“Value For Money Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We stayed in this hotel during our family trip to Nagoya in late January 2015. We had 3 rooms altogether- a twin and 2 semi-doubles. The semi-doubles were small but we managed while the twin room was really of good size. The rooms were clean and were made up everyday. It was nearing the end of winter then but we did need to have the heater on while we slept, letting fresh air in through the windows. We were able to sleep well throughout our stay.
It is located not too far from the subway. The airport bus stops at the Tokyu Nagoya from where you need to walk for 2 - 3 minutes only to get to this hotel.
We had paid an average of USD 50 for each room per night through Agoda which was really a bargain.

We booked this hotel and the prices was very reasonable so we had low expectations. Upon seeing our room, we were pleasantly surprised. Everything looked new. We loved the pillows! We had a triple room and the space was good. The bathroom was very basic. Checking in was a breeze. There are a handful of convenient stores and restaurants in the area. The subway is also a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Few attractions are a short walking distance from the hotel. Didn't try the breakfast buffet since it didn't come with our booking and we didn't really want to pay extra for it.

We booked our hotel through a Japanese website. Since we did, it included the breakfast buffet. We drove from our house in Kanagawa (easily a four hour drive) and arrived at the hotel. Like most hotels, when asked, they'll hold onto your luggage even though it's not yet time to check in. This hotel was no exception and graciously held onto our luggage while we went off to have lunch and do a bit of city exploration. This hotel is situated a few blocks from great restaurants, a mall, and next door to a Family Mart (a convenience store).

Check-in was very quick. We were present with our key, breakfast tokens and our parking slip to retrieve our car whenever we needed it. The accommodations were good. I say good only because we chose the double bed. *Note: See advice below about how to get a bigger room* The double bed room fulfilled our requirement for a place to sleep, shower, and relax, but we weren't left with little more space than that. There wasn't a closet and space was an issue even though it was just my wife and I.

My dislikes for my room was, as stated before, the size of the room, for one. Secondly, after our daily excursions in Nagoya and Kyoto, our legs were quite sore.. so when we had to go into the bathroom, you have to step up while a bit to get into a small cramped bathroom. I've stayed at many hotels in Japan and have been here for more than 15 years, but, in retrospect, I believe I should have paid the extra money and gotten a larger room even though it had twin beds. I'm not exactly sure if the bathroom would've been different, but at least we would've had more space to ourselves. Almost forgot, depending on when exactly you go, understand this... the hotel runs on central heating and A/C.. this being said.. the temperature controls only allows you to change the fan from OFF - L - M - H. So if it's one of those transitional seasons from hot to cold or cold to hot.. keep this in mind. You can't control the temperature of your room.

(This part is for the smokers... If you smoke, make sure you get a larger room. Ventilation wasn't that great and it kept the smoke smell in the room. Even with the air purifier running, it never really cleared out the smell and it kind of just hung in the air. I even considered going down to the Family Mart for Febreeze or some air freshners.)

I liked the fact that the room had wi-fi and a LAN port, if you needed it. It came with a mini-fridge, hot water pot, tea/coffee, light controls in the headboard, air purifier and television. The TV size didn't really matter because we weren't exactly there to just watch TV, but to explore what Japan had to offer.

The breakfast buffet was good, but the staff was even better. Food was delicious and constantly being replenished. The only thing I wanted (and it's my fault for not asking) was bigger glasses for juices. The glasses were like tall shot glasses. Great thing though was they had like eight or nine different juices to choose from. Oh yes, by the way, please try the homemade pudding... That was amazing! The bread was great.. I'm thinking it might've been baked there. I do have to say, the breakfast wasn't bad. It definitely beats having to wake up and go walking around the streets finding a place to eat breakfast.

Overall, I would suggest this hotel to others. It's cheap, located in a great location and has a great homemade pudding!

Room Tip: Twin bed rooms offer more space than double bed room. Go for the Twin bed rooms if you want space.

When you check in, there are forms that you have to fill out. It may take long depending on how fast you fill out the forms.

It was a good experience to check in at this hotel. I rented a pocket wifi and had asked for it to be delivered at the hotel before we arrived and completely forgot about it when we checked in but they gave it to me without asking.

There were a lot of places to eat if you don't want to eat at the restaurant of the hotel. There's also a family mart beside it. Internet was fast and good although you have to sign in every time you go back to the hotel. A lot of attractions nearby just a couple of blocks away.

Buffet is also good if you choose to eat there. You just have to add 1,200 yen to have breakfast there. There were a lot of good choices but it may be a little limited for some.

Having stayed in Nagoya fairly recently I chose the Mystays this time given it's Sakae location and reasonable room rate.

The hotel is a typical business hotel with all the usual conveniences that you would normally expect. I booked a deluxe room which was comfortable but not a great deal larger than their superior rooms, nonetheless it was cozy and décor was well maintained.

You can walk to Sakae underground station in about 10 minutes, and their are lots of cafes and restaurants within the proximity to the hotel. A cab from the JR station takes about 10 minutes and was around 1000 Yen. Note the their is an express way next to the hotel and therefore it can be noisy.

If you can get a rate under $100 AUD a night this place represents good value for money.

This is a standard business hotel--clean, small, efficient, and on the whole very, very good for the price. You will not go wrong with this MyStays. The breakfast is particularly nice, especially for the 1100 yen price. It's great to have the FamilyMart just downstairs.

There are some tradeoffs. As some other reviews have noted, this hotel is not subway adjacent -- it's actually about midway between two stations, which means about a 15 minute walk. Not insignificant if you have luggage. Moreover, it is noisy--there is significant street noise on either side of the building, and you can definitely hear the neighbors--talking, using the shower or, um, other... I am a relatively heavy sleeper, and I was glad I had a pair of earplugs.

So a bit of a tradeoff--but still I would happily stay there again.

Room Tip: Try to be away from the main road - marginally better.

Hotel is really of good facilities. However, its not really of walking distance frin the train station as it required sme walking from the station which is approximately of 15-20mins, and also not all staffs are fluent with English so you might have some difficulty to converse wother them unless you know japanese. Overall it's quite good for the special price paid during the so called promotion period since a night there without the promotion period is totally too expensive to stay.
