“Amazing location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

The hotel is at a fantastic location. You can see zebras, antelopes and monkeys in the hotel compound. The Victoria falls is a two minute walk from the hotel. Although I advise that you choose your stay during the rainy season because the falls will be the most amazing thing you shall ever see

We stayed two nights at the Zambezi Sun and found the location to be excellent - we could easily walk to the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and also walked to the Zimbabwe side of the falls (about a 30 minute walk).

However, service was mixed - we had excellent waiter service for lunch at the pool restaurant and dinner at Squires, but one morning at breakfast we were not served drinks until we asked someone, and not until we had finished our meal. Additionally, check-in was rather hectic and the concierge at the front desk was extremely unfriendly - both of these being our first experiences at the hotel left a rather sour taste in our mouth from the start.

We did enjoy a very nice meal at the restaurant at the Royal Livingstone Hotel - and would recommend trying this restaurant if you are looking for an upscale meal.

Rooms are basic, a little rough around the edges but ok. Buffet restaurant was over priced, we paid £30 pp for a meal. Other than that great location, a stone throw from the falls. The animals on the property were the best thing about the hotel. The sister hotel Royal Livingstone seems much more up market.

I stayed at the Zambezi Sun Hotel for two nights with my wife and a friend in early August 2013. The hotel offers good value for money with clean, well equipped rooms and all the facilities you would expect. It is true that zebra, impala and giraffe come into the hotel gardens - but watch out as there is also a crocodile in residence by the lake! The massive advantage of this hotel however without doubt is the location - just a few minutes walk and you are right by Victoria Falls with free entry. I would be happy to recommend this hotel. A bit of fantasy architecture, colourful amidst the stark dry shrub of the surrounding Mosi-Oa-Tunya National game park. The hotel spreads out in a semi circular wing with long corridors opening into several rooms with views of the garden, pool and recreation area. Very large, comfy beds in a packed room, good sized bathroom with separate shower area. Nice amenities.
Plenty of game wandering through the grounds, especially Zebras,Deer and the occasional Elephant! The great thing about this place is the 5 min walk from your room to the magnificient views of the Victoria Falls! The entry gates open early morning until 6 PM and I highly recommend the sunrise and sunset walks along the rim. The evenings here are pleasant with local bands and
the buffet at the Squires restaurant is very sumptous as is their breakfast spread. The cats in the restaurant area especially at dinner time are very annoying, as they try to look around the tables for leftovers and climb onto the just vacated tables!
The travel desk efficiently books all your tours in the area-be sure to visit Livingstone island, truly a unique and exhilarating experience! Plenty for kids to do, a great pool area and activity center.
The sister property The Royal Livingstone is a 2 min shuttle ride, a "must do" for a sundowner on the deck watching the Zambezi as it rushes to the Falls!

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the restaurant and pool area are convenient to walk thru several times a day!

Six of us spent six nights at the Zambezi Sun and enjoyed everything about the resort except the price of the evening buffet in the main restaurant ($48/person). Way too expensive. Breakfast is included in the room rate and the lunches were very reasonably priced. Both were very good. We ate most of our evening meals in town and would highly recommend Olga's for Italian, Ocean Baskets for seafood, and the Golden Leaf for a variety of selections. Great food at reasonable prices.

There is no charge for visiting Victoria Falls if you stay at the Sun. It is just a short walk from your room. The falls are beautiful. Each day provides a different experience. One day you have mist, the next rainbows, and the next you get soaked. Although August is the dry season and the falls were not at full capacity they offer fantastic photo opportunities.

There are zebras, impala, monkeys, baboons, and even an occasional giraffe that wander around the resort. Just keep your doors closed at all times. The monkeys and baboons will walk right in and help themselves to whatever they want as well as make a mess of your room. There are several attendants that walk the grounds with slingshots to keep the creatures away from the rooms, but it doesn't always work. One afternoon, one of the attendants offered to show my wife and I the area where the resort feeds the wildlife. It was about a 20 minute walk back in the woods, but boy was it worth the time. We saw a half dozen giraffes and a dozen zebras up close. We got some great photo shots with the animals within five or six feet behind us.

On the ride to town you will encounter a large group of elephants that cross the highway each day for food. More photo opportunities.

The room at the Zambezi Sun was a little small and lacked adequate lighting, but it was clean and nicely decorated in local colors. If we ever return to Livingstone we would definitely stay at the Zambezi Sun. Great location, very clean, and wonderful people that try hard to make you happy. What more could you ask for?

Room Tip: You might want to ask for a king bed on arrival if that is what you requested. We were all given...

As mentioned previously the location is absolutely wonderful. As a family of four we found the rooms adequate as we had two adjoining rooms. The bathrooms are good and beds comfortable, with much needed air conditioning. We ate at squires one night which was good, although the limited choice of ice cream as a dessert was surprising! The choice at breakfast was very impressive and we ate at the bar for lunch which was good. The young african dancers at the front of the hotel were wonderful and our two teenage sons are seriously thinking of joining them full time! Unfortunately after 30 minutes of arriving we had a major issue when a monkey attacked our 13 year old. Be aware he was on a sunbed with no food reading his kindle. Having said that the staff were really good ensuring that he was ok following it up the next day. The falls are without doubt the star of the show and you are very well placed to see them whenever you like. We also visited the Livingstone next door for afternoon tea - lovely!
