We stayed here 5 nights, having booked based on the bulk of other reviews. Everything was up to expectation. Great room, pool, food and staff were friendly and helpful. A little way from the old town but we used the shuttle all the time so no problem.

We had to leave early in the morning and they even gave us breakfast to have while travelling.

Really enjoyed it there and highly recommend it.

If one is traveling on a severely limited budget and/or has low expectations then Grassland might fit your need. Otherwise, pay a few dollars more and look elsewhere. Overall, it seems that this hotel is running on a shoe string.

Pros:

+ The only real positive are the ladies manning the reception desk. Very, very helpful.

+ For fitness buffs, there are free bicycles, but for me the "cultural experience" of Hoi An did not include arriving at a destination sopping wet in my own sweat. Plus, the road in/out of town is a narrow 2-lanes, so pedal with care since bus/car drivers operate with abandon.

Cons:

+ Based on 6 weeks travel in Vietnam, I can say that beds generally run from firm to hard. Grassland sets another standard: rock hard. And that's no exaggeration.

+ The bathroom looked like it was done with the 1960's in mind, using the cheapest possible plastic bits and pieces. Unless you are a child, water from the wall mounted hand held shower head hits about chest high -- and pulses so it looks like a cobra snake preparing to strike. Quite funny actually.

The towels are worn paper thin and though were once maybe white, are now a dingy gray, with an odd smell...as if they were washed without laundry powder. More suitable for mopping floors than for guests to dry on.

+ An uninspired breakfast is served in open al fresco style. Flies swarmed the uncovered dishes. One morning I watched a kitchen worker putting out a 2-handful batch of cutlery, and in mid stride delivered a powerful sneeze directly onto the silverware. No attempt to turn her head. Needless to say that put me off breakfast altogether.

+ The location is far from Old Town and the beach is miles away. The hotel runs a scheduled van into town several times a day.

Dear Sir,
Thanks for all your comment and feedback for the stay with us.

Our Hotel has been step by step upgrading the facilities up to the standard of the 3 star hotel and it is still carry on. The bed, bathroom and even the amenities are in our plan upgrading implementation. So we are sure your next trip if we have chance to welcome you, things will be totally different.

The Hoian City as all of us aware that we are encouraged to travel by bicycle to have eco-environment city. With the distance about 1 km between ancient area & beach, we offer both bicycle and shuttle bus to provide more convenience for guests.

F&B team has been appreciated for all your comment, we will improve all criteria for a better breakfast also the services

Best regards,
Mr Le Hoang

Many hotels advertise how great they are until you arrive and let you down big time, not with Grassland Hotel. From airport pick up to the 20 minute drive to the hotel to the friendly Miss Giao the most wonderful receptionist i have met in Vietnam, her knowledge of where to visit how to get there what you should expect to pay and more, has made my visits here so enjoyable over the years. All mod cons like aircon, satellite tv,mini bar full of beer, soft drink, and wine, reliable hot showers, and i have found good wifi reception in my room at any time of the day.The pool area is worthy of any 5 star hotel in the world,Mr Mau has made an oasis of his garden at his hotel so a perfect spot for a drink after your trip into the old town. The domestic staff do a great job of maintaining a high degree of room cleaning and i have found the buffet breakfast is now much better their cook has to be congratulated on her pancakes with chocolate sauce, the bicycles are new and are free to use,get down to An Bang beach for a swim and some of the best priced sea food and beer in Vietnam it is a short 15 minute ride and see one of the best sunsets over the South China Sea.there are many clothes shops in Hoi an you have to be careful where you go,not every shop looks after the customer, poor fabrics, shocking tailoring, and price,i have had shirts and 2 jackets made with good collars that do not turn up at the ends after the first wash,i would recommend The Grassland Clothes Shop ,good fabrics and well made with an honest price. There are rooms with a balcony, with some good views they come with a table and chairs,i would say a good place to stay.I am lucky i can leave work get on a plane and be at this hotel in a matter of hours and recharge my batteries surrounded in Grassland Hotel bliss.

Room Tip: any room above the ground floor, for a view,The 3rd floor i have found is great for wifi ,rooms looki...

We paid US$25 per night for this hotel and had an amazing pool, beautiful buffet breakfast, free bikes and incredible service. A quick bike ride into the ancient town provides a perfect location. They booked our train tickets from hue to Hanoi for us after we asked how to go about that and really took care of us. 100% recommend this place for a luxury getaway for the budget traveller

Me and my boyfriend were met by a van from this hotel at the bus drop off coming from hue. As we didn't have a place to stay we decided to check it out. We thought the price wasn't exactly what we were looking for son we decide to check some other hotels down on the same street. It ended up coming back here because the others hotels we found were only 3 dollars cheaper but without the commodities we would have in grassland: we have (delicious buffet) breakfast, free bicycles and a (very nice) swimming pool. Staff is friendly and helpful. We even prolonged our stay here for two more days.

The less expensive rooms are a bit little however the restroom is expansive enough and clean. We were even given a free redesign with our room and it was stunning. The staff were in general really amicable. Super-accommodating staff. The breakfast was perfectly cooked to request and there was a tremendous determination to browse. The breakfast was wonderfully cooked to request and there was an unlimited choice to browse.
