“Good hotel but far from 5 stars”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

We've visited quite a few 5 stars hotels in Vietnam and this one doesn't live up to expectations, hop over to Hue and see how it should be done at Best Western guys. Set your expectations accordingly (it's 4 stars at best) and then this hotel fits nicely. The pool was large, the breakfast fine and the beach view unbeatable. There's a free shuttle bus into the center which will make for great dining (Morning Glory, White sail cafe), and the Hoi An city center charm.

It's really not a bad hotel but this should lose a star and reduce prices accordingly.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

We got off to a bad start here. We travelled as a group of 8 ( 3 couples ) so booked 3 double rooms, one twin room and was disappointed to learn on arrival that there was only one double room available. A mix up in their booking system apparently. We were then forced to sit in the lobby for an hour while they discussed how to fix the problem, only to learn that they couldn't move us to double rooms until the fourth day of our stay. By way of compensation they would give us 20% discount of any meals we bought, or free laundry. We were rather tired and grumpy by now, so we accepted the twin rooms and a free meal at the Sands Kitchen restaurant. However by the time we got there there ( approx 8.30pm ) there was very little food left, the salad bowls were empty and we vowed never to come to this restaurant for tea again. Anyway, who would pay 400,000 VND for a second-rate buffet, when there are so many better options in Hoi An at less that half this price ? There are free shuttles, but taxis to Hoi An are very cheap and plentiful right outside the lobby.
I am pleased to say that after our disastrous check-in, the rest of our 6 night stay was great ! The rooms are not brand new, but are good 4-star quality, good size, plenty of hot water, and were always clean / spotless when we returned to our rooms. We were in rooms 1015 - 1017 which are close to the breakfast restaurant, lobby and pool. The breakfast buffet was brilliant, and was voted the best breakfasts of the 4 places we stayed at in Vietnam. Good selection of fruit juices, tea, coffee, toasts, great egg station, pancakes, yoghurts, plenty of pastries, bacon, pretty much anything you could want. We seldom needed much for lunch during our stay. The pool itself was also great, open to 10.00pm, and it is massive with a swim-up bar at each end. Unfortunately, sometimes there were no spare loungers, so we were forced to sit at the swim-up bar for an hour or two, but that's not a bad way to spend a holiday ? Because there were never enough loungers at the pool, we went to the beach most days - it is only a 3 minute walk past the tennis courts, and we always found 6 - 8 loungers and umbrellas there. The beach itself was great, warm with gentle waves, although sometimes it did get a little bit choppy in the late afternoons. The only thing wrong with the beach is that there is no food / drink service there, you need to walk back to the swimming Pool to get drinks. The staff only seemed to man 1 Pool Bar at a time, we waited an hour at the far swim up bar one day, but there was only a guy handing out towels, but no-one to serve behind the bar. The other good news is no mosquitos at Cua Dai ! We didn't really appreciate this until we got to Nha Trang - there are heaps there !
We looked at several other resorts while we were at Cua Dai, but we were certainly pleased that we chose Swiss Belhotel Golden Sands - it is just so much more spacious, looks really beautiful at night when the lights around the pool are lit up. Also it is great value for money, especially if you get the "Stay 6 pay 4 days Special". We would happily say here again.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for non smoking room. Some rooms have a smoky smell, they try to disguise it with an oil b...

Recently spent a week at the Golden Sands and found it to be perfect for our needs. Its interesting to read some very mixed reviews on Golden Sands and I feel some people must never be satisfied. We found it to be a perfect place to stay for a week for a bit of rest and relaxation after a week in Hanoi and Hue.The resort boasts one of the best pools I have seen and it was always clean and well kept. Our room was a garden view room and although the view for 2days was of workers renovating the garden it was a very spacious clean and well cleaned room. The restaurants are all very good with a wide variety to choose from, although we like most others would head off into Hoi An at night for some shopping and visit one of the many good and cheap restaurants. The staff especially at reception were always smiling and helpful and the resort was really clean and well maintained. The bus service is great although you need to book a day in advance, however a taxi that is always waiting is only $5:00 into town. We may not return to Hanoi and Ho CHi Min City again but will certainly return one day to Hoi An and to Golden Sands Resort

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

We had a family stay at the Golden Sands for 8 days June/July2013 and had a fabulous time.
The hotel itself is a little dated and to call it a 5 star is a bit generous. Wifi coverage and operation was a bit flakey. The hotel has a reasonable gym and a fabulous pool area with volley ball net that provided much entertainment for many a guest.

Dinner at the hotel is good with reasonable variety but a little pricy by Hoi An standards. We found ourselves dining in Hoi An many a night. Breakfast is reasonably extensive but a bit un-inspiring by day 8.

The rooms themselves were nice and particularly the beds/mattresses were of good quality.

What really made this trip memorable are the staff and I fondly remember and miss them all (trying to teach me Vietnamese). Nothing was too much effort at the reception desk (The Phuongs, Shyn, Lien, Hiep, Ha, Hoa, the tour desk (Van), the "scentuous" spa (Drang, Ha, Lem and Tien), bell boys & security. Could not have asked for more!

Will happily return to the Golden Sands but would scout for a special.

Room Tip: We hired 3 rooms and all were similar "business suites". Access to the beach is at the Nor...

Really mixed this review. Reception staff very accommodating, food was fine ( buffet breakfast very average), Vietnamese meals good, but service and staff really poor. The pool is amazing, but they are a bit pedantic when it comes to towels and don't expect any service what so ever outside.Every other beach bed and table was broken. There is no beach as such, but they have a nice sandy man made area with good shades and wonderful views, but to swim in the ocean you have to walk to the side of the resort and go to a relatively unclean beach area. ( But why would you with a pool this big).
The rooms...oh dear..... well appointed but you can smell the mould when you walk in and it is visible all over the bathroom and over the walls on the room (certainly the 4 that our group occupied). When we showered, the water went through the wall and appeared behind the mirror in the bedroom! The mattresses are the firmest i have every felt.

This is an ok place to stay for a night or 2 to visit Hoi An, but if you are thinking of chilling for more than that I would look a bit further north at Furama or Fusion etc etc.

My teenage sons and I have just spent 6 nights at this resort and it was the biggest disappointment during an overall fantastic holiday in Vietnam. The resort looks wonderful on arrival with a beautiful lobby area. However we were unimpressed with every other aspect. We were initially given a room with a lingering smell of cigarettes. The walls looked like they hadn't been painted in years, the tiles in the bathroom were cracked and mouldy. We were given a slightly better room after I complained, which was clean but just average. The staff were generally unhelpful. I had to chase the them for coffee at breakfast and was never offered a second cup. They seem poorly trained and not very welcoming. The breakfast buffet is well below average. The whole place looks tired and needs a good refurbishment. The sun beds around the pool were in disrepair, if you can get one. There is a small, untidy area on the side where you can have a swim in the sea but it could do with some major renovation, otherwise there is no access to the beach.

Big hotel, but not much service. The room was ok , we had a garden view room which was central and quiet. We had a few issues with the room but admittedly they came and fixed them promptly. The pool area is very nice with beautiful views over the bay.
Note. There is No beach in front of the hotel as it was swept away in a storm last year only rocks but you don't have to walk that far to get to the beach. I know some people were disappointed with this.
The service was less than average with language being the main barrier even on the tour desk.
Breakfast was definitely below par for a 5 star.
I noticed room service trays outside rooms in evening before bed and they were still there before and after breakfast the next morning.

Room Tip: Our bed was ok not great. We were happy in garden room as it was quiet.
