“Hector is a gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2010

If you want luxury, the Royal Livingstone is the place to stay. If you want relaxed warm local hospitality at a very different price, then Green Tree is the place. Hector was constantly helpful in arranging our trip and giving advice on best excursions (our recs would be microlighting, bungee jumping - but take your shoes off - Livingstone Island, and elephant back riding) and organizing rides etc. We felt really well taken care of and Hector is a beautiful man.

After reading comments on tripadvisor, we booked two chalets. One for the girls and one for our selves.

We were looking accommodation with a pool for the girls and internet access for my husband to keep in touch with his business. Green Tree was perfect. Chalets have a fridge, TV, aircon and large bathroom with shower and mosquito nets. Rooms are cleaned each day, and staff are polite and hepful.

Breakfast is included and you can have meals there. Prices range from 35,000 - 75,000 kwatcha, and are good quality and great value.

The girls felt safe there and were happy to read and listen to music by the pool whist we went for a walk to town for an hour or so.

We stayed longer than planned here due to the good service and accommodation.

We would definately stay again. :)

We stayed at Green Tree Lodge twice on our recent trip to Zambia and Botswana. It has five comfortable chalets built around a pretty garden full of rabbits and guinea fowl. There is a pool and bar for guests only. It is an easy fifteen minute walk into town. The home cooking was delicious - try the nshima and bream. Owner Hector is a great host and knows the area really well. He helped us organise our time in Livingstone, suggested good local restaurants, and arranged a friendly cab driver. He is also full of great stories having worked all over Africa for the past 50 years, which made dinner much more interesting! All of the other staff were equally friendly and welcoming. Definitely the best place to stay in Livingstone and one of our favourite places we have stayed anywhere.

Stayed for two nights in August either side of an overland tour. Green Tree Lodge's rooms are very clean and comfortable and Hector, the proprieter was very hospitable and went above and beyond being helpful, even letting us sample crocodile on our first night!! The restaurant at the guest house was excellent and we really enjoyed our stay. Very safe and comfortable environment close to the town centre. Excellent value for money. Definitely stay there again and would recommend to anyone. Just wish we could have stayed longer to take advantage of the refurbished pool.

GREEN TREE LODGE HAS IT ALL: very reasonable prices, excellent location, good security, the chalets are very clean, cozy and comfortable, the food is delicious, the premises are beautifully green and luscious. But Livingstone is filled with accommodation lodges and I’m quite sure that most of them are good, so why Green Tree Lodge? Because Green Tree Lodge is a true “home away from home” – the owner, Hector, is one of the most wonderful people I’ve met in a long while and he and his sweet and very competent staff ensured that my stay was fantastic. The service was just impeccable. The home cooked meals were great and it wasn’t a problem to get something that wasn’t on the menu. The bar was fully stacked, which was fantastic for relaxing by the beautiful pool. The free wireless internet was fast so I even got to do some work and upload all the photos from my adventures. It was really neat to be around all the little rabbits, guinea pigs and fowl – guests with children will be in heaven because kids will love these hairy creatures. But the most impressive and memorable were the chats with Hector. He has lived all over Africa for more than 30 years and it’s just a fountain of knowledge – anything from Livingstone (where to eat, shop, party, go to theater or a concert, how to get there etc.), Vic Falls, Zambia to wherever else your travels may take you. I really highly recommend Green Tree Lodge to everyone – from the business traveler to honeymooners and families with children.

My wife, mother and I stayed at the Green Tree Lodge for 3 nights in July 2009 and found it to be a wonderful hotel in every way. It is located about 5 minutes by taxi from almost anything in Livingstone and not too far from the border and Victoria Falls. The staff is very pleasant and Hector, the owner, is one of the most helpful and congenial fellows I've run across in the hospitality industry. The air conditioned/heated bungalows are simple but nice and certainly very clean, while the grounds are well kept and populated by a few rabbits, guinea fowl and guinea pigs. Lastly, the restaurant was good and very affordable as were the drinks. I highly recommend this hotel without reservation

We are fussy folk, but, there was NOTHING to complain about,it was a pleasure to stay there.First class service at no frills prices. It's peaceful, not far from the town, only 15mins by taxi(not expensive) to the Vic Falls, lovely, individual bugalows, very clean and quiet, sitting within walled gardens, filled with fruit trees, swimming pool, garden chairs, and tame rabbits, guinea pigs, guinea fowl, all living in this little haven.Nothing was too much trouble for the owner,Hector,a great host,or the staff. We did go a couple of evenings down to The Royal Livingstone for sunset cocktails,a must 'do',sitting on the decking on the edge of Zambezi river, but, were very happy to return back to the Green Tree for dinner after that, ample food, all homemade, nicely presented, excellent price's.The breakfasts were wonderful, full cooked English, fresh fruit, juices etc......We cannot praise this super little lodge enough,it was perfect..Would definately go back, and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates warm hospitality, home cooked food, peace and quiet, and very fair prices.......
