You take your chances when you book a hotel, site unseen, on the net. Even with information an guidance provided on sites such as these, it is invariable that at times you will be disappointed.
We, in the modern age of online travel, are spoiled for choice and overloaded with information. So when the stars align and you find yourself in the right place, it is a fortuitous thing, and one that cannot be undervalued.
We arrived here on the night that Typhoon Hiyan was making its threats to hit Hoi An. The property staff and management were well and truly organised to manage any potential extreme event, and went to great lengths to make us, as new arrivals, feel at ease and as safe as we could be. This alone deserves a 5 star rating.
As the storm passed us by, the skies opened to beautiful weather. And with it came a new face of the Hotel - and the one that most guests would see most of the time. A warm and friendly team, we were made to feel at home and welcome and part of the family all at once.
Aside from the gracious service, the rooms are lovely and spacious - the amenities comfortable and the grounds simply lovely. The evening 'Street Food Market', free for guests, and featuring local cuisine, calligraphy demonstrations and lantern making are worth the room tariff alone.
I could go on...but two final things:
1. A big thanks to the wonderful Tam who made our stay even better with her personal interest in us, and her service. It's people like her who make the difference between a 'nice' stay and a 'wonderful' one. Thanks Tum - I hope your bosses appreciate you as much as we did
2: DO NOT visit the Spa that is next to the property. It is apparently not affiliated with the Hotel, but gives the impression that it is. I stupidly had an eyebrow wax here, and had skin ripped off my eyelid - not to mention the swelling an pain that came with it. When the complaint was presented, the staff denied any wrong doing, and claimed I must have had an allergy, or something must have bitten me. neither was the case. DO NOT risk anything beyond a manicure, they really have no idea what they are doing.
