I´m justing returning from my second trip to Colonia. I stayed at this Sheraton for New Year´s Eve (summer) and now in July (winter).

I just can say that it is a great opition both if you want to relax in a honeymoon mood or you want to enjoy with your family. The service still good, the heated pool on the spa (wich you can use) is just one of the greatest I ever went. The bikes to get around are a fun idea (my stepsun loved it)...

The Sheraton Colonia was a nice change of pace after Buenos Aires. The hotel is only a few years old and the rooms and design are quite nice. i agree with the reviews below that the restaurant was overpriced and disappointing. <it is annoying that there is no shuttle to town, a $8 cab ride each way. All in all a nice break though. We really like the pool, sauna, and spa.

The hotel is beautiful. The pool, lawns, and building all looked fantastic. The level of architecture is certainly above other Sheratons that I have stayed at (which include the Sheraton Buenos Aires, which I left to travel to Uruguay).

However, the service was not so good. There were dirty towels by the pool, empty glasses lying around, and it took 45 minutes for us to get lunch! We felt like the staff ignored us. I think this may be a pool and restaurant specific problem as the check-in people were friendly, the bellman were very nice, and when my fiance needed a band-aid, they brought one to our room free of charge.

My recommendation: If you plan to lounge at the pool, bring your own food. The service is slow and the food is expensive and lacks quality. The problem is that the town/shopping district is a $10 cab ride away from the hotel so this may prove difficult.

Overall, I would stay there again as it is one of the few quality resorts in Colonia. We did have good time in Uruguay and the spa facilities are fantastic. However, I would not pay full price and I would not expect a fast, quality lunch in the restaurant or by the pool.

We loved our stay at the Sheraton Colonia. It was an oasis of comfort and fun, between laying at the pool or playing a round of golf, and having a drink at the bar. The staff provides top notch service, making you feel like a VIP all the time.

POOL: Fantastic pool array, with a nice mix of seating options. Can't rave enough about it.

ROOM: Incredibly comfortable, huge space and great bathroom. Loved it.

GOLF: Great course, though make sure to use mosquito spray, as they're pretty vicious.

FOOD: We weren't thrilled with the food options or the price.

LOCATION: Note that the resort is about 5 km out of Colonia, so you'll need to have a car or call a taxi to take you anywhere.

As an aside, I had a medical emergency while staying there. I reported my problem to the front desk around 12:30am and by 1:30am a doctor arrived at my room, and by 2:30am the prescription was delivered to my room. I cannot thank the resort enough for their first class service in handling my situation, and for doing so free of cost. All I paid for was the prescription and the taxi driver's time to pick it up and deliver it to me. Because of their actions, my vacation was saved and I enjoyed the rest of my trip.

Don't think twice. Stay at the Sheraton Colonia.
