“Promises more than it can keep”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2012

Stayed with my family at the Al Sharq hotel for one night due to a late flight arrival to Dubai. At arrival we were welcomed by the receptionist. I asked where to park the car, since I’d called the hotel a couple of days before arrival to check parking possibilities. According to the answer I got then there should be free parking. However, nor the receptionist or the bellboy could point out any free parking lots. We parked the car outside and paid AED 15. Not much of a fuss but a little bit strange referring to something when it obviously is no possibility to get free parking outside the hotel.

The hotel is located quite centrally depending on what your business is in Sharjah. The park outside, Rolla Garden, is still in construction mode and the noise from the construction workers starts early in the morning. If you are facing the park this might be an issue.

We got a room on the 10th floor, fortunately not facing the Rolla Garden. The baby cot that we ordered when booking the room was not there. Calling the reception did not help. The only answer we got was that it was impossible as they do not have baby cots. Strange since we booked the baby cot without any problems. The Al Sharq hotel website says: “One child under 2 years stays free of charge in a baby cot.” Apparently you have to bring it yourself...?

The room and all the furniture was a bit shabby. However, there was a TV, fridge, bathroom with bathtub and shower. The room was clean but in the bathroom there was some mold here and there.

In the morning we got a surprise as they informed us that there is no breakfast included in our stay. Once again I referred to their website stating “All rates are inclusive of Continental Breakfast”. Nope, that was totally unfamiliar to them. No breakfast for us. So we checked out hungry.

The price we paid for our stay was according to the standard of the hotel. However, since we didn’t get the promised free parking, the baby cot and the breakfast, my opinion is that we paid a too high price for this stay. Therefore I can’t really recommend the Al Sharq hotel unless you are aware of the lack of several services.

Room Tip: The park outside, Rolla Garden, is still in construction mode and the noise from the constructions w...

This hotel is located in a city nearby Dubai. By taxi, its takes about 80 dihrams from the airport. It has much traffic in rush hours in Dubai direction. People told us it can take about 2 hours to get to Dubai from Sharjah around 7 AM.

The hotel is ok. Simple breakfast. Not many options for you to eat world-food close to the hotel.

The Dubai Mall is a little far from the airport, costs a little more by taxi.
There is a Bus Station to Dubai is Sharjah - it's not very close to the hotel, not very often and the buses don't really leave you at the tourist places. It's better that you take the bus and then change to the monorail (very beatifull stations). It takes you to Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa etc.

Western people may see this city as a very conservative place in UAE. Women should not go to the streets in desrespectfull clothes.

Next to this hotel there is mosque who starts its prayers at 5:30 AM. Good if you are muslim or if you must wake up early.

The hotel is situated near the KM Centre, Joyalukkas, Pak Ghazi etc., so it was nice to stay there. In front the rolla square. I could see the square form my room. But rooms seem little bit shabby. There was no internet connection in the room but they allowed me to use the lobby connection by my laptop. Thanks

Nothing but good things to say about this place. The staff is there in the lobby with help and advise about things to do in the area, including good advice about going to Dubai. We booked the afternoon Desert Safari and a private tour of Dubai with them for very little cost. Good internet, close to shopping and museums, and a very caring crew at this hotel. I highly recommend it.

This is the cheapest hotel in the metro Dubai area. It is located in the center of Sharjah, across from Rolla Park. It is convenient to most services you would need. The staff was very friendly and helpful, letting me check in at 6:30 AM. Excellent value for your money.
