“Great Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

I was in Hoi An in December and ate at White Lotus three times, each time receiving exceptional food and friendly service. The mango lassi's are tasty, the tofu was delicious and the chicken in claypot with ginger is out of this world. The menu also had a good selection of Western food, lots of drinks and White Lotus also offers kid-friendly food (simple sandwiches etc).

The best experience I had a White Lotus was doing the cooking class they offer. For a very agreeable price, we got to visit the market and learn about the products and foods used in each dish (dishes that we had chosen ourselves from the list that White Lotus provided us with!), learn how to make the dishes from a very capable White Lotus chef and then we got to dine on our creations! We chose 3 dishes to make, and by far the standout was the chicken in claypot with ginger - delicious! We even got a boat ride from the market back to the restaurant - bonus!

I would definitely recommend White Lotus to other travelers - you'll get great food and service, and whats more, all the proceeds go to charity!

“Only go here for the cause, not the food.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013 via mobile

While the cause that this restraunt supports is all good and nice, this is tripadvisor restraunts review after all - not a charity review.

This place is completely overrated, the food is extremely average and the service is lacking.

We ordered from the recommendations menu and what we received was two dishes with pretty much the same, oily and over saturated taste. We thought the food was coated with MSG and the sauce was very average. The spring rolls we had were deep fried from the freezer as well and didn't taste much better.

Not to mention, it was all overpriced for what you got.

If you want to come here for the cause, I'd suggest you go there and donate some money then head to miss ly's for a much much better dinner.

“Lovely food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

We had a lovely meal and were very happy with the service. We had a mixed hot pot for two and my daughters had other claypot meals, and they were all fantastic and all though slightly higher in price than some other places, we felt that the quality warranted this. One of the lovely ladies there was intrigued with my daughters braces and brought her own daughter to have a look. She asked me how much it had all cost but I was far too embarressed to tell her so I deflected the question. All in all it was a very positive visit and I would recommend to others. They also do a cooking school which I wish we had had time to join....next time.

“Great food and a good cause”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

My partner and I have spent a week in Hoi An and ate here on three occasions. The food is excellent, we particularly recommend the mixed seafood plate - cooked at your table. The prices are very reasonable (meal for two and a bottle of Vietnamese wine is around $20 US) and the restaurant is run for a good cause - linked to an Indochina development project. All profits from this well run restaurant go development projects in Vietnam and Cambodia. Do yourself and Vietnamese/ Camodian people a favour and visit this lovely restaurant at least once in your time in Hoi An!

“Wouldn't go back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

We went to the White Lotus because of the great reviews on trip advisor and were both very disappointed. The rice was cold, the garlic bread a piece of artificial cheese on white bread and my Vegeterian meal very boring. While we were eating we got heckled by locals selling goods three times, which is not something you expect a restaurant to allow while their customers are eating. The only positive about the restaurant is the good cause they support. Definitely would not go back or recommend to other travellers.
