“Needs some TLC”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago via mobile

The property is beautiful and convenient to the market, however is in need of TLC. The beds are hard with only one pillow. Couldn't close the bathroom, armoire or the fridge cupboard doors. Cleaning was sporatic, some times towels and other times not. A faulty kettle to make tea for two but only one mug provided. Breakfast was exactly the same each morning with entrees kept warnish due to lack of heat cans. The pool was nice and I guess for the price we got what we paid for. Staff did not appear to have much interest if we were happy or not, with confusing duel lobbys.

Breakfast is a very good buffet with stunning river views. The pool is also right on the river. It's a 2 minute stroll to the old town and central market. Phoi Hoi gets bad reviews because it is in need of updates (they were doing some when we left). It is a budget holiday dream or a nightmare for those who want white sheets or 5 star service for this price. The staff are extremely friendly but do need to improve their English and show initiative. We've stayed 3 times in the last 10 years and not much has changed, whilst we understand the frustrations, we love it for what it is.

Room Tip: 3rd floor river view rooms are the oldest but have views. Garden view rooms are quiet but a bit dark...

Just half a kilometre from the bus station. Beds were comfortable and had a small balcony with river view. There was a loud party going on from 7.30 - 9.30pm which could be heard easily in the budget hotel section. The shower had hardly any pressure and you had to crouch down low in the bath tub which could be slippery. The wifi was really bad it kept fading in and out even in the reception area. I told the staff but nothing was done. Breakfast is an all you can eat smorgasboard which starts at 6.30am. They did an early check in for me, but inhad to wait an hour and a half for the room to be ready even though the place had plenty of spare rooms. Good location and easy to walk to ancient town, just over the bridge.

The Location is great, just a quick walk to the markets, however, the beds where rock hard and the pillows the same. the showers are so low /the hot water takes forever. The hotel is a little old. If you don't mind the above, the price was great. Cheap drinks at the bar and it was nice to sit by the river at night. The pool was lovely.

Room Tip: Cheap & close to Markets

I think everyone is bring very harsh . We've biked along the coast staying different places each night over the last week. We've found this hotel great. Our rooms are directly across from the pool with an interconnecting door to our teenager's next door. There are family rooms which have 2 rooms seperated by a curtain so suitable for younger kids ...were quite happy to have a lockable door between us! The pool is the best temperature of all we've stayed in and the kids declared it the best yet. .a lot of hotels around vietnam let the locals use the pool and it can be crowded. .we had this practically to ourselves. Rooms are old style and bathrooms are dated. .but this had been or experience everywhere. They are clean and fresh towels and water each day plus some bananas. Breakfast is buffet style as everywhere else. You can have eggs anyway toy like our a noodle soup with meat and seafood or bread and fruit plus hot dishes like fried rice. Pretty standard although less choice than some .
Those complaining may only be staying in hoi ann which is the most touristy place we've been. .hence their expectations may be different. .but for us we've loved it .

My Mrs booked this place. While in transit I had a look at theses reviews and thought what has she done ! However.......this joint is ok, remembering you get what you pay for. On checking in mid morning the blokes on reception spoke great English, we're very helpful and pointed us in the right direction, which we need as we were virgin travellers to Vietnam. Yes the rooms need some TLC especially the power points....I had to hold the plug in the socket to boil the kettle that wouldn't switch off once boiled...we had a pool/river view with adjoining rooms for the rug rats which worked a treat. Service was nice and friendly, wifi great, pool sensational along with breakfast with some variety. Location was great, really enjoyed my morning run along the banks of the river. Tip: as you leave the hotel at the bridge, directly across the road is a great one stop shop for bike hire, washing and taxis. The son was extremely helpful and great with my kids along with his mum. Need a maxi cab for two families booked for 4:30am and old mate even got to say goodbye :) the hotel even had packed breakfast for us to take. For 100AUD a night, why wouldn't ya, we will again !!

Room Tip: Grab the top pool/river view rooms, just watch the power points !
