“Excellent choice for Samarkand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

Hotel Zarina is an excellent hotel right in the center of Samarkand just opposite to the Registan. It is very clean and calm and the stuff is extremely friendly and helpful (especially Sanjar gave us very good recommendations, prices were really appropriate and the drivers he recommended were reliable and cautious). We enjoyed the 5 days there and would definitely choose Zarina again!

The hotel is located near many of the local sites to see. It is 1/2 block to a local restaurant Levi-Gor where you can get food and drink upstairs overlooking the main street. The hotel requires all patrons to remove their shoes when entering. They have wood floors and the hotel itself is very clean. It even has a small above pool that others and myself swam in. Breakfast is served downstairs and was included

The hotel location is very nice, close to the famous Registan and Gur Emir mausoleum ... However the neighborhood is not that nice. The staff are very nice and helpful, the breakfast is alright, there is a nice swimming pool in the yard. The rooms are correct with air conditioner, except unpleasant smell was coming from the bathroom (at least in our room in the ground floor). We complained about that and they fixed the problem immediately. As we were there in the summer, it would be nice to have a fridge in the room.

I describe the hotel as average. The rooms are ok, but the bathroom is old and not very big. There is no showercurtain, so you must put away for example the toiletpaper when you take a shower.
There was no possibility to have dinner. (however the breakfast is ok and served in the restaurant).
Service is ok and the courtyard is perfect for a bit of rest and drinking a coffee or a tea.
Zarina is located of few minutes walk away from the famous Registan.
The neighbourhood is safe to my opinion, but not the most beautiful one.

We stayed here at the end of the summer. Yes it was still hot, but the room we had was lovely, overlooking the small pool, with a small balcony. You have to bear in mind that this is supposed to be a BUDGET hotel, and in our opinion it is much more than that. Definatley Three Stars. Helpful staff, the location for the tourist is EXCELLENT, although to find it you have to go down some back streets which leave a bit to be desired. But, once again, you have to realise where you are, and this city is ex-Soviet Union!
All in all, we would definately recommend it.

Its a nice hotel, 3 minute walk to Registan. There are all sorts of rooms here, as its a converted house. I stayed in the biggest one, which was huge, and cool retro furniture. But the bed was very short. (I also never get that in many countries, they leave the sheet folded and you have to do something with it, and its never big enough to cover you, so once you roll over you are fighting with the coveres) Its a family run place with grandma, her son and granddaughter. There is no wi-fi, but a computer is available. The breakfast was more than adequate.

Walking off the main road to get to this hotel it looks a bit of a dodgy area, but actually the whole town is really very safe and once you get inside the Hotel Zarina the place is very well-kept. The courtyard is pretty with plenty of shady seating and a shallow pool. The staff were helpful, although a couple of rooms occupied by our party had one thing or another wrong with them - overhead light not working, etc. I wouldn't leave valuables in the room, though, as the hotel require that you leave your key with them when you go out (they apparently have no copies for chambermaids to get in with) and the keys just hang on a board in the entry corridor, which might not be attended 100% of the time. They provide safe deposit and money change services at reception.
