“Great Value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013 via mobile

We travelled to Takayama as our rendezvouz point to visit world heritage shirakawa-go.

Most of the hotels were full perhaps because a lot of skier/domestic tourist that visit this place during wintry season on weekends.

We were fortunate to get the rooms.

Although the room, bathroom is not as big, and the bed is not as comfortable as another hotel that we usually stayed in the area (BW), the service is excellent and the location is just a step away from the JR station.

We booked this hotel though Booking.com for 8,400Yen. Arriving at 11 pm by bus from Osaka, it was convenient to walk across the street from the bus station to the hotel with our luggage. There was no big sign or name on the hotel seen from afar hence we asked a local to point it our to us. There is a 24H Family Mart convenience stall which sells a variety of instant noodles which was useful as all restaurants were closed at that late hour. The kettle in the room was useful to make some green tea and breakfast the next day. The hotel room is small and dusty. I had a dust allergy . We were not able to open our luggage inside the room. Just use the yukata robes provided. Bathroom is small, best if you are petite. Shower gel, shampoo and toothbrush kits are provided. Ask for the LAN cable so you could connect to the internet in the room. We left early the next morning to catch the 740 am bus to Kamikochi via Hirayu Onsen. The hotel is walking distance to town centre. The staff could speak basic English.

was placed here by the travel rep as was so close to the train line. but wouldn't recommend as just around the corner and down the street much better quality hotels. english not strong for us travellers made a little hard trying to ask things. No wifi in rooms, really this is an expectation these days! they did have a paid thing set up in the lobby. we found a great family restaurant around the corner that had free wifi while we ate, perfect! single room was teeny and the bathroom, to get into the bath/shower you had to run and high jump into and when there is a sign that asks you to keep the door closed as to have open when shower sets off the smoke alarm, you know it is small! and quite mouldy and smelly.the restaurant ok had breakfast there as was part of our stay, interesting combo of everything! could do better!

Room Tip: go to another hotel!

Just had 2 nights I. This hotel. Although, centrally located it was disappointing in A few areas, not only no WiFi but you had to pay for Internet access. Breakfast Ok but would probably find better on street. Rooms small but bathrooms like an airplane toilet! Would not recommend for elderly or people with bad knees, like me, for climbing in and out of bath to have shower, very deep. Could not get a second key to room (in case we went out separately!). Lovely city thou. Like all of Japan so incredibly clean.

The hotel is situated on your rightt hand, across the street when you exit Takayama JR station. It reminded us of the Best Western hotels. The single room is spacey compared to double rooms I have seen in other hotels. It has a cool escalator from street level to the second floor where the restaurant and lobby are situated. Lobby personnel did not speak much English, but we managed to get the info we needed (directions to ATM and city center). They have a convenient city map available. It is a ten minute walk to the city center, where there a plenty good restaurants.
The bed is quite big but hard, and strangely there were two pillows, bathrobes, slippers, towel sets which makes me think that these rooms are sometimes booked as doubles. It would be quite small for two people, there would not be enough space for suitcases. TV does not have English spoken channels. The bathroom is small but clean. It has a shower in the bathtub, and all amenities are present: shampoo, conditioner, bathfoam, shaving knife and foam, comb, toothbrush and paste etc.
We had breakfast once. For 1250 Yen you can choose a set menu, western or Japanese. The western breakfast contained 2 slices of bread, one baked egg, butter, jam, juice, tea or coffee, water and some yogurt. We felt that breakfast was mediocre so we bought our breakfast at a nearby bakery the next day.
Overall a comfortable hotel, convenient location, however not very stylish

Rooms are small but still acceptable....its right opposite the JR station...and the price is excellent...I paid just over $70 for a night...

WiFi doesn't work and the LAN cable is extremely small so one has to sit on the table to surf!

There is no AC which might be crucial in summer months!

Location is excellent, just opposite Takayama JR Station, surrounded by shops and restaurants. Close to one convenient store and just within walking distance to the old town and other historical sites. But guest rooms are tiny and hotel has very limited twin rooms. My husband and I had to stay in 2 Single Rooms. But overall is ok.
