“Day trip from Buenos Aires”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2011

This posada is a lovely but very modern place. Our room was quite big and very clean. The rooms get cleaned twice a day. The stuff is very helpful and nice. They equipped the rooms with ipodstations with speakers which is pretty cool but the device had a different plug so couldn't use it which was pretty funny though...
The breakfast was wonderful - not a lot, but good quality. There are different types of beverages (fresh coffee, teas, hot chocolate, fresh orange juice and milk), cereals, media lunas!!!, toast and obviously toppings.
The garden at the backyard is inviting with a pool area, even though you don't want to stay at your hotel when you can have the Playa Ferrando about 2km away from the posada.
The mattress in our room way really good quality so that we slept like a log ;)

This place is a gem. I booked one night at El Capullo, and ended up staying for three. My room was lovely, the location is excellent, the staff was so helpful – and the breakfast can’t be beat! I highly recommend this quaint hotel to anyone traveling to Colonia, as it is one of the best I have experienced.

El Capullo's atmosphere was soothing and the staff superb. Everything was effortless, simple and lovely--the way a few days off should be. The other visitors were eclectic but respectful so it's easy to fluctuate between socialization and solo serenity. I appreciated the owner's environmental consciousness in particular but still found the establishment's operational standards well above par: clean, efficient and friendly. I felt comfortable, classy and well taken care of. Ideal really.

I have stayed here 6 times since 2010. I simply will not stay anywhere else. El Capullo has everything i need. The property is truly beautiful, and is perfectly located. I will add, that as an openly gay man travelling from abroad, businesses that are 'gay friendly' will get my attention first.

Too bad the owners have poor people skills and they employ receptionist's with horrible people skills. The hotel is clean and has a great location. All the rooms are well equiped and new. Rooms 1-6 need to be avoided as they are smack dap in the middle of the eating and reception area. For $90 a night this is a complete rip off. Rooms 7-12 are nice and worth the extra money. However, I would never stay here again. The owner Tom is down right rude. Has no eye contact, ran into me and did not say a word. Lucianna is the same. She rude and disrespectful. Obviously they are not looking for repeat business. I give this hotel a big thumbs down.

I am very sorry to have bumped into you - i can assure you it was unknowingly. Likewise, i apologize if you found our staff anything other than friendly. Looking at the rest of the reviews, i think it´s fair to say the majority of our guests have been happy with the service and have found us to be friendly and helpful. It is actually only rooms 3-6 that open directly onto the main corridor and/or breakfast area and that is why the rooms are priced lower than the others. Again i'm sorry if you didn´t feel that the cost was worth it, but i´ll think you´ll find that the services and rooms we offer are very fairly priced in regards to our competition.
It´s always disappointing to read that guests have not enjoyed their stay and so i´m sorry we didn´t live up to your expectations and hope that the rest of your trip was pleasant.

My wife, nine-month old daughter and I stayed at El Capullo for three nights in December 2010 and were very happy with our selection. The hotel is located in the old town area of Colonia del Sacramento, right near the squares and many fantastic restaurants.

The hotel itself is a nice mix of classic and modern styles. The rooms are big with very comfortable beds. The staff was also nice enough to provide us with a portable crib for our daughter to sleep in.

Our room backed onto the central yard/pool area, which was very beautiful and a perfect spot to enjoy the Uruguayan sun!

The breakfast was very delicious, especially the fruit salad. I'm not sure what they added to it to make it so good, but it was amazing! The hotel has a menu of drinks and food that you can order to enjoy in your room or in the yard, which was also very nice.

There is ample free parking on the street outside the hotel, and there is also a parking garage if needed. The hotel has free wifi access, although the signal did not reach our room but there is also two computers for guest use in the common area.

All in all the stay was great and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to visit Colonia!
