“Great option for Takayama”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

We really enjoyed staying here. The room was a good size with comfortable layout and beds/sheets. The breakfast was really good with some Western options too. The hotel is modern and new and has a decent onsen on the top floor. Would stay here again if we came to Takayama.

Takayama is an awesome city and one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Walking during sunset towards Sakurayama Hachiman-gu temple was really cool. The downtown area (5 min walk from hotel) is beautiful but just be mindful that many businesses and restaurants close around 5-6pm. We loved eating at Suzuya (really fun experience and best miso paste!) and the cute Red Hill Pub was lots of fun too! Make sure you get out to Kamikochi too - stunning views and the easy bus ride there has some beautiful scenery. Just ask for directions / times at the train station tourist office. Also, the hotels in Takayama don't have WiFi but if you stand next to the tourist info desk across from the train station you can get their WiFi for free.

Decided on this place last minute and knew we could have had a more authentic experience in Takayama but wanted to make sure that we were close to the station. Literally a 5 minute walk from the station, you can see this hotel as you pull in. We were quickly and efficiently checked in and given help to find somewhere to rent bikes so that we could explore Takayama easily. The room was small but we literally only slept in there and the bed was OK and we slept well. We did not use the bathroom (apart the cool modern toilet!) as we made use of the top floor onsen, which is definitely this hotel's best asset. Both indoor and outdoor onsen with great views and both communal showers and ones is a small booth if you need more privacy. Really amazing and quite a surprise in what a business hotel!! Friendly and helpful staff (help us understand where to get the bus to go to Kamikochi from) as well even though they had limited english.

My double room was really tiny and with the bed agains the wall so I didn't enjoy my stay there. The rest of the hotel was nice and the spa on the top floor was a nice experience. The staff at reception were kind and helpful.

Room Tip: Make sure your bed is not against the wall

The location of this modern hotel is 5 walking mins from the station and 10 mins to the heart of the old downtown.
Rooms were generous by Japanese standards, and mattresses were hard by Western standards. We asked for an extra pillow each and they were as hard as the mattress. TV did not have any English speaking channels but that's not a big deal. There is a smoking room in the foyer, excellent Asian buffet breakfasts and fantastic onsens on the 9th floor (men and women are segrated). The staff were super friendly without being over the top, and most eager to help with any query.
All in all, it gets my vote.

For the travelers, you should recognize that this is business hotel. So the room will not big. The design was so simple and functional. Comfort bed and clean. Compare with another business hotel, the room is even bigger than others. Design of hotel is modern and new. I can say best business hotel in takayama.

Also there is a big onsen on the rooftop, both indoor and open-air. Especially open air bath made me feel so comfortable in spring times.

Location is not far from train station, 5 minutes walk and can walk from hotel to travel spot such as morning market or sanmachi street.

Highly recommend!

Facilities in this place are new, and clean. Room is spacious, with a nice view, pyjamas are comfortable. Best of all, this place has onsen, both indoor and outdoor. Location is good, it's near to the most of the attractions in Takayama. Good value for money.

We stayed for 2 nights and the location was important for us and didn't disappoint however the rooms are very very small. If you are out sightseeing every day its not a problem but its certainly not a room to spend any time in. The beds were hard but we found this everywhere in Japan and every inch of space is maximised, the bathroom is the capsule design.
Staff were very helpful and so pleasant but it would have been helpful to have some of the information in reception about restaurants etc in English. Note there is no wifi in the hotel.
Didn't use the Onsen but for those of you unfamiliar with Japanese spa etiquette there was information in English.
Takayama is a lovely place and this hotel is in a great spot for exploring, its just a few minutes walk from the train station but if space is important to you I would advise upgrading to a larger room.

Room Tip: Look at upgrading if you need space
