“Homely and traditional”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013 via mobile

After being greeted at my hotel with a bicycle, My guide and I cycled to the market. We were told a lot about the different types of fruit, vegetables and spices!

Off to Tra Que, which was a beautiful ride, stopping for photo opportunities on the way until we reached waterwheel. This family run farm is in the middle of the herb village.

Welcome drinks and then a lesson in the herbs and farming, back for a foot soak in herbal water and some info on rice paper making later we were in our chefs hats.

Soooo much food! Amazing teaching from the staff who all spoke fab English!

All the dishes were great, 3 friends, papaya salad with seafood, Vietnamese pancakes and traditional fish in banana leaf! Followed by fruit we picked at the market! Stuffed!

Fabulously friendly, hospitable, great teachers and a beautiful setting. Many cooking classes are in the town but the setting makes the class, along with the people.

Everyone should do this when in hoi an.

“Excellent day cooking & eating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

We cycled to this village for a wee look & had lunch. We were shown how the waterwheel worked & given a chat on the history of the village. As it was the low season we booked a cooking class the next day for just the two of us with Hien. She met us the next morning at our hotel & we cycled to the Hoi An market to do a bit of shopping for our cooking class. Cycled back to Tra Que & had a tour around the garden while wearing traditional gardening clothes. We had a wonderful cooking class & enjoyed eating the food very much. As there were only two of us there was a lot of food to eat & we did feel like we may have offended when we couldn't eat it all!! Hien & her boss were such very lovely women & we had an excellent day, leaving with our cooking certificate in hand! Highly recommended.

“Great experience with the amazing Lily!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

Our experience started with a wobbly bike ride with the very accommodating guide Lily who offered to take me by motorbike while my partner followed behind on a bike. The trip to the market was extraordinary where we were shown around the fish, fruit and meat sections of the market. Learning heaps as we walked around.

This was followed by a short scenic ride to the extensive gardens where we cooked a delicious lunch outside.

Lily’s bubbly, friendly personality made the day highly enjoyable and we came away with a much greater understanding of the local ingredients and farming methods as well as having had a delicious meal.
