“Perfect Location, basic but nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2009

I chose this hotel when booking a place to stay for my parents because I am studying in Nagoya, and as a local I knew that it was in a very very convenient location in central Sakae. It is also a very reasonable price.

I should point out that I didnt actually stay here myself, but I dealt with the booking and staff on behalf of my parents and saw around the hotel. Everything was satisfactory, the staff were very helpful although they seemed to be very relieved to communicate in Japanese.

Free internet (pretty slow) in the lobby. The hotel is in the top half of the building and overlooks the TV tower and Oasis 21. There is a basic breakfast included (things like rice-balls coffee). Only complaint was the strong smell of smoke in the lift and in the corridors.

I would recommend this hotel simply for its location and value for money. It is just minutes away from the Central Park end of Sakae subway (a major subway station with VAST underground mall - tonnes of shops!) and above ground it is only a short walk from Sunshine Sakae (the ferris wheel) and the main street with all the izakayas and restaurants/nightlife. In the basement of the same bulding is a really fun bar which is open till 3am (one of the only ones in the whole of sakae - most drinking places are izakayas where you are expected to eat as well as drink, but at My Bar you can just drink.) But dont worry, the hotel is high up enough in the building so that noise isnt a problem.

This hotel is in front of the TV Tower in the heart of Nagoya. The surrounding area is the most active area so you can shop around , dine and booze near this hotel.
This hotel has the Internet connection by wireless LAN so it is convenient for business use.
The reasonable price includes breakfast, so I recommend this hotel for those who seek for good value.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2005

I stayed at the Hotel Econo Nagoya Sakae for eight days in May while covering the excellent AICHI Expo 2005 in Aichi, about a 30 minute train ride away from the site. I had a single room for an astounding $53. US per night including an excellent breakfast selection. The hotel, located across the street from the antiquated Nagoya TV Tower, is located on the fifth-through-ninth floors of a building that contains everything from four restaurants to a "gentleman's club". The elevator stops at the fifth floor lobby, where breakfast of egg sandwiches, rice and spinach cakes and beverages are provided in a grass refridgerator free each morning. Part of the fun is a tiny OJ cup that shows a robin with the caption "Birds Fling Delightly". Of course it should read "flying"! but it is part of the lost in translation inevitabilities that are classically Japanese. The staff is VERY limited in the English language. In fact, a cram course to learn the basics came in handy to say the least here, but the employees went out of their way to understand and make things smooth for this American. The single rooms consist of a small step-up bathroom cubicle with a toilet/bidet combo. a step down mini bathtub impossible for other a small child to sit in, and a showerhead that is attached to the sink. Excellent water pressure. The words of wisdom on the toothbrush and razor blades are priceless. The rest of the room was a simple single bed, 12 inch tv and view of a brick wall only eight inches away from the window, so if you tilted your head to either side you could get a glimpse of the street and the TV tower. When a daily wake up call is made on the phone, an automated woman responds with the cheerful word "Certainly!". How could you not love it? Inexpensive hotels are incredibly rare in Japan, but this Nagoya property, with a robe and slipper at the foot of the bed nightly, was very small and rather cramped but, as a novelty, was a terrific memory. Needs to be experienced at least once! 4 out of 5 stars
