In my opinion, this is the best hotel in Japan. The perfect balance of business luxury, value, location, etc. A very smooth team of staff here, nicely appointed rooms, well kept, minutes from your Shinkansen, etc.

I love coming off the elevators and walking into the grandiose lobby. It makes me feel that I will have a good stay.

Marriott Associa is right in the heart of Nagoya with great transport links to the Airport - the main Nagoya train station is in the basement!

The rooms are a little small but well appointed - make sure you ask for a non-smoking room/floor - we Brits forget that other countries still allow smoking in hotels and restrauants!!!

Everything in the hotel is very, very expensive - Continental Breakfast in the restrauant Y2100 (£17!!)

Enjoy!

This is a beautiful hotel in the heart of the city, but I had to rate it a zero because I was discriminated against because I was not Japanese! I am a Marriott lifetime platinum card holder and have never seen blatant discrimination until tonight. I was in the concierge lounge about ready to take a seat next to the window for a spectacular view of the city from 36 floors uo. I was instantly told to move to a less desirable table. Immediately this "hostess" gave the table to a young Japanese couple. Not good. Please, Mr. hotel manager, save your excuses and just train your people in the ways of the world.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel, unless you are Japanese

This has been my fifth or sixth time at this hotel. I come back because I like the location (right on top of Nagoya JR and Meitetsu stations), which helps during stays. Rooms are reasonably well appointed for a 4-star level (though I think the hotel considers itself 5-star).

Weaknesses: (1) Noise from the train stations travels up, and for whatever reason, they built the hotel with single-pane windows. (2) The beds are very hard, too hard for my taste. (3) There is nobody there to help with the luggage until you have schlepped it to the 15th floor, where the check-in counter is. (4) Their pricing in general is per person, not per room; you may pay $200 for one person or $400 for two people occupying the same room. This used to be the approach in Japan but has become rare, and this hotel should try to catch up with the times as well.

Overall, a tad below 4 points. I would give 3.5 if that were possible.

Interior decor of the guest room - Contemporary lush design with hybrid Euro-Japan style of furniture to maximize the room space.
Interior decor of the lobby - Warmly inviting with marbles, polished tiles and clean carpets.
Exterior appearance - Highest tower (51 floors) in Nagoya
Outside view from the guest room - For rooms with the two last digits ending with "20", you get northwest view of Nagoya towards Nagoya castle. Excellent.
Room size - Approximately 35 square meters. Generously big for a hotel room in Japan.
Bed - Queen size, firm. Slept well.
Service - Professionally trained hotel staffs greet you with respect and care.
Location - Attached to Nagoya train station building. Convenient for shopping, restaurant and of course, train transportation.
Price value - Very good.
Extra amenities - Bathroom amenities are excellent! Large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body soap and body lotion. How many mirrors are there in the bathroom?

Room Tip: Try the rooms ending with "20" for Nagoya castle view, and extra space.

I stayed at the Nagoya Marriott Associa for a week on business. The hotel is amazingly huge and is in a super convenient location for shopping and catching just about any train you can imagine. The breakfast is extraordinary and what a cool view from the dining room. This can be a pricey place but A+ in location, facilities, service, and everything else!
