“One of the most relaxing holidays ever...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Please do not delay and book at least a week at this resort! My husband and I spent 10 heavenly days at Fusion Maia at the end of September. The resort is about 30mins drive from Da Nang airport (we paid 150k VND for the transfer). The weather, although approaching rainy season, was glorious - there was only one full day of rain.

Check-in was easy and the welcome drink was refreshing. The resort entrance is understated and certainly does not prepare you for the beautiful view that greets you once you get to the main pool with views out to the sea. The grounds are very well kept by the gardeners. It is very easy to find your way around as everything is basically off a main path. Everything has a pleasant calmness and this really does relax you immediately.

We had room near the beach. The room is just as it appears on the website. Spacious, homely and elegant. We loved the outdoor space and the lounge area. There is ample storage space to make yourself truly at home. The bathroom is large with a huge sunken bath which takes an eternity to fill. The room has all the amenities you would expect of a 5-star hotel. The room was kept exceptionally well by the house-keeping team who provided a faultless service. We used the dry cleaning service and our garments were returned to us without fault.

In addition to the buffet breakfast the resort operates a breakfast 'anytime, anywhere policy'. We only had breakfast in the buffet area twice. The 'anywhere, anytime' breakfast was too tempting - we mainly ate at the Fresh restaurant at around 11-ish (we are on holiday after all!). The breakfast options were all delicious and varied enough to keep us from getting bored. We ate lunch at the Fresh restaurant also and found the menu and service excellent. Due to the fantastic-ness of the place we barely left the place in the day or evening. We went to Hoi An twice via the shuttle bus and had a nice evening out but really we wanted to get back to luxurious, blissfullness at Fusion Maia. The Five Restaurant dinner menu was delicious and it was easy to rack up a hefty bill (we are on holiday after all!) after a few nights dining there. The in-room dining service was good also. The best dish we had was at the Fresh restaurant - it was Mrs Cham's soup. It was a fantastic sea food and noodle soup. Any seafood lover should try this.

The beach is truly beautiful. It is deep and wide and was barely used for our entire stay. We had many long walks along the beach speaking to people along the way. Definitely beach heaven. The sea was a little rough whilst we were there but we could still go for a dip or a swim. The resort has a cabana area which we pretty much lounged in every day - we could barely move ourselves. The infinity pool is wonderful also. I became known as the 'crab lady' as I had a 'little' fascination with the crabs on the beach - they provided all the entertainment I needed!

We made use of the Spa on a number of occasions, and found the treatments very good. We really enjoyed the steam room, sauna and spa pool. We never had any problems making bookings which we usually did a few hours ahead of the time we wanted. The massages were the highlight for me - firm and soothing. We made use of the gym quite a few times and found the equipment more than sufficient for a full body workout.

The really stand out thing about Fusion Maia is the service by the entire team - it is by far the best service we have received in a hotel - everyone gets a 10/10 and it is the reason why you feel so happy to give tips. It seems that the staff are genuinely happy working here and this must be down to an excellent management team. This level of service, coupled with the gorgeous rooms, beautiful beach, spa and quiet elegance, makes it one place I could not recommend highly enough. It delivers more that you could expect and is excellent value for money. Go on...treat yourself...you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: The rooms all seem to be very well positioned to ensure full privacy. We had a room near the beach w...

It was an awesome hotel with excellent beach, helpful staff, good food, restful spa treatments. Enjoyed myself thoroughly.
Good to go during low season period ( I went in October), when the hotel was not crowded. Spa treatments were easily available and it was like a private beach to yourself.

Room Tip: Villa 2002 was near to the spa and away from the construction site of a new resort next door

We were travelling with one of our mature age daughters. We had not travelled in Vietnam before and were looking for a place to relax in comfort without being too expensive. The Fusion Maia met these requirements plus some. All staff, from grounds people to managers, were polite, helpful and friendly, so much so that we were unable to mention a particular person for the monthly award.
The villa was the most luxurious we have ever stayed in - 2 bedrooms with spa bath ensuites, a kitchen area with table, coffee machine and crockery, a lounge with wide screen TV, DVD player and ipod. Then there was the garden with it's plunge pool, lounge and grass areas. Super clean and very comfortable.
Breakfasts were an experience themselves with the opportunity to have them anywhere, anytime from the beach, to the pool, the villa and the Fusion Lounge in Hoi An. Our favourite was the buffet in 5 restaurant - we all recommend the eggs croquant.
The Spa is worth a special mention. 2 treatments a day are included in the cost of the villa - with a wide choice available. The girls/women staff are amazing and very skilled in their profession. We struggled to have 2 treatments a day as we were there for 11 days and wanted to get out and about in the area.
The holistic approach of healthy lifestyle themes for each day of the week was really great, opportunities existed, each day, to meditate, walk on the beach, reflect, do Tai Chi on Marble Mountain, etc.
Although 10 minutes from Da Nang and half an hour from Hoi An there was only a shuttle to Hoi An 3 times a day - a necessity for dinners other than in the hotel. One recommendation would be to increase the number of shuttles.
Well worth the trip as Central Vietnam is lovely without the constant pressure from street traders often found in South East Asia.

