“This a lovely, friendly Posada which felt genuinely traditional and welcoming.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2011 via mobile

We were greeted by a friendly young woman who made us feel immediately welcome. We had a large, modern, clean room with a huge bed and bathroom. The Posada is in a quiet side street but within walking distance of all the sites and restaurants. It is a lovely old colonial building which has been sympathetically restored with charm and authenticity. I felt very relaxed here. We had a late ferry out of Colonia but the staff allowed us to use the hotel facilities until our departure. I would recommend this hotel and think it was good value.

Don Antonio Posada hass an attractive, classical facade on a tree-shaded street, just a short walk from the historic center of Colonia de Sacramento. The posada has rooms on two floors, around a courtyard, with a terrace and small swimming pool.
The rooms are surprisingly large, with whitewashed brick and stone walls, white-painted furniture and contemporary lighting fixtures.
The bathroom is small and the fixtures dated, but they function adequately.
The beds are comfortable.
The rooms have contemporary and well-functioning heating and air conditioning units.
The rooms, patio and sitting rooms of the posada are well maintained and adequately furnished.
Room prices at Don Antonio Posada include buffet breakfast in the dining room. The room is somewhat plain, but adequate, and the buffet service is varied and good quality.
This is a superior 3-star place to stay; comfortable, very well located, and offering good service for money charged.

Room Tip: - rooms overlooking the street are subject to considerable street noise from passing vehicle traffic

Nice mix of old and new. Hotel has a nice courtyard around which the rooms are located. Rooms are spacious and have very good beds. Bathrooms are nicely tiled. Loads of atmosphere. Staff is very helpfull. Excellent breakfast. Only negative may be the noise when your neighbours upstairs come home late. I would opt for a room on the uppermost level next time.

While the hotel staff was not the friendliest or the most helpful, I would still recommend this place for the good location, historic feel, and reasonable price (US$130 for 3 people). It is older and the room has the issues that come with age (i.e. some cracks on the walls, dirt in the corners of the bathroom), but it didn't feel dirty and we slept comfortably. The hotel is within walking distance of the historic center and several restaurants and shops. Also there is free wi-fi which is always a plus! But just a warning, there is no elevator and you have to carry your own bags up the stairs so travel light!

Posada Don Antonio is great value for money: charming, comfortable and clean accommodation in a great location, just across the street from the quaint historical city center, named World Heritage site by Unesco. Also, kind and warm service and excellent breakfast spread add points to the spacious rooms with a view to the patio with its pool and fountain. Don't miss Colonia and take advantage of this great deal!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2011

We had opted for a superior room and were not disappointed, especially considering the price we paid which was very reasonable. A very spacious, beautiful room and an attractive bathroom too. Lovely view over the terraces, pool, fountain, trees and the River Plate in the far distance. Excellent breakfast although it's chaotic at the weekend when visitors arrive just for Sats/Suns. For those mornings, breakfast should be arranged in a different way to avoid the scrum and long wait by the toasters.
Only criticisms: the swimming pool was absolutely freezing and you'd have to be very brave to use it! Also, although the staff were helpful when asked for help and advice, there were absolutely no suggestions about things to do, no leaflets or brochures on display that we saw, and no tourist corner with an advisor. They rather leave you to get on with it here, which is great in one way but leaves you with a slight feeling that the staff aren't really bothered whether you find all the good stuff or not. For example, while it's obvious that one must visit the old town, how many people have discovered the beautiful walk along the beaches of the River Plate as we fortunately did? Beware of some truly terrible restaurants in this town. For a good, fairly-priced and honest (if not glamorous) meal, turn left and left again out of the hotel and eat at El Porton on the main street. Some of the places in the old town and especially by the waterfront are overpriced and not too good to say the least......

Room Tip: Say what your priorities are: great view/big room?

Great hotel, superb location. Only caveat: be sure not to be given a room in the new building, where rooms are noisy and lack of the magnificient view to the internal garden. The staff immediately relocated me to the "old" building, but their attitude was not as friendly as I expected.
