What an incredible adrenaline rush, to be sitting on a rock face right against Victoria Falls!
You sign a waiver and then get picked up by a small boat from the jetty of the Royal Livingstone Hotel (what a palace), which whisks you past hippos and zig zags you across to Livingstone Island. The Island is owned by Tongabezi resort, so you can`t do this on your own. After zero orientation (maybe a 5 minute safety briefing would make sense?), you swim a short distance across a bit of the river. This is really for effect as it isn't necessary to swim and there are safety ropes in place, so you can't get swept over. You then scramble across some rocks to Devil's Pool. Your guide takes you camera and in you go. The guide then extremely dangerously goes right to the edge of the falls and leans over and takes pictures with your camera, first of the falls and then of you in the pool. He keeps switching cameras til everyone has lots of pics. You can then take turns doing the "Superman" where you lie on the little rock shelf (maybe two feet wide) that separate you for a 1,000 foot plunge, while two of your new best friends hold your feet! After swearing to not do this, we all did. Don't forget to wave to the people in Zimbabwe across the gorge taking pictures of you!
After maybe 5-10 mins in the pool, you get out and walk around the top of the falls taking more pics. Then it's an unnecessary but delicious eggs benedict breakfast and back to Royal Livingstone. Thrill of a lifetime, totally awesome to get that close to the top of the falls - would do it again in an instant. Cost was $75 including breakfast. Highly recommend!
