“Small and friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

We stayed here last month ,it was the 4th time .we really like it cause it isn't a huge resort but a fairly small friendly hotel .the rooms are a good size ,a little bumped about in place but to be honest it is fine . Breakie is always yummy with a buffet of delights that you can have while sitting out beside the pool . It is only a short still into the old quarter which we enjoy cause you get to enjoy wandering through the street of HoiAn taking it all in .lots of places to eat are only meters away .

The exterior of the hotel is lovely but can't say the same about the room. The bathroom door is broken and the water heater didn't work well. The bathroom is very dim, because there is only light bulb at the basin. The bathtub is badly designed - need to be very careful when you are climbing out of the tub because it is too high. The metal parts in the basin (the drainage) are rusty. Overall, not a nice experience to use the bathroom.

Also the hotel didn't provide any complimentary water. They charged us for the local mineral water (not evian or Perrier) which i consider being too petty. Also service was bad, they came after us for more money, when we were leaving. They claimed that they omitted some charges in our bill.

Even though the room is not very pleasant, the breakfast is superb. The pho bo and the steamed flour wrap with veg were very tasty. The local seasonal fruits served are fresh. I think the high quality breakfast is due to the fact that this hotel is owned by Ms Vy which owns Morning Glory and a few other very popular restaurants. Ms Vy will need to bring the standard of her hotel up to align it closer to her restaurants.

This hotel is slightly away from the main tourist area, about 5 minute walk. The staff at the hotel was very friendly and some of them spoke passable English. The rooms were big(ish) and the bathroom was also of a good size. The rooms were clean and neat, as was the whole hotel. There were free wireless available and a pool, in the courtyard next to the outdoor restaurant.

Breakfast was reasonable, especially compared to standard breakfasts in Vietnam, and is of the buffet style so volume is not an issue. There was a laundry +- 100 meters away. All of the rooms were away from the street and so were nice and quite.

There were bicycle rentals just across the street and they also provide a guide if needed. ATM's are scarce and only found in the old town as were the money exchanges, don't use the hotel for money exchange but rather shop around town.

Although the hotel's website is way over the top artistically, the actual experience of this place was above expectations. My room, on the ground floor near the lobby, was quiet and comfortable. The pool and breakfast/lounge area were relaxing and a good place to get away from the room and the street noise. Breakfast was above average with eggs cooked to order. Staff was excellent and helpful.

Although Cua Dai is a longer walk from the center of town than other places, it i still near restaurants and services. The NA Spa (?) across the street is cheap ($18 an hour) and very competent.

We had four nights at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it, very warm welcome, helpful staff to highlight places of interest, the room was very clean and always lovely and chilled as the air con stayed on. My boyfriend wasn't keen on the bacon and sausage at breakfast but we had fresh croissants and pancakes which were very lovely. We used the laundry opposite the hotel on the street, it was reasonable and ready the next day, it was cheaper for us to do it by the kilo rather than per item which is how the hotel manage laundry for customers.

Check out Cargo patisserie and restaurant, the cakes are amazing. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: We were facing the road but slept easily, you may wish to face the pool which is at the back of the...

This hotel has a real French Colonial feel to it, it is a bit like taking a trip back in time, but with all the modern day comforts. We stayed in the 'suites' overlooking the pool area on the ground floor; you can literally walk out the door to breakfast or the pool. The rooms consisted of a bedroom, sitting room area, and bathroom. Our rooms were immaculate. There is also quite good Wi-Fi available throughout the hotel. The only down side of the rooms was that there was no safe in either room, however we had no problems with anything going missing, even when leaving the suitcase open. The staff are extremely helpful, they will get supplies from the shop for you if you need anything at all. The breakfast was great a mixture of continental and traditional cuisine. The pool is surrounded by a well-kept garden that is full of tropical plants. The hotel has a menu you can order from during the day, however the food is brought out from its sister restaurant The Mermaid Restaurant in the town, and although very nice, don't expect it to be piping hot.
It is situated outside the town, but you will walk to the old town in about 10-15 minutes (we had a buggy with us), to get to the beach the staff will call a cab for you, as it is 7-8 minute drive. To get back any of the restaurants along the beach will get you a cab (as with everywhere in Vietnam make sure you have a driver with a meter and that it is turned on before you take the cab). We ate in a couple of these little restaurants which look a little run down, but the food was surprisingly good. If you agree to eat there later, they will allow you the use of their sun loungers for the day, and I would recommend getting chilled coconut juice in the coconut from one of them.
There are a number of nice restaurants in the town, especially in the old town and I would highly recommend going to the Mango Rooms (11 Nguyen Thai Hoc), the food was excellent, and they have a very nice cocktail list as well. If you can go there by night you will have the advantage of seeing the lanterns lighting in the street beside it where all the lantern vendors are.
We got clothes made in Bi Bi silk 13 Phan Chu Trinh St. We had been to about 7 other tailors, and she was about half the price. Also if they don’t have a fabric you like she will tell you the amount of fabric you need for the items you want and you can go to the market down around the corner and pick from an endless selection of fabric.

Room Tip: Take a room leading out onto the pool area
