“A relaxing stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

Half way between the old town and the beach, my parents and husband rested for three nights at Botanic Garden Homestay.
We stayed in the Super Deluxe Bungalow and it was beautiful. The bungalow is clean, although smaller than they look in the pictures.

The pool was small but adequate. It only had two sun loungers for the entire homestay and you have to balance your way around the edge of the pool to get there.

Location is ok, if you cannot decide between beach or town this is perfect distance between the two. It is quite a walk to the both, though doable. If you ride a bike their complimentary bicycle hire is a great way to get around.

Breakfast was good, though nothing exceptional. A choice of eggs and baguette/toast. Fruit is served and option of cereal.
The staff were always very welcoming and asking how our day went, making that extra effort. They did try to send us to one of their friend's tailors but this is so common in Hoi An it didn't bother us too much.

A restaurant to try nearby is Vina Ngon, which has incredible food at a decent price (try her cooking class too- my mum and I loved it!)

If you have budget, go for it.

We appreciated staying in a quiet residential area, away from the many tourists, restaurants and shops and, most importantly, away from the main road where the motorbike horns sound continuously. There are however some small shops and several restaurants nearby so if you don't wish to go into town to eat, you don't have to.
We liked our bungalow (Pansy) because it was surrounded by orchids and plants, and seemed the most private one in the garden. The furnishings are beautiful and both the bedroom and living room were spacious and light. Breakfasts were lovely, and the staff were extremely helpful and eager to please. Being able to use the reception pc to check mails and taking the free bicycles made life very easy.
Despite the mouldy smell in our bedroom and lounge, we enjoyed our four nights here. The smell is mainly due to lack of ventilation (no window, no fan) in the en-suite bathroom. The staff made some improvements for us whilst we were there, and they were keen to take note of our suggestions on how to make the lovely bungalows smell fresh again. If they take the necessary action, staying in a Botanic Garden bungalow will be an even greater pleasure.

Room Tip: A bungalow is more spacious, as it has a separate living room.

We stayed for 2 nights at the Botanic Garden Homestay. Wouldn't recommend staying there if you have asthma or if you just prefer to sleep in a resonably clean air.

The first night we were given a small room ext to the reception/breakfast area, which had a severe mouldy smell stemming from the bathroom, which had no ventilation or windows.

The next day (without us saying anything about the smell or the shouting), we were asked if we wanted to move to another room, in a brand new building, which we accepted. This room was much more luxurious than the first one, but again there was no ventilation in the bathroom, which gave a clammy feel and strange smell in the bed room too - even though we opened all windows for app. an hour before sleeping in order to get in fresh air.

We had breakfast once, and the food was ok, but unfortunately the cutlery and cups were rather unclean.

The place does provide bicycles for free, which is great for a ride to the beach (app. 30 min.) or downtown (app. 10 min). Walking distance to the old city is app. 25 min.

This place is extremely friendly..the staff is brilliant..always a smile..always helpful the location of the hotel is excellent!! Using the free cycles u can reach the beach or the town in like 10 mins..

Coming to the rooms..very clean, comfortable bedding with all the necessary amenities! They were undergoing some renovation at that time so I guess it will only get better in the future!

Excellent choice in hoi an!

Very nice and comfortable place when traveling with children. The bungalows are very spacious and nicely decorated, big flat screen tv's in every room. They have good baby cots. The only remark we have about the rooms is that they are quite moist. The garden is nice although it is not as big as we expected, I think part of it has been sacrificed for some newly built apartments. Also the small pool is now a bit perched between two bungalows. But these are just some small shortcomings that you forget about due to the friendliness of the staff. They were especially attentive towards our children of 1 and 4 years old. Kids had a really great stay thanks to all the attention, hugs and kisses that they received from the staff. Free bikes were nice. Right after we arrived the owner set out to buy a child seat for the bike. It's a very enjoyable bike ride to town and to the beach. Some good restaurants quite close by are Red Dragon (on the way to the beach) and Dingo Deli with a great playground for children. Overall we had a great week here thanks to the staff.

The Botanic Gardens has just undergone a major upgrade and the finishing touches were still in progress when we arrived.
We had one of the renovated villas with a separate bedroom, there are also studio flats and
2 bedroomed villas available.
A small swimming pool nestles in between 2 of the dwellings.
The furnishings are of a good standard, and the bed was comfortable.
Our apartment had tv in the lounge as well as in the bedroom, water boiler, air conditioning,
a ceiling fan in the lounge, plus a refrigerator with stocked minibar.
The place was spotless and spotlessly cleaned every day.
The semitiled en-suite bathroom had a marble bath tub with a huge shower head,
The position of this homestay is perfect, roughly halfway between town and beach
and in a side road away from the main throughfare and its continual horn honking.
There are free cycles, and as most of the traffic is mopeds it was easy to get around,
Just approx 20 mins either way.
The staff at Botanic Gardens are mega friendly and go out of their way to be helpful and of service. The young receptionists spoke reasonably good English.
The breakfast was good with a menu to choose from.
On Christmas Eve the Owner invited all the guests to dinner,
we were able to sample Vietnamese cusine as well as lashings of Vietnamese wine.
A memorable evening where we were treated more like friends than guests.
The Botanic Gardens is a great place to stay and with a lovely
friendly staff that will really make you feel at home.

Room Tip: For a couple the studios or deluxe are ideal,a larger family would need the bungalow which has 2 bed...

Arrived with 3 young children, paying $100 a night. It was a construction site, no alternative or compensation offered. Had to find alternative accommodation which turned out to be a lot better value. Carpet was mouldy, then after the 2 days they charged us the wotif commission of $70 ?? After their mistake. It is all about the money here. There are better places to stay, especially if you have children.