I'm so glad I paid attention to the many positive reviews and was able to see through the lower reviews. I went for a little over two weeks and stayed 23 days at the Fusion Maia.

Here are some things I wish I knew before I arrived:
-If there is still construction I did not notice any of it. So I'm glad that wasn't a current issue that was mentioned in a few past reviews.
-The outlets in the rooms are 220
-The outlet in the bathroom is 110
-They provide adapters for any plug at the front desk free of charge
-Provided in the bathroom are nice soaps, shampoos, conditioner, hair dryer, etc.
-The spa has a locker/changing rooms with additional amenities.
-The internet is wifi and free throughout the entire resort. I Skyped from everywhere. Near the beach, pool, breakfast, gardens, lobby, etc.
-The bathroom in your room is large. Mine included two sinks, a huge step down tub that could fit at least 2, a stand up Roman shower with a built in bench.
-There is laundry and dry cleaning service provided several times a day. So if you set clothes out to be cleaned in the morning they will return them that night.
They provide beach towels and there is a beach tote in your room for use while staying at the resort.
-The land line phone service works great.
-Your room includes a tv, a few channels in English, a land line phone, wifi internet, your own private pool and garden, a couch, desk, coffee table, etc.
-They provide a glade pest control plug-in that housekeeping will plug into your wall for turn down service. If you leave this plugged in overnight you shouldn't have bug issues.
-The room has A/C
-The room, sheets, towels, etc were 5 star clean.
-They provide a complimentary shuttle to Hoi An where you can find a local market, restaurants, and custom made clothing. I would recommend visiting early in your trip if you want clothes made to receive them back with 1-2 additional alterations before you leave. (Most of the recommended tailors will bring the clothes to your hotel for your final fitting.)
-The shuttle drops you off at a satellite spa & restaurant location... the spa treatments are free for hotel guests at this location too... getting a foot massage after shopping all day is wonderful. The treatments here are first come first serve, but during their busy season I never had a problem.
-The breakfast anywhere anytime is literal. You can order rooms service from the breakfast menu for free 24 hours a day. There is also a buffet breakfast included every morning. Fresh fruits, meats, yogurt, pastries, fresh squeezed juices, omelet station, granola, cereals, cheese, etc. There's also an included breakfast menu you can order from on top of the buffet, free of charge.
-You'll have access to 3 pools. The private pool in your villa garden, the main pool over looking the ocean right on the beach, and the pool in the spa garden.
-The main pool area steps down onto a beautiful light sand beach with resort provided lounges, with or without umbrellas, your choice
-The spa works like this: You are guaranteed two spa treatments a day per person. Beyond that it is first come/first serve for additional appointments that can be booked free of charge at the last minute to be fair to all of the guests in getting their two treatments. Great system to try to be fair to all the guests.
-Tips were never asked for or mentioned for the spa, but I couldn't help tip them a little something after each treatment. (At time I wrote this approximately 100,000 dong = $5.00US)
-The property is beautiful and perfectly designed to let go of hectic life and relax. I found if you mentioned you needed anything they typically already had a solution. So make sure you let them know when you want something that you can't find.

COMMUNICATING EFFECTIVELY WHEN YOU TRAVEL You are traveling to a country that English is not only not the first language, but not the second or third language taught to locals. (For those traveling there from the US, remember it wasn't very long ago that we invaded and killed so many people in the country. To expect them to learn or care to learn English is just awful.) BUT the Vietnamese people are sweet and want guests to their home to be happy so the Fusion Maia does provide English lessons once a week to their employees. If you can think back to your language classes in school to communicate effectively you need to learn Vietnamese OR speak slowly and use proper words without slang that would typically be taught to new English students. (IE "Hey. Can you toss that out?" Is most likely not taught in lessons, but knowing the words they may learn and the way the Vietnamese language is structured they should understand "Hello. Please can you put in trash.")

Hope this helps. I highly recommend not only visiting the Fusion Maia in Da Nang on your trip through Viet Nam, but staying a few more days than you planned there and just relax.

nice resort indeed. i just returned here a for the weekend on a business trip, as a layover between meetings in hcm-saigon and hanoi; i especially looked forward to the excellent breakfast after a good sleep, which they serve all day including the information in the room. i arrived today to the restaurant five at 10.25 am with many guests present, but they told me that the buffet at the open show kitchen is closed at 10.30 h and i would have to go to the pool bar. i went there and wanted to have a vietnamese soup and eggs, which was not possible, because it were fixed menues (vietnamese, continental, western, french). so i went back to the restaurant five; still many guests eating, but again no brakfast here (although there still was the buffet and so were the chefs). bad experience indeed. i will not come back here for holidays with my wife as intended.

