“The best place to start in Vietnan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

The taxi down from Denang was one of the most electrifying experiences of my life. Having only ever encountered roads that actually had rules to keep people safe, I found myself quite edgy as the taxi driver nonchalantly meandered through the chaos.
Apon arriving at Vinh Hung #5 we were greeted by friendly staff. The rooms were clean and beautifully presented. Set on the river and overlooking the pool, it was a extremely pleasant and relaxing base to explore Hoi An from. Across the road you can hire a bicycle and if you dare a scooter, there are no end of food and shopping options within a short walk.
If you just want to stay in, you have the day spa, with Thai, Swedish and Asian massages , and a range of options for the ladies to pamper themselves with from head to toe. There is also a gym of sorts, with a few weights and a couple of treadmills.
The restaurant serves a buffet breakfast and a good choice off the menu for lunch and dinner. Happy hour each day with cocktails from the pool bar, for the price of a can of coke. All in all a very nice place to stay and start our Vietnam experience.

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms opened out to the pool area.

The term 'pool view room' must be used loosely, as our pool view room was directly opposite the restaurant. The rooms were clean and more modern than some, though our double room contained two king singles pushed together. Some staff were quite unhelpful and somewhat rude, however on other days the staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful. The resort is in a good location and is very quiet with a great view of the river. Breakfast was great and the menu changed daily, which was nice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper floor and ensure the pool view room has a view of the pool!

I stayed in a deluxe pool view room for two nights. Booked online and took advantage of 20% off rate with a 45 minutes free excursion boat ride and breakfast each morning. Great value for money.
Wifi is provided free both public area and guest rooms. Wifi is very strong and stable...no problem to use skype, though it's not required password...so there is a little security concern. The resort is not big (52 rooms total), but has a large pool in the center courtyard facing to the river.
The restaurant has both inside and outside seating area. Buffet breakfast has both western and local dishes....good breakfast but there is room to improve. I had a good ham/cheese omelette.
The room #203 where I stayed was on the ground floor facing to the pool. It's good size room with a king bed w/two night stands, console table type desk w/chair attached to the wall and one-seater sofa.
Note; Bed mattress is a typical South Asian style – very very firm.
Also, provided a mini fridge, a wall mounted air-con, a electric kettle and safe. Several teabags and instant coffees are also provided.
The bathroom has a small sink, toilet and pretty big shower booth (no tub) with very good water pressure. The hotel supplies all necessary bath amenities like two each bath towels, hand towels, washcloths, shampoo, shower gel and two soaps. Though soaps are very small and no body lotions provided.
All staff are very efficient and have can-do attitudes.
Definitely come back to this resort.

Room Tip: upper floor pool view rooms

The Emerald Hotel in Hoi An was amazing. Phi and cam were our bartenders at the pool and they were also incredible. They made us the best drinks throughout our stay, keeping us entertained along the way. The hotels staff was amazing and took care of us the entire time. We recommend Phi, Cam and the whole emerald hotel to any visitor, as it did nothing but enhance our relaxing visit to the wonderful city of Hoi An.

We love Hoi An and it was fantastic staying at Emerald Resort for its location in old town Hoi An and also staff who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable.

The General Manager and his staff should be commended for the wonderful service. While we out one day the fridge in our room stopped working. Our baby was on antibiotics which required refrigeration and by the time we came to give him his dose in the evening we found it warm. We spoke to the GM Mr Truong who was very apologetic. He spent several hours calling around all off Hoi An and surrounding towns to try to locate replacement antibiotics for our baby (no easy feat as it was not a common one prescribed in Vietnam). He finally found one at the hospital and sent one of his staff out that evening to collect it by motorbike.

There were also other issues with the Typhoon hitting central north Vietnam just as we were due travel there. Both us and the staff at Emerald Resort tried contacting Vietnam Airlines (most unhelpful and rude airline we have ever come across) for more information and attempted to schedule and rebook new flights for us (at additional cost but it didn't matter). Vietnam airlines made things so difficult and we didn't end up anywhere with them and jumped online and just bought new tickets via Jetstar. Mr Truong heard about it from one of his staff and personally called the manager of the airline to complain on our behalf.

We were very comfortable staying at this hotel and found it fantastic value for money.

I would personally recommend getting a pool view room rather than islet view and also second floor rather than ground floor.

Food at the hotel restaurant needs improvement.

I would not recommend going to the "beauty salon" at the resort. Overpriced and totally unprofessional. I was the only customer there at the time and the three ladies working there just had a full on gossip session in Vietnamese while I was getting my treatment. The one massaging me stopped several times to butt in the conversation. They spilt things, left things on the floor and used one of the manicure cuticle pushers to scrape things off the floor! Then one of the girls sat on the pedicure chair, hooked here feet up and started using the tool to pick stuff from in between her toe nails. The other one squeezed her pimples and pulled out a razor and started shaving her face in front of the mirror (?!!!!). To top it off, a customer came it to complain about the wonky eyebrows the salon had tattooed in her earlier that day! I did not leave the salon feeling relaxed and pampered.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel during out honeymoon and it is one of the best hotels we have ever been to and definitely the best value. The room was clean, spacious and our balcony overlooked the lovely pool. The breakfast buffet offered something for everyone and the pool bar had excellent cocktails and service. Hoi An is a short walk but you feel secluded enough from the noisy, fun bars by the river. Cannot speak highly enough of the Emerald Resort and wish we could have stayed longer the three nights.
