“Really nice breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

Nice place! One of the better Vietnamese breakfast´s we´ve experienced in our almost 2 year stay in Viet Nam. We also had lunch and it was ok, but not as good as breakfast. Dinner we had in town so I can´t say anything about it. According to me, the Vietnamese chefs seems to use to little salt but at this hotel they seasoned the food really well. (Maybe the food standard was the way it was because almost every guest was from Europe/America/Australia. We like it in a certain way...)

The atmosphere was very relaxed and you could always find a sundeck chair by the beach/pool. Bear in mind that the beach in front of the hotel is gone. The sea has washed it away and there is just a 300 m beach left south of the hotel compound. That little leftover beach was not the nicest.

They have also a kid´s pool. It was great with small slides and showers etc. If you have kids up to, lets say 6 years old, its perfect.

If I have to say anything negative about the place it must be about cleanliness. They seem to never clean under the beds. We had two rooms and it was the same in both. We found old flip flop´s, several tissues and other trash amongst all the dust. The fabric on benches and chairs was also really dirty with big stains. Some of the stains looked like blood.

(And maybe they need to refurbish the rooms in near future.)

But, in all, it is a really nice
hotel.

All the good service, good food and nice cocktails can not make up for the beaten, old mattress that I had to sleep on.
I can put up with the standard, hard, foam mattress that most South East Asian hotels use, however, this was a whole other ball game. My lower back was literally lower to the ground than my upper back, with a plank of wood or springs or something odd digging into my mid section.
Thinking they had mistakenly given me a mattress from the 1820s, I walked to reception to alert them to the issues with the mattress. The receptionist was very kind and said they would replace the mattress.
Since it was my honeymoon, I thought the least they could do was upgrade our room for a bed that we could lay on without sinking in the middle, but I didn't want to be rude, so kept this to myself.
Instead, Housekeeping arrived with a feathery, fluffy quilt to place on top of the old mattress to try to soften the dents and odd hard spots that were digging into our back. This was not successful and did not impress.
Nice layout of hotel, nice pool, nice staff BUT horrible beds. Either book this hotel and pray that they give you a good bed (if they exist), or be ready to get no sleep and leave with back issues.
Do check out similar previous reviews on TA, that I wish I had read, before booking this...

For a hotel that is currently promoting itself as 5 star (4,5 star on some places) it has a long, and I mean very long way to go, on certain fronts.
As a frequent traveler living in Vietnam for almost 1 year, working in the hospitality industry myself, I have seen hotels varying from superb 3 stars to failing 5 stars as these. To sum-up what was good and bad.

Cons:
- There is no beach, although widely promoted on the internet and booking websites there is no beach, only a strip of sand but certainly not the nice pictures you can find online - would be nice if that was communicated;
- The shower/bathtub combination is a insult, it is a heavily outdated "shower-head" that is stuck to the wall as you can find in locker rooms;
- The shower curtain, at least in room 2004, has a line of black mold on the bottom;
- Regarding food, although highly subjective, is disappointing:
-> Sands kitchen = good quality but not adventurous enough in menu
-> Sands White Orchid = adventurous but of terrible quality
-> Room service quality was so low I took 2 bites of my sandwich and left the rest untouched
Some service trouble I ran into:
- The Sands fun pub is more a staff hang-out after dinner (19:30 till 21:00);
- What insulted me most, the Sands fun pub staff (not knowing that I understand a good word of Vietnamese) was making fun of me after I asked for the bill in their native tongue - making this review go from average to poor and me unlikely to ever return to any location of Swiss Belhotel;
- Some of the pool service staff were not very attentive (one was, fortunate)
- In both restaurants dining etiquette's are not followed, the staff is friendly and helpful but they simply do not know the proper etiquette's;
- I experienced most of the front office girls very unwelcoming
And in general you can feel that Swiss Belhotel recently took over the Golden Sand resort, it has a kind of weird vibe.

Of course there were also some upsides during my stay and it would be unfair not to mention them.
- Excellent room service, superior to that what I have seen in many highly reputed hotels.
- Rooms are spacious and have a wonderful minibar set-up and all aminities
- Spa is phenomenal and should certainly be tried
- The pool is great and the entire resort looks in a good shape
- 75% of the staff is very friendly, hard working and speaks sufficient English (unique in Vietnam)

We found ourselves here at the end of a 3 month trip through Vietnam. And what a nice find it was!! From the guys at the pool to Phuoy the restaurant manager. The staff was lovely, and oh so helpful. The food was good the service was great and Thanks so much to David the GM. We truly enjoyed our stay here. The room was very nice and well equipped. Clean as could be too! We would definitely stay here again given the chance. It is a bit off the beaten track but the location for us made it a good choice.

From the moment of our arrival at the airport the shuttle staff of this hotel met us with cold towels and cookies and cold water. It was a refreshing welcome and a fine gesture of hospitality. A leisurely drive to the resort showed us the nearby sites of Da Nang and the famous Marble Mountain. Upon reaching the hotel, we were again greeted by Chris, the Assistant Manager and his Team and were provided with cold towels and a refreshing fruit drink. Our poolside, garden view room is most comfortable with a spacious living area as well as a balcony. Not only are the beds comfortable but there is both a shower and a bathtub. The housekeeping is impeccable and the towel service twice a day is greatly appreciated. The nearby spa provides relaxing amenities like a massage, a facial, manicure, pedicure or hair cut/style. The three resturants, Italian, Vietnamese and International provide delicious cuisine artfully presented. The daily breakfast buffet is one like none other in its variety of food and its attentive service. The friendly staff go above and beyond the call of duty to meet your every need. The decor and the music throughout the hotel provide a relaxing atmosphere. This is definitely the place to kick back, unwind and enjoy a pampering holiday. A huge pool with great beverage and food service is excelllent as well. This is our second time to stay at this hotel and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a superb place to stay. Thank you to all who have made our ten day stay a memorable, comfortable one.

Room Tip: We have been in three different types of rooms and all are excellent.
