“Not a big fan”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

Strange holiday, we stayed at the Golden Sands in Hoi An which was meant to be the basic bit of the holiday and then the Hyatt at the end for a couple of nights of luxury. As it was we actually much preferred the Golden Sands which was a bit less shiny but had a lot more character and was much more fun.

On the plus side we stayed in a Regency Club Suite which was huge and beautifully equipped. Shame about the bugs though. And the swimming pools were very nice as was the club lounge.

On the negative side if you've ever been to the Barbican in London, this hotel is an Asian equivalent. Horribly laid out, loads of grey concrete and bright paths without an ounce of shade. Then to get downstairs to our suite you have to go down a dark concrete staircase which just felt a bit grim. Also being in the club meant for some reason that you have to have the continental club breakfast and not the main hotel breakfast for which you would have to pay extra. Seemed ridiculous given the fact the club is meant to be better and my package said breakfast included.

Also while the staff were fine it all felt rather wooden and glum compared with the genuine warmth at the Golden Sands who made such a fuss of our kids and even carried them off at various points.

As for location, got no idea why anyone would stay here rather than Hoi An. The area feels very soulless with nothng but a row of big hotels and no good places nearby to eat.

Room Tip: Regency Suite was lovely except for some bugs

I went on this trip to attend a wedding. There were more than 200 people attending the wedding and it was nice. The hotel was nice, new and clean but Most of all I liked the beach. My husband and I stayed at a ground floor room with ocean view and direct access to the beach (actually you had to go past the swimming pool first, but it was nice) The room's design and decor was modern with lots of glass throughout - floor to ceiling glass doors to the garden / beach and also a glass wall separating the bathroom and bedroom. That was a small problem because when I turned on the light to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, it lit up the room and woke my husband.
Food in the club lounge and restaurant was decent, not spectacular, the gym and pools were nice, service was good but the best thing about this resort is the beach. Sunrise at around 5am was spectacular. This is a must do!

We also went to Danang city and Hoi An to eat and shop a little. Not very much to do in either place and was quite a distance, but a pleasant diversion nonetheless. Not as vibrant as Bali, not as much nightlife and things to do outside the resort, but Danang has a nicer beach and a spectacular sunrise.

We stayed 6 nights here and could have easily stayed longer. Fantastic beach, facilities and modern comfortable rooms. We stayed in the Club Ocean view room in F121, view of the ocean was nice and we were on the quiet side not looking over the pool area which was more private.
Rooms were great size, clean, modern, great bathroom and balcony area with seating. They made up the sofa bed for our 6 year old daughter, which was very comfortable.
This is a real family Hotel, pools were great, Camp Hyatt great our daughter loved going there, and we also made the most of the fantastic gym. Shuttle bus was very hard to get onto, to go into Hoi An you need to book 4 hours before going and you will fighting with a que of people doing the same thing, we managed to use this after trying 4 times.
Bagette Deli is very handy which is located down the back behind the Spa area, great for wine, beer and snack food.
We had a club room, so we had our breakfasts & dinners there. I wasn't sure what to expect as others had commented by saying it wasn't enough food. We were surprised how good it was, everything you needed for breakfast, including 3 hot choices, breads, cereals, clod meats, cheeses, salads & more. Dinner & drinks between 5.30-7.30pm was also plenty, we did not need dinner after this, it also included healthy options for vegetarians.
Plenty of families while were there in the club area, but this was due to summer holiday's, most children were behaved, but the odd ones let you know they were there, as the parents turned a blind eye.
The staff were lovely throughout the resort, especially in the Regency Club, Camp Hyatt & Via Fitness.
We would certainly return to this resort, and reccommend to others. Thank you Hyatt Regency!

Room Tip: Club rooms, are in a good convenient area of the resort.

Very hard to fault particularly when we were upgraded to a 3 bedroom Villa...thank you Hyatt as it made our stay in Vietnam just that little bit better. We had a party of 5 so the 3 bedroom villa was fantastic with it's own pool and everything you wanted.
I do agree that the 3rd room was out the back and a bit odd
Breakfasts were great however the sea food buffet was the greatest disappointment. As it was to be our treat in Vietnam we were totally underwhelmed by the lack off variety & quality of the seafood. It was expensive by local standards.

