“Hello management?... Hello?... Anybody there??”
BLAN homestay offers a very rare kind and remarkable stay in Hoi An. It seems to lack any kind of management or presence of owners. Never saw anybody responsible during 4 days stay. Yes, it is possible. The maid (at least I think she is) was the only one present sometimes.
Caught here a sleep (5 times) most of the time.. She speaks as little English as I speak Vietnamese so communication is a ‘challenge’. Which is fun in the beginning, but it gets annoying if you need advice or help or if you want to book something. The room was never cleaned during our stay!
No fresh towels, no new toilet paper (luckily there was enough) each time you wanted to contact somebody about this, you could not find anybody. The place seemed like a ghost house, empty and silent. Except sometimes the boyfriend of the maid / annex housekeeper was watching TV. Correctly guessed, this bloke didn’t speak a word of English and has only got eyes for the TV. Very helpful. No info provided upon arrival. Dumped into room (the room and house itself is perfect!). Even locked into the property on first night. It’s easy to figure out what key goes into what lock inside and outside, but some info would have been minimal. Asking to make a local telephone call was too difficult to achieve. No problem a couple of doors further at a friendly neighbor though. Also as stated in the accommodation info, not every room has got a (peace of) garden or private terrace. And the beds are rockhard. The garden present does not offer you any kind of seating or relaxing. And all this is quite strange if you look at the prizes this homestay serves you. If not booked with a very attractive discount – hooray for some searching on the internet – this would have been a very disappointing stay. And that’s a sad thing, as the accommodation and location are perfect. It could be a true gem! If you travel through Asia for a long time, you experience far worse accommodations but here the owners make the difference! Helping where needed providing info, living there hotel/guesthouse dream, going for gold. This seems to be the other way around. The property is good, so we do not need to look after it anymore. But the management needs to act upon this. Step up and improve, to make it a proper homestay, I think you’re doing it wrong this way. No recommendation for this place.
