“Beatiful, nice location close to the river”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2011

STRENGHTS: Quiet location at the end of the small brick street, spacious apartment (most luxury option) with balcony and windows on the river, mid-size outdoor pool at excellent location, reasonable prices in restaurant however it was not 5 star service, reception staff quite OK
WEAKNESSES: Pricing. 01/2011 at high season prices were really high so I've decided to book it by Goldpoints (Previous Radisson loyalty programme). Hotel could be overcrowded (especially during summer season e.g. January, February)
OVERALL: If you like "chain hotels" you collect or spending points in loyalty programmes- definitely YES. If you seek romantic, local hotel definitely NOT. Check out pricing, try to find any package to beat standard price.
Well... reading some other contributions I agree that it's rather good 4 star hotel than real 5 star property but overall I was very satisfied due to have extra large, clean and nice suite.
No smell from the river...just sound of flowing water and distant noise from one of parties somewhere away at the river. If you could accept it as the part of local style of living...will be satisfied.
Walking distance to all historical attractions of Colonia, short Taxi trip to new, modern ferry terminal (BUENOS AIRES ferries)

Room Tip: Ask for river view, avoid pool view (could be very noisy till evening)

My wife and I stayed here in December 2010. I had some business in Buenos Aires and we decided to take a leisure trip for 2 days on the side to Uruguay. We stayed here because it was highly rated and because the pictures looked excellent. That's about it.

I booked their most expensive room - a large corner room with views of the river. Things they don't tell you: the river smells. Badly. My wife and I are from New York City and lived on the Upper West side along the Hudson River. I am TELLING you that there is no comparison. You would think that after living along the Hudson River, we'd be used to anything. Wrong. The Hudson does not smell. This river, however, had an overwhelming rotten egg smell that seeped through the walls and invaded our every sense. Being at the pool was not even enjoyable. I was facetiously concerned that the vapors would cause us to pass out.

Also, we had a terrace, which we thought could be nice to sit out on at night, have cigars, a bottle of wine, etc. Wrong. Totally unbearable. Additionally, we quickly realized that various insects were crawling into our room and a mini infestation was going on. When we called the front desk, a person explained "you are on the river -- what do you expect." Excellent.

After 1 night, I was dying to get out of there and back to Buenos Aires....I am not sure if this is the "best" of Colonia but you must avoid.

Room Tip: If you are in a room facing the river, be warned that there will be an insect infestation and rotten...

Me and my friend stayed for 2 nights in Superior double room. The hotel is really overprised for the quality it offers. Not that it's bad, no, it's ok, but definitly not real 5 star. Positive: central heating (pretty important thing during winter), spacious rooms, comfortable beds, best possible location. Negative: price, breakfast (quite a poor selection and too crowded), bathroom (small, old and there's rust in some places), front-desk staff (don't really speak english and are generally not very friendly).

Also, before coming to the hotel i was typing to them to find out different things..It took 2 days and 2 follow-up messages from my side to get some responce (though, the guy who responded in the end was pretty helpful)

Quiet location on the waterfront, near historic city centre and main street. Front desk staff were very helpful and friendly on our arrival. Our room on the second floor was clean and comfortable, overlooking a quiet street.
We ate in the hotel restaurant on the first night - good food and friendly service. At breakfast the hotel manager introduced himself and asked if we were happy with the hotel and its services. A booked transfer service was late picking us up - hotel staff were very helpful in calling the car service immediately to remedy the situation.
We would definitely stay there again.

I stayed here on business in June 2011. The hotel is small and at the end of a street. First impressions were not great but the view from the river view room that I had was fantanstic. The room itself was quite spacious and clean. The bacony overlooked the river and infinity pool. My only complaint was the restaraunt, the service was generally slow as was business, food was ok. I'm sure this place is great in the summer and would be a nice spot for a retired couple on their 50th wedding anniverssary vacation but it's just a bit too 'sleepy' for me.

Room Tip: Get a river view room.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2011

Went for a Anniversary trip with my wife. It is the only 5 star hotel within walking distance to the historic center, so after reading very good reviews we decided to stay here, although it was north of 300 us$ a night for the weekend . It is a good hotel, but 5 star may be a stretch, gym and inside swimming pool are very basic. Good breakfast and courteous service. I had problems connecting my tablet to Internet. I loved Colonia and being so close to the historic center was definitely a plus. I may choose a different alternative next time.

Room Tip: river view is definitely a plus for a sunny day

Excellent hotel. Comfortable installations. Very friendly staff that gave very good service. Room and bathroom is very spacious. Standard room has a view of an interior court. Room has very little lighting. Not handicapped friendly. Has staircase (5 steps) from main floor to poolside, staircase (30 steps) from parking in basement to main floor, 4 steps from main floor to room corridor. Excellent breakfast was included. Comfortable beds.