We are sorry to hear about your breakfast experience and most definately not our usual standards which are very flexible as breakfast any time and place is one of our really special features that allow guests a relaxed feeling at the resort. We will follow up to ensure this does not happen again. Thank you for your feedback.

My wife and I have just returned from a 10 day trip to Vietnam which included a weeks stay at Fusion Maia to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary and our first ever trip to South East Asia.
We had found the resort via an e-mail shot we were sent by Elegant Resorts and set about researching it using various sources including TripAdvisor.

Much has been written in previous reviews but the reality exceeded our expectations. From the moment we were picked up at Da Nang airport and given cool towels and refreshing drinks we have loved every minute of our stay.

From the reception staff to the restaurant staff from the pool bar staff to the housekeeping and grounds staff and the amazing spa staff and treatments absolutely everybody employed at this resort find nothing too much trouble for the guests and always with a smile on their faces and a willingness to chat and ask after you whilst you are there. We made some friends during our stay and were taken out one evening by some of the staff.
A special mention to Thang and Maia who tried to teach us Vietnamese but we were not very good students !!

The spa treatments included in this stay are absolutely fantastic and the whole experience of the spa reception before and after enhances the experience. Breakfast is absolutely amazing and you are totally spoilt for choice.

I had requested a private dinner on the night of our anniversary and Christian, the resort manager, together with the food and beverage manager consulted us on our requirements and set us a beautiful table in the private gardens of the spa overlooking the spa pool which had been decorated with candles. Our cheerful and efficient waiting on staff together with the great food and wine made the evening unforgettable and our thanks go to all who made it.

I could go on and on about the fabulous private rooms with pool and the fabulous beach location etc but just go and see for yourself because you will not be disappointed

For us Fusion Maia was simply the best.

Room Tip: Any they're all great

Fusion Maia is everything I needed to fuse my interest of 5 star with the healing ambience of sanctuaries, ashrams etc. So to me being an international wellness consultant and yoga teacher - this was a 6 star Luxury Ashram:-)

The villas are a home away from home. The resort is designed to give a guest privacy most of the time i.e. even though I was there during 100% occupancy I hardly saw the other guests as the resort has so many unique spaces for different kinds of guests.

The shuttle service to charming Hoi An is so enticing to go and visit the Fusion Lounge or just chillout shop or cafe & eatout at hip places in the truly fairy tale town of Hoi An:-)

The spa being the heart/soul concept of FM - excellent in terms of the therapists & decor/ambience. I have never been to such a big spa (in terms of size) and to see things run quite so smoothly. The training for spa therapists is ongoing which is great for constant quality - esp as spa is complimentary to a guests stay, the quality was superb just as one would get for a paid treatment at any 5-6 star destination spa. The unlimited spa was the biggest plus for a spa queen like me as I felt so nurtured & balanced..

I was at fusion for 40 days and these 40 days was like a modern Panckarma (ayurveda detox) for me. With the treatments I liked - the treatment selection is very good. Fusion has some cool signature treatments :-) The gym is also the nicest resort gum I've been to, a great view of the beach and so inviting (never missed gym as it was the perfect gym on the beach).

The coffee & smoothies were one of my highlights as the staff at the Tonic bar were delightful to visit. The food prepared by Chef Yum (given that I am vegetarian) was wonderful. Room service was amazing in that they always arrived to the minute, and this punctuality appealed to me.

The Management are so new age, heart centred, definitely a newness in the hospitality industry. Michelle (GM) and the team fused their management with a unique blend of compassion, discipline, innovation with constant creativity ongoing on FM.

The 7-day natural living program is a unique concept for spa goers, for people wanting to detox, for people wanting to try something new to instill wellness into their life, for honeymooners. From yoga, meditation, tai chi, mocktails, making spring rolls, cardio dance rhythm, creative journaling, wellness reading - it is simply Wow!!! The highlights to me here were the Tai Chi on Marble Mountain, and the Eco Power Walk. The yoga is wonderful now that the yoga therapists have been trained by an international yoga specialist on yoga in spa therapy, so now FM has yoga spa therapists. They are a great yoga team, and fusion offers guest yoga as well as staff yoga which is bringing yoga as part of fusion life. Unique is the Fusion Flow yoga sequences designed for each day of the week.

I met people @ fusion who are friends for future and many things going forward. A huge thank you to Michelle, Natalie, Chef Yum, Joel, the Barista at Tonic, Miss Uyen in the restaurant, Miss Hoa housekeeping, and my diamond spa therapists at spa, and many people @ the spa. Mr Thao at spa management & Miss Thuy spa reception were wonderful as they managed my spa schedule with love & care (which was important to me).

Fusion Maia is imprinted onto my impression for mind body soul healing, and I am part of the Fusion Familia for a few fabulous reasons:-) FM is magnifique - a holistic sanctuary for mind body soul balancing.. It has been the biggest gift for my 40 day sabbatical:-) thank you
