“An oasis close to downtown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2012

This is a really lovely place, your cottage is surrounded by flowers and shrubs, a swimming pool beckons and the owners are very helpful.
Because of the peaceful setting you are located somewhat out of downtown (it took us about 10/15 minutes to walk to downtown Hoi An) but you can cut that short by using the supplied bicycles. That is the way to go!! Really easy, park them downtown almost everywhere and enjoy the place.
Definitely recommend this place to stay in Hoi An. Reserve early to avoid disappointment, it fills up quickly.

Betel garden is a short ride from the town center. We loved this homestay. Beautiful gardens, nice rooms, and wonderful people. This stay was definitely quiet and peaceful and we could hear the birds singing some where. It was fantastic to be able to use one of the bikes of the homestay. Cycling was the best way to go around the town.

I stayed at this lovely homestay in may 2012 after reading some of the reviews here on tripadvisor. I can only agree with the rest of you, its lovely.

They only have 7 rooms (bungalows) so its not a big place, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in friendly service and the tangible "homely" feel of the place.
Stay here if you dont want to be in the middle of the huzzle and buzzle of Hoi An, if you like me fancy a nice breakfast, and value great service.

The room wasnt anything spectacular, but it works. I am happy I started my holiday in Vietnam here.

Pros:
Lovely garden setting
Small, intimate, real homely feeling
Great, friendly staff who greats you by your name
Fantastic breakfast (a la carte- and yes you can have everything on the menu)
Tucked away from the busy center of Hoi An (take a short taxi ride or walk into town)

Cons:
My room was fitted with horrid lighting. Operation room luminous tube- like.
Pool was very varm, and not cooling (month of may 2012)

Warmly recommend this place- and Hoi An over all- easily my favorite town on the beachy- eastside of Vietnam.

We tried to book into the Bethel Garden Homestay several weeks in advance, but because of the popularity of this place we only were able to reserve for two nights.Like the nearby Hai Au where we also stayed, this hotel is located away form the main tourist area and shops near the river. In my estimation it would be about 1/2 an hour walk or about a $4 cab ride away from the main action.

The Bethel Garden is about a 5 minite walk off the main road and across a small river in a peaceful quiet setting. This is a very dark walk at night but we never in anyway felt unsafe walking it.Upon entering the property we were immediatly impressed with the garden setting and the layout of the six or so available rentals.

The staff was extremely friendly and carried our bags up a flight of stairs to our room. The layout of our room was very impressive, tastefully decorated with a nice warm ambience. The room was equipped with a queen and double bed both of which were very comfortable offering one a good nights sleep.A long with the standard air con, and TV set was adequate storage units and a nice table and chair set, free fresh fruit, tea and coffee.Outside was another table and chair set on our own personal balconey, overlooking the garden.

Breakfast in the morning was good and the coffee was freshly brewed and topped up upon request. Free laundry and (I think) free bikes were also in the offering.Customer service was amazing as we had a short notice laundry request that they were more than happy to oblige.Because of our scheduled flight,we had a super early breakfast request of about 5:30 AM, in which the friendly young lad who worked there, was happy to oblige.

The Bethel Garden is nice enough on its own merits, but what set it apart for us with us was the superb customer service. Our late laundry request and the early morning wake up to accomodate our breakfast requirement, is what earns places like the Bethel garden high ratings.Currently they are rated in the top three and I feel that they deserve their lofty status.

In closing....
I felt a sickness in my stomach as we departed from there upon checkout. I wanted to tip the young lad VERY BADLY but only had very large bills in my pocket as we drove away. Most likely the kid wont remember me but I just want to let him know that we really appreciated the thoughtful service. Hopefully this review will help.

Room Tip: We got the last rental available and it was still very good!

After so much research as to where to stay in Hoi An, we chose Betel Garden Homestay based on TA reviews.

We stayed 8 days (originally booked for 6, but extended our stay) we came with no expectations and was pleasantly rewarded.

Myself, husband & our 5 year old son, enjoyed a wonderful stay. In the first few days, I was unwell, (unrelated to travel), and so I spent much needed rest time in my air con bungalow and equally in the garden setting covered dining/cafe area. The staff are just beautiful, kind and very professional, they would ask how I was and showed genuine concern.

Once healed & rested, my family & I rode the free bicycles along the river to town, easy access, very safe, hardly any other traffic, no cars and lovely river views.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast included in our stay, also the food that can be purchased from the cafe, is equally delicious, very reasonable prices and of course freshly made, by the wonderful cook.

The room was a bungalow, with one large bed & and single, perfect for us. Good air con.

Laundry is $1.50 per kilo which is a good price for an accommodation stay.

The setting is a beautiful garden, after staying in hotels in other cities, it was a wonderful change, safe & peaceful setting for our 5 year old to enjoy. Our son equally enjoyed helping the gardeners with the little fishpond and loved playing with other guests children, event though the children all spoke different languages. ! Very beautiful to see...

The clean pool also in a lovely setting.

We made friends with other guests & staff, even though it was a Homestay, you still had privacy should you want it, or the company of lovely people if you require it, best of both worlds which is great.

We were so fortunate to be invited to two free family dinners. This is where all the guests, plus some staff, including the lovely owner, all sit together in the dining garden area and all Vietnamese dishes are freshly cooked and brought out for all to share. It was a wonderful experience, we were so blessed to have this on our first night & then our last dinner, to share stories and travel experiences with people we met at Betel Garden Homestay.

Because we stayed longer, we were also offered a free boat trip with another family, a fun afternoon had by all.

All in all, would we come back? A big yes..in a heart beat.. in fact we took many photos and have already emailed them to Betel Garden Homestay.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff at Betel Garden Homestay – we hope to see you next year.

Room Tip: Bungalow rooms for family good, plus little patio for sitting.

This was the perfect place for our family. Our 6, 4 and 2 year old children loved the pool, the birds, the fish, the garden and especially the bike rides to town. They even provided a bike seat for the baby upfront. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff at this hotel are so lovely and accommodating. The food, delicious. We had such a great time in Hoi An thanks to our lovely hosts.

* Bike ride to town- a nice easy ride. Bike ride to beach, a bit too far, take a cab.

The word homestay to me conjours up an almost hostel feel not so the Betel Garden. we stayed in both a room in the house and a bungalow they where clean, spacious and very quiet. The staff go out of their way to assist you in any way they can ( a special thanks to Chung, Vang, Hing and Dong) The food is the best we tasted in Hoi An try the banana flower salad its yummy saying that everything we tried was yummy, and we ate there quite a few times. A lovely place to come back to to chill after a day trip or the inevertable shopping trip!!
