking the Erie Canal towpath, this is a great place to stay, and you won't have to climb the big hill. The motel is far from new, but recently redecorated rooms are clean and comfortable, and roomy enough to take your bicycles. Reasonably priced - we paid under $70 for our double. The staff is uber friendly and helpful. The on-site restaurant closed sooner than advertized, but we were directed to a terrific sports bar and grill around the corner. There's also an excellent diner nearby where we fueled up with a delicious stick-to-your-ribs breakfast.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor are very nice.

12 of us in the area to visit family. Clean and spacious room overlooking downtown streets. Microwave and small refrigerator in room were appreciated. Front desk staff very friendly.
Plenty of parking outside the hotel. Yes, it's dated but the room was fine. Shower is low on the wall as another reviewer stated so no surprises there. (Water pressure and temperature were excellent.) The hotel is updating and renovating rooms now. We did not have any problems during our stay. Good value.

Rooms are quite outdated. Beds are hard and uncomfortable. Shower heads are very low In Height (only came to my neck). The walls are fairly thin.. you can hear nearby doors shutting and everyone in the hallway. Hearing the trains go by at night was also very annoying.

I'm very sorry that you were unsatisfied with your stay here. We strive to make these rooms as clean as possible and are aware that our property needs updating. Our rooms may be outdated but are very clean and inspected on a daily basis. We do the best we can here and are looking forward to a better future with a new company.
