“very quiet place in beautiful scenery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

We also arrived right after the typhoon had hit the area. The staff was cleaning up and managed to accommodate us as if nothing ever happened! Our room was spacious and simply beautiful.

Everything was very clean and housekeeping dropped by every evening to see if we needed more towels and handed us a vietnamese narrative to read before going to bed. Very nice!

We also found the prices for their services quite extravagant (airport shuttle, restaurant prices...) and therefore decided to simply ride bikes to the beach and have dinner in the city center.

The shuttle service to the city worked very well and the drivers were super friendly!

In total: very nice hotel in beautiful surroundings.

We arrived the day after Typhoon Nari made her way through the province. We were assured everything would be ok for our visit, and it was. There was a large cleanup underway removing fallen trees and branches, at the resort and throughout the town and district.
We were picked up from DaNang airport as arranged and were greeted at the hotel with a fresh juice and hand towel. Our room was clean and fresh, but a little dark. Wifi was intermittent, and we had use of a laptop.

We used the shuttle bus to town a couple of times, and used the bikes to ride around the charming village lanes. We saw buffaloes, storks, butterflies, chickens and dogs on the roads, and also found a rowboat ride through the drowned coconut forest. We loved being there!
Breakfast was fresh and we ate in the retaurant each night. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The staff arranged a driver to take us to Marble Mtn and the airport which was great.
We were only there for 3 days - would have loved to be there longer!

Booked 2 nights after reading a review on TA & ended up staying 5. It is out of Hoi An but only by 10-15 min drive & the advantage to this is it is very peaceful, quiet & cheaper than staying in town. Try & get a downstairs Delux garden view room as the lush gardens that are right outside your room create a private area to sit & have your evening drinks. Although the pool & spa are only meters away it remains private for all . The shower is outside ( totally private) & inside a beautiful granite bath. The beds are hard, very hard, but walk & swim enough & you will sleep. The rate was special due to the typhoon ($58) but still much cheaper than staying in town. We had meals with many other travellers in Hoi An & this accommodation seemed to very good in comparison (either due to cost, noise & smell). I will be back here again.

I found the Ancient House River to be quite a mixed bag experience. The location of the hotel is out of town, but we liked the quiet, more rural location compared to the busyness of Hoi An centre. The shuttle bus runs every couple of hours into the town and to the beach and so as long as you plan your day around the bus times then this is a convenient way of getting to these places and the location of the hotel is not really an issue. The last shuttle comes back from the town at 9:30pm, but almost the whole of Hoi An is already closed and asleep by this time anyway so this was not an issue. Alternatively, there are free bicycles to use - around a 25 minute comfortable cycle to either the town or beach, the roads are not busy or dangerous to cycle on during the day and you get to enjoy the views of the farmers and farm animals.
The rooms are of a high standard. However, upon running a bath for 20 minutes on the first night, I realised the large bath had a leak (likely the plug) and not only would the bath not fill more than a third but also all of the hot water had been used up and I wasn't then even able to have a hot shower. A maintenance engineer was sent to the room but could do nothing. We were assigned a new room the following morning, something which could have been offered the night before. Also a word of warning - the open shower area is VERY slippery after use.
The staff were not on the same level as we had experienced in the rest of Vietnam and lacked the personal touch. At times they seemed friendly-ish, but at other times uninterested. With only 4 people occupying 3 tables at breakfast and a total of 5 members of restaurant staff working, they all seemed more interested in chatting to each other or doing their own things rather than serving their clients. The food at breakfast is average and the selection from the buffet is limited and not that of a 4 star hotel.
The pool area is comfortable and clean. The gardens, particularly around the pathways, were overgrowing - we didn't expect to have plants wrapping themselves around us in order to get to the room.
The cost of the spa facilities, tours and airport transfers from the hotel are just outrageous for Vietnam, compared to the cost of using other local operators - $25 for an airport transfer to Danang through the hotel compared to $8 or less with a local company.
Overall it was not an unpleasant experience by any means, but there are numerous things that could be improved and if done so this could be a special hotel rather than an average one.

We only stayed one might. My biggest regret is that we didn't stay one more. It's a lovely chilled out hotel, the rooms are spacious, and the bathroom was huge. my only complaint was a small one, when my wife went to have a bath in the massive bath tub, there was not enough hot water to fill it. The staff are excellent and the shuttle bus to and from Hoi An works well.

The breakfast was lovely, their dinning area is on a veranda overlooking the river. We had dinner here too, it was nice but overpriced.

Would recommend this hotel for a chill out stay. Would also recommend staying more than one night as the hotel and town has a lot to offer.
Overall big thumbs up for his hotel.

Ancient House River Resort & Spa is situated along the riverside, although away from the old town Hoi An, but is near, around 3KM to the Cua Dai Beach. You can ride a bike (free for hotel guests) to the beach within 15 -30 min, and they provide almost hourly shuttle transfer from Hotel to Old Town and to the Beach and vice-versa. The most wonderful thing is the friendly and helpful hotel staff. My wife and I arrive early at 7am, and they get us checked in for a room at 7:15am!

Room Tip: 2nd Floor Poolside View is good. Looby is at the 2nd floor.

My heartfelt thanks to Ancient House River Resort staff, we never wanted to leave, but after all, this was a great example of customer focused, family friendly businesses. I would recommend this hotel to any person travelling to Vietnam for the first time, or to Hoi An for that matter. My family and I could not rate this elegantly rural, picturesque property high enough.
Phuong, a beautiful young lady with a cheerful enthusiasm was always there to assist us in every aspect of our stay. From last minute tour boookings to ensuring any accidental negative experience was converted inbto a positive experience, without ANY prompting or complaint. Phuong's attention to detail and helpful nature made our stay an amazing experience. Her employer is very lucky to have such a dedicated person working so hard to keep his customer happy. In fact, every staff member all the way to the gardener was helpful, happy, resourceful and attentive.
To anyone interested in an experience of authentic immersion without sacrificing comfort, Ancient House River Resort is the epitomy of quality and kindness, comfort and attention.
I wish we could have stayed another month.

Room Tip: 212 and 214 have no rooms above them and they are a flat load from the lobby. The only downside is t...