Staff were ultra friendly and helpful and very tolerant of some behaviour projected by some guests and their children.

The beach , even by Aussie standards was pretty awesome...but boy it was hot.

We did find the smallish supermart on site was lacking some essentials like a coffee/tea and basics

This is not a Hyatt hotel !
No welcome, after check in we were just left in the lobby with our luggage, rooms are OK but at 4pm our room was not cleaned. The staff is badly dressed and look dirty, they speak very little English. Difficult to get a towel at the pool. The pool is not suited for swimming but only for babies.
The beach is nice but almost impossible to swim. This hotel works a lot with Asian tours so don't expect to relax quietly as they are very very noisy, numbers of unpolite kids screaming everywhere. Breakfast is not good. Not very expensive but not worth the price anyway. Escape from it. We decided to check out earlier and go to a different place. This hotel is an outrage.

We are a group of 9 CEOs of companies that took 3 flights to reach Danang. We had booked multiple 3 bedroom villas with a beach front view.

On arrival, we found out that the villas actually only have 2 rooms inside the villa and the 3rd room is an outhouse typically used by the maids when families use the villa. This was clearly not acceptable to us and so we escalated the matter to the local Hyatt management.

The General Manager and the Marketing Manager of the property met us and we were told that they were running at 102% occupancy and could not help us. We were further told that the Hyatt is the best property in town and the villas we have are very popular - basically telling us that our business did not matter and they could find many more unsuspecting guests to fill their rooms.

We have never seen such poor quality service and arrogant behavior - that too by the GM and the Marketing Manager of a Hyatt property. Obviously, when the leadership of the property has a "screw the customer, who cares" attitude, if will percolate down to the staff.

The property itself is good but our experience has been so distasteful and they have been so blatantly dishonest about the villa that we would never stay there again.

In away the hotel is located in the middle of nowhere, but don't let that fool you. It's right next to a very beautiful beach and it's a good spot to make trips to Hoi An, Da Nang, Marble Mountain and Ba Na Hills, transportation required. The hotel will assist you with taxis and tells you prices before hand (we thought taxis were cheap). Hotel has a complimentary shuttle bus but if you are not travelling alone, getting even two seats seems a mission impossible.

We had a club room and the room was beautiful with partial sea view. Again one of these rooms where they have to have non sealable toilet (my pet hate) to the bathroom, where's the privacy to the one doing the business and how about the poor one who has to listen (we are not all silent) or suffer otherwise ;-), not really a big issue. I found the bed to be little bit too hard for my liking and my back told me so too in mornings. Other than that room was spacious with great walk-in wardrobe and balcony was spacious too.

Now, not having seen the "normal" rooms, I assume that they are the same. If so, I think they charge too much for the club privileges for what you get. Ok, there is the free canapés and drinks every evening but selection is very limited, breakfast selection is pretty limited, as we are not big breakfast eaters, it suited us ok. But for whatever reason on last two nights and mornings (we stayed 6 nights) the selection went down, almost like they were scraping for ingredients or maybe a new manager had taken over and seen the food and beverage invoices? If you want "proper" breakfast, you'll have to fork out another USD22 per person per breakfast. So, if our room included a club breakfast for every morning, it was bit disappointing that they refused to provide anything (even an apple would have done it) for takeaway breakfast (asked afternoon before) for our early departure at 4am. Maybe the Hyatt is still in baby shoes when it comes to club service, or maybe it's the millions of children running and screaming at the lounge that got my fur up.

Beach in front of hotel was beautiful and ocean clean. The main pool is shallow and therefore not that freshing. Club pool deeper and cooler but surrounded by buildings, hot without breeze.

Pool bar was good value with tasty food and great service. Lot's of great staff members there to take care of you like Brian, Than, Steven and My, just to name few. They had great happy hour deals too (unless that has changed, as suddenly last night the happy hour was cancelled without warning, maybe that new manager again ;-) ).

All that said, I could visit the hotel again if I happened to travel to DaNanag again, just that I somehow felt that I was visiting a Condominium....
