We arrived here via Ho Chi Min City, and at Da Nang airport we were met with a very friendly driver from the riverside whom we had pre-booked earlier, and just to see his cheery smile holding up my name put us both at ease right away his name was Nguyen. On the way this guy chatted non stop about his country and the places we passed which summed him up and was a credit to his company along with his other fellow drivers. !
From the very friendly speedy, girls on reception to the guys taking care of our luggage, it couldn't have been easier i even got a polite wag of the finger for attempting to pick up a suitcase, as you don't see your luggage until you arrive in your room now that's what i call service. I had asked for a room over looking the river and what i got didn't disappoint, a lovely clean spacious room with all the basic mod cons including a large bowl of fruit, and a well stocked mini bar to match which went down a treat. There is also a very large bathroom and a shower which is a honeymooners dream as there is ample room for two..????
The view also from my balcony on the second floor was awesome as you could sit with a cold drink whilst watching fishermen casting their nets in the river below, and behind them the local people toiling in the paddy fields complete with water buffaloes. And to really set the scene one could watch the sun setting right over the river, for a view like this comes only once in a while and it really is relaxing to say the least..!
As for the rest of the resort which is set in it's own tropical gardens with little ponds it came across as very clean with everyone smiling and saying hello, the swimming pool was also clean with plenty of sun loungers etc, and if you wanted something to drink/eat no problem just ask the friendly waiters. Breakfast was really good too with plenty of variety in fact everything from a three course meal to omelette's and much fresh fruits and so on, and all this consumed whilst sitting with a brilliant view over the river watching the army of ducks waddling along the river bank quacking loudly, in fact this was a regular sight both at morning & at sunset which really set the rural feeling here, a truly peaceful setting. The evening meals were also pretty good here too if a little more expensive than down at Hoi An it's self, but in all honesty it wasn't that expensive by Western standards, we ate several times here and were not disappointed by the menu I even tried their fish in banana leaf which was very tasty indeed. There are also many restaurants outside the main gates either left or right and it's you're choice and by all accounts are quite cheap and within walking distance.!
I have also read that some reviewers were not happy here regarding insects, smells etc, what i don't understand is how some people expect to come to a tropical setting like this and not expect to see insects or even experiance some bad smells, we had a lizard in our room to which i didn't mind as it was eating the bad bugs and never bothered us, we had also ants outside which by using some common sense and by putting some sugar down in a far corner of the balcony meant the said ants spent all their time there, problem solved trust me.! As for smells try camping in a Masai Mari village for a few days as we have in the past, remember you ARE in a HOT tropical climate here folks. As we were spending 9 nights here we got to know the routine pretty well regarding the shuttle buses and they run about three times a day down to Hoi An and to the beach the last bus leaving the town about 21.30 which is when everything is shutting down anyway, or you can always get a taxi from reception and costs around 50,000 dong or £1.80 or $2 which is nothing, Going on to the Internet which i tried and gave up due to Hotmail not being really accepted here for some reason, to be honest i wasn't really that bothered as it was so slow anyway. As for laundry there is a little laundrette called " Mrs Ha" just outside the gates turn left and about 100 yards there she is, and she takes about two dollars a kilo which is quite good.
Going back to the friendly staff here and one example was when i bought some fragile bamboo model sampan boats and as i had no box, i asked one of the maintenance guys if he could help me out, he returned some time later with them practically gift wrapped in a sturdy box for me, now thats what i call service and he was a credit to this resort.! If I'm being honest i can truthfully say we enjoyed our stay here immensely and would i stay here again absolutely yes as we had no problems at all. A special mention must also go to the friendly girls on reception whose names are NA & TH'AO and the other girl who took our picture her name escapes me, but they were so friendly & professional and a credit to the resort and made our stay so enjoyable like everyone else did. So give this resort a chance if you want a slice of the real Vietnam you won't regret it..!
