“Nice room, but prickly management”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

I stayed four nights at the An Huy hotel. The location is quite good -- only a couple of blocks from old town. The deluxe room upstairs is well-furnished, roomy, and has a balcony, but there is no view from said balcony. The rooms have no coffee / tea-making facilities, which was a bit disappointing, and as previous reviewers have noted, you get one cup of coffee for breakfast.

The owner / manager (?) was initially welcoming but then immediately started pitching two tailor shops and various outings, and even pestered me in the next days about why I hadn't gone to her recommended shops -- I found this rather off-putting. The hotel guest book also lists a lot of somewhat annoying rules, like no doing laundry in your room, but fortunately this was not enforced. There was some unexpected grumbling as well when I checked out and asked to pay cash in U.S. dollars, even though cash payment is requested and the room rates are quoted in dollars (who knows how many ATM trips it would take to get that many dong!).

So, while I can recommend the rooms themselves and the location, I was not that happy with the management and would stay elsewhere if I visit Hoi An again.

Good location, nicely furnished, quiet and pleasant....but some rooms are quite dark and staff is quite stingy and rigid when it comes to the breakfast ! (one drink and one plate and if one doesn't eat breakfast it is quite difficult to ask for a second cup of coffee....) too bad since it is a very good value and a nice place.

We booked this place online and were not disappointed. The hotel is quaint and full of character. Our room was spacious and clean. It is in a quiet street but very close to the market and the rest of the old town, with plenty of good restaurants close by. It is easy to book any excursions you want in town, so we did not use the hotel for this. We had a lovely cookery lesson at a restaurant just across the street and a few yards up after eating there the previous day (I forget the name). Just the two of us and the chef, much cheaper than some. We found the staff pleasant and helpful when approached, but they did not pester us at all with services. Breakfast was fine, nothing special but OK. Hoi An is a lovely town to relax in after the hustle and bustle of Hanoi.

It is close to Hoi An Old Town but away from the noise and activity, so if you want to stay within walking distance to the market, shopping and restaurants, this is a good choice at a reasonable price.

The hotel is much like an old house and is nicely decorated with a lot of plants but a bit dim at night. The room we had was spacious with two windows, clean and comfortable with a quiet surrounding. The bathroom was adequately spacious too. Breakfast was a standard affair and generally too oily. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Would recommend it and would stay here again but doubt I'll return to Hoi An anytime soon as the place is too touristy for me.

Room Tip: Based on what we saw, ground-floor rooms not so appealing. Rooms upstairs seem nicer.

Very friendly staff. Enjoyed host who was chatty and friendly in what felt like a genuine manner rather than custom oriented, which is difficult to come by in Hoi An.

Rooms are tastefully done with white clean sheets and subtle decor. We stayed in Betel Garden Homestay and also here during our stay in Hoi An and both were great, although this one is half the price and in a better location, it is missing a chill out space and the pancake breakfast is not so good. All buildings in Hoi An seem damp due to high humidity, so expect some level of damp in your accommodation. Tip for Hoi An beach... Go to the Victoria Hotel on the beachfront and pay just $10 to use there luxury pool and great facilities for the day, nice base for a beach relax day, away from the shops and public beach touts.

Happy to recommend An Huy Guesthouse.

We found this hotel to be very cute and the room were very quaint. Unlike the other reviewers we didn't see any bugs and our room was cleaned every day. The owner and staff were very nice and booked a car for us both ways from Da Nang train station and picked us up with no hassle even though our train was over an hour wait.

Although they were often on the computers in the lobby area they were always happy to help and even booked last minute cooking classes for us. They spoke very good English.

The location was really good and was just outside the old town so we were able to walk everywhere.

The breakfast was pretty basic but was adequate.

We chose this hotel as we were looking for a budget option within the old town of Hoi An and according to our earlier research there weren't that many options. The location was actually the only plus of this place. However, I must admit we have overestimated a bit the role of 'location' in Hoi An. It is such a little town that you should not be misleaded by distances and limit your search just to old town area. From any guesthouse/hotel in Hoi An you will be able to get to the old town by rented bike (1$/day) within just couple of minutes.
We have seen many downsides: rooms were spacious but there were ants and even spiders (size of human hand, allegedly non-poisonous) in the room. And the staff was not really eager to clean them up. Staff was actually the biggest disappointment - they were constantly busy playing online games at the PC corner and not helpful at all. We had to try really hard to drag them away from their online addition and serve our breakfast. Overally, we would not recommend this place.

Room Tip: Probably rooms on the upper floors are preferable. We had a room on the ground floor and there were...
