“A great day with wonderful locals”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

We wanted to experience some local life and also do a cooking class. We're met by our lovely host, Lily who took us to the HoiAn market and provided a great tour of the local produce: fishmongers; butchers; and vegetable market. After buying a few ingredients it was back on our bikes to the Tra Que village, a leisurely ride through the rice paddies. After arriving we were provided with cool drinks and a tour of then village market gardens. Our 9 year old was taught and learnt a lot from Lily who pitched the delivery at our young daughter, with the tour being both educational and entertaining. Then after a quick foot bath it was down to the real business, the cooking class. We went for option 1 of the potential 3 menu's that included the green papaya salad. it was amazing and we are looking forward to cooking for friends when we get back to Australia. The instruction by Lily was exceptional, explaining everything as she went. Our daughter especially liked carving the vegetables into swans, rabbits and tulips. The food was plentiful and equated to a four course meal. Went home feeling like a fat ladies sock. Overall, we had a fantastic family day, with wonderful locals and got exactly what we wanted. Cannot recommend Lily and this tour enough - money well spent!

“It will be the highlight of your trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

We went as a family of 4, with two children ages 9 & 11. Hien (Helen) met us and took us on a lovely ride into Hoi An and comprehensive tour of the markets. The produce was awesome, and she saved us from paying tourist prices for several items.
She then took us around the herb village, where we tasted incredible herbs and vegetables.
The actual cooking class exceeded all expectations. We prepared and ate the best meal we have eaten in Vietnam, all with the freshest ingredients. We were so full by the end we had to stop, they were so generous. They were also so generous of spirit, with Hien very funny and Thuong a beautiful soul. It is also worth mentioning their English was excellent.
Overall, my children rated it 10 out of 10, and so did we. It has been our best day, and I can't recommend it more highly.

“GREAT EXPERIENCE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

If you wish a trip toward to countryside and experience as a farmer, it is your choice.

You can attend Farming trip (join in preparing the land and fertilising with real farmers in the herb garden); or Cooking class (preparing and cooking Vietnamese food:“Cao Lau”, “My Quang”, and “Tam Huu); or Rice Paper Making (how to soak the rice and grind it by hand to make flour which is suitable for making rice paper)....

You will have the best experience here!

“Interesting view of the lives of local farmers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

We visited this village as part of a tour with Hoi An Eco Tours. A local cooperative of farmers who grow a range of herbs and vegetables using locally sourced organic fertilisers (water weed) using traditional farming practises. We watched farmers at work and had a go at watering by hand, with the help of a 70+ yr old woman. She only let us half-fill her watering cans because they would be too heavy for us!!!!! We were given lots of information about what we saw growing in the garden, what each was used for, and got to taste them as well.

“It's a must do!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

We got picked up from hotel and rode around to a local village market. We tried some sticky rice treats and looked at all the fresh gorgeous food. Next we rode to Tra Que herb garden where we cooked our own lunch. All in a chefs costume! It was the most fabulous fresh organic food. The head chef was hilarious ! We played games and ate and laughed. We rode back to hotel past the beach and we had a quick swim and the guide bought us a sugar cane juice. Delicious!
This tour is a must. We organised it through On the Go and other people came and did a different cooking class coz they didn't make as much food as us. We did rice paper rolls, spring rolls, savoury pancake and chicken hot pot. All made ourselves. Best day ever!
