“hotel hightlight in a beautiful town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2010

We planned to stay in Hoi An for about 3 days. Very soon we decided to extend out stay to a whole week. The Long Life Hotel has an excellent location, everything is in walking distance - old town, restaurant and spas and cloths shops. The hotel is simply beautiful and the staff working there is wonderful. Especially the two ladys at reception are so supportive & friendly!! The rooms are just pretty, very clean and the breakfast buffet which is included is simply great! If you need some reat, the hotel garden with its pool and big umbrellas welcomes you! We would definitely stay here again. This place is a real hightlight among all hotels we saw in our whole Vietnam trip. Thank You!

Not a great experience: when I first arrived they apparently did not receive my booking (i'd book through an online travel agent). They also insisted on retaining my passport for the duration of the stay - which did not happen anywhere else in my travels in Vietnam.

In the three days I was there, I changed rooms twice, once because the hot water tap did not work and the second because they wanted to install a new air conditioner in the replacement room they had given me (and this was despite the fact that I was due to check out the next day).

The rooms were tired looking and every one had something that did not work well.

The rooms are not soundproof - you can hear the noise from people walking about in the corridors and the street. Street facing rooms are not recommended, not least because of the street noise, but the back up generator sits in front. During a power cut when the generator is running (which happened twice), it gets very noisy.

However, on the plus side, the rooms were big and bathroom acceptably clean with hot water; there is free wifi. They provide two 1.5L bottles of water everyday, which is one up from most hotels. The banana pancakes at breakfast are really yummy, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The My Son tour I'd requested them to book, and the car and driver to the airport were both faultless.

It is also pretty well located, within walking distance of the old town, although there looked to be at least a couple more hotels of similar standard along the stretch, such that if i were to return, i would try one of the other ones out.

We travelled to Hoi An to celebrate our wedding with family and friends from all corners of the world, and booked most of the hotel for over a week ! The Thanh Xuan staff was attentive to our every need and even helped us organise a Vietnamese ceremony in the garden, a wedding cyclo and a dessert banquet. With a smile and a bit of patience everything always came together really well :)
We recommend garden rooms ... they are spacious and cosy, and helped us relax away from the wedding madness.
Don't get stuck on details and don't hesitate to ask the friendly staff if you need anything !

What we experienced for almost all of Hoi An holds true for this hotel: the facade looks great but when you look more closely it's less than what was expected. The reception staff is the exception, they were at least trying to be helpful. However, the amenities are out of date and either not working or not even there. For example, there's no personal safety box, as stated, and the antenna tv is not working. The bathroom looks great, too, with a stylish sink and a jacuzzi bath tub. However, the fosset is so ridiculously close to the sink that you can hardly wash your hands and the water pressure is a joke. In the end, there was no water running at all and we had to call the reception. They walked in and out of our room, suggesting we'd move to another room.. After a while the water pressure was back to the way it was before (great). Only after a little pressure, the reception girl finally agreed to call the manager for an eventual discount.
The garden and pool area could be very nice but look rather neglected.
The breakfast buffet looks better than it is but it's ok.
For 32$ a night we would expect a bit more -especially for the trip advisor top value. We've been traveling troughout SE Asia for the last five weeks and this is the first hotel we would absolutely not recommend; maybe we've been very spoiled so far.

This is without doubt one of the best hotels we've stayed in and it is mainly due to the personal attention and warm welcome we received from the staff. They were great from the moment we walked in the door and despite both me and the hubby getting sick (not from anything connected to the hotel, I hasten to add!!), this was still one of the best bits of our trip thanks to how comfortable we were made during our illnesses, as well as the delights of Hoi An in between.

The room was a double room at the front of the hotel, so the noise of the street might bother some people as daily life starts early in Vietnam. If you sleep lightly, I'd recommend sending a request for a rear room instead. However, the room we had was lovely - the style of the room is quite old-fashioned, full of character and charm, but perhaps just a little bit tired in places. We were happy there for 5 nights, so this shouldn't put anyone off, just something to be aware of. It was a good size, with a very large bathroom, one of the few we've had with a bath tub in it, although in this country, you're unlikely to use it.

The staff on the front desk were really helpful; they booked flights for us, sorted out day trips, arranged our taxi to the airport on leaving, plus more, and always with a smile and some chat. Just be aware that when it comes to checkout, if you have a large bill to pay, you'll need to plan getting cash out for it as they don't take cards here.

Breakfast was the best yet of our stay in Vietnam, with plenty of choices, some western, some Asian, and all very good. As you eat it out in the garden, it is a lovely start to the day. The pool is also in the garden and despite some reservations beforehand thanks to other reviewers comments, we found it fully functional and very pleasant at the end of a tiring day.

The location is good, with a short walk to the old town, and plenty of shops and services on the same street. I'd recommend taking advantage of the beauticians, especially the one closest on the opposite side of the street - can't remember the name, but the manicure there lasted two weeks, which for me is about 5 times the usual length!

Overall, whilst there are more plush hotels and cheaper ones, for the mid-range traveller, I'd recommend this one as having the best combination of services for the price.

We stayed here for 7 nights and we loved the hotel! The rooms are nice and cozy. The bathrooms have big bathtubs that are very nice.

The girls at the reception are very nice! They are very helpfull and like to make a conversation with you. For us these girls are a big plus for this hotel.

The hotel is about a 5/10 minutes walk to the old centre. In the street of the hotel you can find a lot of restaurants, tailors etc.

We had a room at the front, so we did hear the traffic. Luckely it's not a really busy street.

Breakfast was ok, not spectacular. Personell are just standing around chatting with eachother.

We had free wi-fi in our room that worked very well! Also they have 4 computers in the lobby to use free of charge.

Two days we had no electricity but altough the hotel has a generator they hardely used it (said it was broken). So no lights, no airconditioning and no wi-fi that days. At night we did have electricity and I think thats the most important.

They say on their website you can pay with creditcard, but that's not possible. There is also no safe in the room.

The garden is very nice. The swimmingpool looked very good to, but we did not use it.

The hotel had a good atmosphere! Employees don't try to sell trips to you.

Everyday we received two big bottles of water and three bananas free of charge.

Nice garden in the back of the hotel and good breakfast options. The room were located in the back of the hotel but we heard all the streetnoise anyway, and all the noise from the reception. The en-suite bathroom has a window with only wooden shades just on the side by the bed. The staff was very young and was sitting by the guest computers every time we passed by.
