I'm sorry you were unable to pay by credit card, this was a rare event, and I believe it's fair to say that usually we have no problem in this regard. We do accept both Visa and Mastercard but your advice is sound, the ATM's in Livingstone seem to dislike Mastercard.
It was a pleasure to give you a spare pillow for your camping trip - I don't think everyone would want one, so we have no problem revealing your unusual request. This part of your review made us laugh!
At current exchange rates an average starter, main course and dessert in our restaurant would amount to about US$14.90 - whilst not 'cheap' we don't feel this is expensive by international standards. That price also includes salads, vegetables, extra sauces, bread roll and butter as well as VAT (16.5%) and Service Charge (10%)! Cheaper options are available on our menu.
Thanks a lot for your kind, specific, amusing and constructive review.

Chanter's Lodge is an affordable, comfortable place to stay in Livingstone. It has a main building with a large lounge, bar and terrace, gardens and rooms both in the main building and arranged around the courtyard. It is located on a potholed road within convenient walking distance of the main street, behind high walls like most places in Livingstone.

The restaurant serves good food and I enjoyed the African dishes very much. There was also Western food available. It wasn't cheap, but it was tasty and filling, and the setting of tables on the terrace looking over the garden was pleasant.

The rooms were clean, spacious and adequate - there was aircon and a fridge, and a comfortable bed.

The main distinctive feature was the personal service offered by Richard Chanter and his staff. I made an unusual request that I thought would make my forthcoming camping trip more pleasant (I won't say what or everyone will ask) and expected to pay for it. There was no charge made.

I was unable to pay by credit card as Visa's facility was down at the time. (Do make sure you take Visa rather than Mastercard to Zambia as Mastercard will not work in ATMs.) However, I was able to pay using a variety of different currencies that I had in my wallet at the time.

My wife and i arrived at chanters lodge back in february having booked over the net so i thought , on arrival it appeared that my booking was lost in cyberspace, enter richard chanter who quickly found us a room. The purpose of my trip was to visit several key tourist hot spots, richard advised us of some great activities with trips to chobe national park in botswana arranged a driver, booked a hotel and a safari just what we went there for, he also talked me into taking a trip over the falls in a microlight , thank you richard a trip i'll never forget. The lodge , well it may be a bit tired but i was very happy , the food was just great with our host often giving us a bit of a helping hand with the ordering, richard also drove us not only to the falls but to town and to the airport.Warning richard is a mad english cricket fan perhaps the aussies will give the poms a lesson in how to play cricket in the upcoming ashes tour,if i ever return to livingstone chanters is my preferred lodge. wayne /maryanne dundas australia

We're sorry if we made a mistake with your reservation and also that you found the lodge 'a bit tired'. As you're not specific in the latter remark, it's hard for us to comment further. Thanks for your generally positive review and we'd be happy to welcome you back to Chanters again in the future.

After surfing the net and finding the only accommodation in Livingstone to be recommended by a certain site we contacted Richard (the owner) and so began the best holiday ever! All questions asked were instantly answered. All activities we asked about were given an honest appraisal by him and he gave recommendations if something else was better. In all, 9 activities were booked through Chanters Lodge and other activities were taken after arriving. We spent 10 wonderful days with our 'other family' at Chanters. We enjoyed meals every day in the restaurant (after enquiring about other places to eat we decided we had the best on site). Richard picks up and delivers you to the airport and if you need to go somewhere out of walking distance he will transport you there. He recommends Chris for the occasions when you may wish transport for a few hours or more - a wonderful young man! Nothing is too much for Richard and his staff! All advice (even from 'Chanters' Girls' on what traditional meals eat) is given with such charm and friendliness.
The most friendly and hospitable people and place anyone could want. Thanks again to Richard and staff - in particular Susie, Monica, Annastasia, Alice and Chris (although not actually staff, one of the wonderful group)

Coming from some other land, these Guests really needed a home away from home. Thanks so much for a fabulous review - Susie, Monica, Alice and Anny were thrilled to be mentioned by name, so too Chris. We were delighted you had such a good holiday and thanks again for taking the time to post your review.

My husband and I booked to stay in Chanters Lodge after reading the great reviews on Trip Advisor. We had a lovely stay and Richard the owner was a fantastic host. He was very knowledgable on what were the best activities in the area and booked them for us, regularly dropped us down at various spots in Livingstone and the Falls, including our airport transfers. The room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely hot shower (and bath too). The food was delicious and the staff very friendly and helpful. The setting was very relaxing and tranquil.......definitely a little piece of paradise.
