“Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

We recently spent 4 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and it's amenities. We were very pleasantly surprised having read mixed reviews on this hotel. The staff were very attentive and the facilities at the hotel were excellent. The beach and pool area were lovely with towel service and they provided chilled water which was a nice touch. We had a club room with an adjoining room both of which were of the highest quality. The club room had fantastic views across the Bay of Aqaba and the food was a lovely selection of small plates and nibbles. The staff in the club room were great, very helpful and attentive. It was a quiet time of year as it was during Ramadan but we really enjoyed this hotel and considered it to be well on a par with other Intercontinentals we have stayed in. We would definitely return.

Room Tip: A view across the Bay of Aqaba is lovely.

We travelled to Aqaba after a month working in Israel. The goal: a sprawling resort on the ocean that offered luxury accommodations and quiet areas to retreat to (from noisy children-laden pools - we knew that wouldn't happen in Eilat!). We definitely found that at the intercontinental, Aqaba. Indeed, I would give it a number one hotel in Aqaba rating...(we had the opportunity to check out the Kempenski hotel next door and while it was lovely and modern, the beach front, swimming pool and public areas were much more cramped -- no comparison...) Customer relations were excellent and anytime we had an issue (room, service or otherwise), they went out of their way to fix it! We were pleasantly surprised when Marina sent a bottle of lovely Jordanian wine to our room the first day. She was lovely and accommodating. Because we arrived during Ramadan, the hotel was quieter and offered different venues for dinner (lively music and a tent with wonderful fare). Thankfully, the holiday did not interrupt the flow of alcohol if you were so inclined. One's best bet if travelling without children is to get Club access (we have the Ambassador's membership). This way you can enjoy cocktails (for one hour...hahaha) -- a great prelude to dinner. If I was to change anything, it would be to extend the cocktail hour or at least have access to drinks in the lounge for a longer period of time.
The spa could have used some tender loving care. I wanted to get the Desert package but after seeing the spa rooms, I changed my mind. However, it wouldn't stop me from choosing this hotel again. No contest... !

Room Tip: We stayed on the top floor by the Club lounge... get a panoramic king room for the greatest comfort...

I stayed here for two nights, coming over from Eilat. The resort is beautiful and very reasonably priced for what you get: large, luxurious, well furnished room, nice terrace, huge bathroom with both a bathtub and large shower, nice beach and pool, and very well priced dinner buffet at only 17 Jordanian dollars. The breakfast, included in my rate, was superb. The food at the buffet was delicious.

The concierge was very helpful and planned a great day trip to Petra and Wadi Rum. The receptionists were courteous and professional. I especially liked how they give you both a towel and a cooler with two bottles of water at the pool. Aqaba itself was a nice surprise. Before checking out, I walked to the city center, and it is a pleasant walk along a tree-lined street and past resorts and archaeological excavations. There is a fortress and a small but interesting museum.

The only caveat and why I take off one star: The soundproofing between the door of the room and the hallway is atrocious. Because of the stone tiles both in the room and the hallway and the almost one inch gap between the door and the room, every sound in the hallway reverberates into the room. It was a problem the first night, with the noise of loud guests coming into the room at least until 11:30 or so. The second night was quieter. Until the hotel replaces the doors with soundproof ones, my only suggestion is to stay as far away from the elevators as possible, or forego the sea view room for a quieter side hallway.

Room Tip: Get a room as far away from the elevator as possible

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

I stayed at this resort from 4-6 July, 2013 and had 4 rooms for twelve members of my wife's family. I would have expected problems with this type of reservation but everything just went smoothly. Here is a review by category:

Check In/Out - We arrived in the morning and the front desk staff did everything possible to get us rooms as soon as possible. While we were waiting they allowed us to have pool towels to use the pool/beach and stored our luggage so it was just like we were checked in. The check out process was just as easy for all rooms and I commend the staff at the desk. One individual, Hala (can't remember her last name), deserves special recognition because she made the sometimes chaotic scene at the desk very manageable. I stay over two months a night around the world in hotels and Hala rates right up at the top of providing EXCELLENT service.

Rooms - Very nice and contained all amenities one would expect with an Intercontinental property. Views of the pool and Red Sea were stunning from the balcony. TV channels were plentiful and the bed was very, very comfortable. AC was quiet and effective.

Pool/Beach - Absolutely beautiful area. The pool is one depth (approx. 5 feet) with two areas that are around 2 feet deep for the little ones. Water was very clean and well maintained as my eyes didnt hurt at all after spending the whole day in the pool. The only complaint I have in this review is that there were not enough chaise lounges to accommodate the guests. Deck area was massive but there simply were not enough chairs/lounges. Beach area was private and very nice as well with ample shade and chairs. The changing area with showers was an added bonus for anyone wanting to stay late after check out. A nice feature where the large towels and your own personal cooler with bottles of water.

Restaurants: Ate at the Lebanese restaurant twice during the stay since the food was so good and surprisingly reasonably priced for a hotel. My compliments to the the staff at that restaurant. Shisha/Hookah was available throughout the property and was of good quality and good price. I didn't partake of the buffets but looked at them and they looked good. They had a BBQ night when we were there but we felt the 23JD price was just too much for how much we eat.

Location: 10 minutes to the airport via the complimentary hotel shuttle. Easy 15 minute walk to the downtown area that contains several shops, cafes, etc.

All in all...this hotel/resort is excellent and rarely do I say that I feel confident that anyone's stay would be enjoyable. For the Westerners - remember you are in the Middle East and things can appear a bit chaotic and unorganized in comparison but if this is understood I wouldn't expect any problems.

Thanks to all at the Intercontinental Aqaba for making the 12 of us feel welcome and able to enjoy 3 fantastic days. See you soon...

Room Tip: Any of the rooms that overlook the sea are stunning.
