“Brand new hotel, good service but location is bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

This hotel is brand new. I stayed there when it soft opened in Dec2011 and recently stayed here again. Almost all the facilities are open now. Rooms are new and fairly spacious. Hotel staff is quite good, also because there are not many guests. I was on executive floor where it has a nice executive lounge. But the breakfast there is sub par, probably not enough guests. The hotel's location, however, is pretty out of the way, in a nice residential area overlooking a river. It is too far to walk to town and the beach. The only winning points in my view are its brand new state and its price.

First time in Da Nang so do not really know what to expect but as I am here on overnight business trip, I chose a hotel which is close to the airport due to my late flight from Hanoi.

The hotel is located less than 15 mins away from the airport and the road conditions here is not as bad compared to Hanoi or HCMC. Clearance from the immigration was a breeze and hence we are at the hotel within a short while. Check in was a breeze and I was upgraded on request. The room looks new though it has been opened slightly more than a year. Modern decor and setting with a nice good shower facilities. However as I noted from other Mercure facilities, the shower does not come with a door so the water can get splashed outside.

The bed is comfortable and of the right hardness. Sufficient pillows made the night sleep and pleasant, however the air conditioner is a little on the cold side. The hotel has 2 restaurants (Chinese and International) and due to late arrival, we had dinner at the Chinese restaurant which is very empty. The quality of the food though not splendid but is acceptable, the level of service throughout the hotel is good. Breakfast was served in the lounge and though the choice is limited, is good enough for a good meal. The view however from the lounge is good as it oversees a river.

Wifi is free throughout the hotel but this is mainly a business hotel I guess as it is in the middle of nowhere. There is also shuttle service to the airport which is well appreciated.

This is a brand new hotel and we spent 2 nights in it.
The hotel's van came to pick us from the airport (a 5-minute drive) and we were a bit surprised to be the only ones in the van.
The hotel is located on some sort of island on a river, and while it IS a quiet location, it's not suitable for tourists at all, as there's absolutely nothing around the hotel.
Our room was upgraded to a club room (being AdvantagePlus Platinum) so check-in was done in the beautiful lounge on the top floor.
The newly appointed GM actually arrived to personally greet us, which was a very nice touch to the check-in.
The lounge itself had some nice nibbles and drinks and also a tiny breakfast.
The room was nicely appointed, with everything being so new. The minute I entered the room I could tell something is not right. The room smelled of new cement and a/c mold, and I don't mean a weak smell. The place was reeking.
Since the hotel was practically empty, we went through most of the other rooms on the 17th and 18th floors, but all of them were the same - new, unventillated and reeking.
Finally, at around 23:00, we got to room 1120, which was ok.
The beds were very nice, but the shower (no bath tub) was not so practical as it kept flooding the bathroom's floor.
We had a problem with the safe in the room - it did not work, so after apx. 30 minutes a new safe was placed in the room instead of the malfunction one.
The hotel's pool was rather small, but no complaints there.
We went to dinner at the hotel's only restaurant, but since we were the only ones there throughout the 2-hour dinner, it felt almost creepy, plus there were some language issues with the waitress.
Bottom line - while this can easily become a solid 4-star hotel, those annoying teething issues should be resloved as soon as possible... .

Room Tip: Make sure to book (or get upgraded to) a club room.

International 5 star service. And for the value at 100usd, even more so. The staff in particular are world class, friendly and extremely efficient. The food, room service and breakfast, is brilliant. Like many places I've found in Vietnam, they can do the best carbonara.

This is a brand new hotel but the location is not good for anything but business. You can't walk to anywhere, which means you are captive to the hotel and their prices for anything from a can of coke upwards. The rooms are fine, if a little small. The bed seemd a bit short to me and I am only 185.

My major concern was the service. Due to leave at 06.30, all I wanted was a cup of tea. What a problem. The tea in the room was green, despite calls and visits by room service , I never did get a simple tea bag for a cup of English Breakfast ( black ) tea. Nor could I get to see a duty manager. He was off duty !! Left my business card, but still no contact.

I will not be going back again. The main attaraction to Da nang is the beach and the seafood. This place has neither and the staff have'nt got a clue. I have stayed in 3 other hotels in Da Nang and this place goes to number 4 on my list of 4.

It is a taxi ride for anything and the hotel does not have much in the way of food or drinks to offer and nothing at a reasonable price.
