“Lovely service, close to centre”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2013

Nice family run hotel that offers a traditional Japanese breakfast (with beef, so advise reception if you have specific dietary requirements). Rooms are homely and randomly decorated (not a bad thing), with AC and come with a hot water jug and kettle. Lavatories are shared and sinks and hairdryers are in a communal area. Shower is shared and there’s no private area. Hotel is clean and staff are attentive.

A nice touch was that all visitors are invited to leave messages about their home towns/country (which are filed for anyone to read). The hotel itself is up a small incline so those slightly older or with lots of luggage may find it a drag (staff will help however!). We were there for night only, so it was ideal for a quick stopover. Its roughly a 15-20 minute walk (with luggage) from the JR train station across town. The town itself is walkable, and there are many restaurants to choose from. Its less than a 5 minute walk into the centre.

Straight up this 'hotel' is closer to a hostel. There are shared bathrooms, with communal showers. There is no hanging space in the rooms, other than three coat-hangers on hooks on the wall. The beds are very uncomfortable, the pillows are like bags of cement. The fridge in the room also didn't work. The hotel is quite noisy, from both outside traffic first thing in the morning, and from the other guests. For the price paid very disappointed.

That said, the location is very convenient and the staff are very friendly. The breakfast is traditional, but would not be to everyone's taste.

This hotel is quite homely and traditional, but is not as comfortable as some of the larger hotels in town. The bathrooms are communal, with the main shower area open planned where you have to squat to shower. The breakfasts are very traditional and might be confronting to the Western palate. The location is good, being within walking distance to many of the town's attractions, without being too close to the high traffic areas. The room amenities are modest. My fridge didn't work. On the plus side, the room came with some funky kimonos and slippers.

Room Tip: I would avoid rooms near the bathrooms as they would be noisy and would not smell very nice.

Very basic but clean and bright. Lovely owner very accommodating. Share toilets and bathroom with separate facilities for men and women, It was very quiet when we were there and did not encounter anyone in the showers on either day. They supplied Kimono dressing gowns which was great for getting to and from the bathroom. Unfortunately they do not cater for big feet but socks sufficed for getting around inside. The breakfast was traditional Japanese and was delicious and plentiful. The location is ideal for walking around the old town.

We stayed here for 2 nights in November. We arrived after dark and in the rain, so we took a taxi from the train station. Once we were aware of the hotel's location, walking to and from the train station would not be bad at all. The location was great. The onsen was nice and we had to share a bathroom as well, but never really ran into conflict with sharing. The Japanese breakfast was fantastic! Highly suggest it over the western breakfast. Our room was clean and tidy. We stayed in a Japanese-style room with futons. At first I was concerned that the futons were not thick enough, but it all seemed to work out ok since I slept really well. All in all, a really pleasant stay. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Been there in year 2007 actually. We really like this place and i was so happy making the right choice for three of us to experience real japanese lifestyes which you cant find it big hotels or those newly opened ryokan taken care by young staff. The family who operate this place by themselves were so nice. They hv kimono for guests to try on and we took tons of photoes. Dont worry the lady owner will help u get dressed and she will make you beautiful in those lovely kimono.
Onsen was also one of our highlight. Though its a shared onsen but you can manage time with other guests. Breakfast is very well cooked and we hv 2 different types during our 2 days. The only problem was that the the mattress been used for too long. Maybe they hv changed them now. Or you might try japanese style rooms.

Room Tip: We were all the third floor for 3 ppl. Its very convinient to go use the osen!

The owner here was so helpful and accommodating, we even got hot water bottles brought to our room at bedtime. The hotel is very clean with a nice onsen, in a good location, just a few minutes from the main old town. The Japanese breakfast was very nice. There is also a nice restaurant just over the road from the hotel.
