“Big but Freindly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2010

With our HH Diamond status we were upgraded to a junior suite on the beach. This is a big resort with a number of restaurants and bars. There is nothing in RAK so you will be staying at the hotel for everything. Remember it is a long way from Dubai, depending on traffic it can take 1.5 - 2 hours. We liked the location and found it ideal for a few days R&R. The housekeeping and room service staff were delightful and could not do enough for us. Food quality is good with many restaurant choices, we particularly liked the Asian/Sushi restaurant. There should be something for everyone here and as there is a Virgin office in the lobby it looks like they are aiming for Brit families on an all-inclusive deal. There were a lot of older Germans with wrist bands on when we were there. It is a very big property and could get too busy for couples looking for a quieter or more romantic location. We will definitely go back at some stage when in the region.

Travelled to Ras al Khaimah via Qatar airways, with a transfer between Doha which run very smoothly.Service on board not as good as Emirates but thats only my opinion. We booked a private transfer to the hotel and the driver stopped off to get us both a bottle of water for the journey which took about 90 mins. Nice gesture.
At the hotel we booked in but was told our room was not ready but to go and have lunch then go back. This we did and it gave us time to look around before going to our room.
Once in the room we couldn't have asked for any thing better. The sea view was stunning and the room itself more than adequate. The bed was so comfortable you didn't want to get up in the morning!! The only complaint was that the bidet and the toilet should be placed the other way round. Hubby ended up with bruised knees from the toilet roll holders!!!!!
There were more than enough sun loungers around all the pools but you still had people getting up early to nab the same sun bed every day even though there was no need to. The whole resort was kept beautifully clean. We even had someone cleaning the condensation off the windows at 10pm.
The only downside for us was the service in the all inclusive restaurants. There were more than enough staff to cope but they weren't used properly. On many occasions we were shown to tables that had not been cleared and then we were left without cutlery for a length of time. We had to repeatedly ask for our drinks and felt that some of the staff resented us asking again. The food itself was ok. Plenty of choice but we felt that it wasn't replenished quick enough. Its definitely worth doing the all inclusive though because it is very pricey. A small bottle of water costs around £4 and you need to drink plenty of it.
Theres not a lot to do at night after you have eaten except walk around the grounds which in itself is pleasant to do. We walked along the pathway in front of the villas to the other end of the resort where you find the other restaurants. The view from there is stunning. Then in the morning there was a nice breeze coming off the sea which made it more bearable. There are a few bars but they tend to be very smokey and coming from the UK we are not used to it anymore.
I had a massage the day before we left and it was magical. Soniya my masseuse was tiny but by the time she got round to the massage I thought I'd got a 20 stone man massaging me. I felt so relaxed after wards and the bad back I had from spending too much time sunbathing disappeared.
Overall I would say we had a lovely time at this hotel. We came back feeling totally chilled out which is what we went for. We have stayed in the Meridien hotels in Dubai before and perhaps Hilton could learn a bit from them.Little things like the ice cold flannels given out by the pool and slush puppy drinks to cool you down. Also the food quality was so much better in the Meridien hotels.
We came here because we wanted to try another part of the UAE and just to unwind. I would definitely go back again but only after we have tried other Emirates. Fujairah next I think.

Stepping into the wonderfully light and airy reception area was a blessing in the heat of the Arabian sun.
The entire hotel is beautifully decorated with a modern Aarbian feel and the property is expertly maintained.
The rooms are spacious (we stayed in a deluxe sea view room), the bed very comfortable and the shower big enough for a party!
The extensive sun terraces were immaculate and we never had a problem finding a sun lounger and each pool was a welcome haven from the sun.
All inclusive is definately the way forward, as the cost of drinks alone, could turn a 'reasonably' priced break into something much more expensive.
The selection at the buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner was fantastic - perhaps if you are a 'meat and two veg' person, you might get bored with the choice, but for us, the choice was excellent, with different cuisines each night at dinner.
We ate at the Brazilian restaurant once and were stuffed! The food there was wonderful and plentiful.
The resort is quite secluded in that you couldn't wander around outside and get anywhere fast, but the hotel does offer a nightly shuttle for guests to the local mall (200 shops), which gets you out and about.
The location of the resort suited us, as we just wanted to relax and chill out, which we were able to do with ease.
Most of all, the staff at this hotel are the friendliest, most helpful and cheerful we have ever encountered. We even helped the staff in Al Bahar name a 'mocktail'!

My partner is hilton honour . Upon arrival we checked in through the hilton honour check in. Unfortunately no one was available at that desk, and others that arrived later were assisted first. Fortunately a very kind guest who came later than us and got helped first made the reception aware that we were first and shook his head saying: I don't know what is going on here. The guy who helped us apologized and upgraded our room. Next day after swimming at the beach we came back late in the room and they FORGOT to clean the room. Never happened before. Service in the Dome lounge was very bad. They won't serve you properly if you are not wearing a blue band, which we weren't. Best service was in the restaurant on first floor, that was really good.
Better to stay in Dubai where the service is much better.

Rooms are gorgeous - we stayed in connecting rooms - a standard king and a standard twin. The twin actually had what I would call two doubles - we could have all fitted in the one room! Bathroom was spacious, with separate bath and shower. Fittings were new and very slick.
But the tragedy lies in the potential of this hotel which is not being fulfilled. Staff are not trained on the facilities of the hotel - they don't seem to know when the restaurants are open, what there is to see in the area - our friends were even told that the kids club opens in two weeks, but we had already gone there with our own children that morning!
We were told there was only one place to have lunch - their beachside restaurant - another tragedy - it looks like a food hall inside, with glass tables, cast iron chairs and tiled floors, and hundreds of people making noise that reverberates off every hard surface. We were told that we would have to wait outside as there were no remaining tables indoors (43 degrees celsius and we had 4 kids under 7 in our group). I asked if there was anywhere else, and they said no. We left and found out later that there was a lovely Italian restaurant open just off the lobby. They only seem to cater for those who take the all-you-can-eat option, and forget that there are some customers who are not interested in the buffet. But all in all, not many options for lunch dining if you don't want the lobby or a noisy cafeteria.
Pools were not chilled sufficiently (if at all), and we ended up forgetting about asking for a late check-out on our last day because it was too hot to stay in the pools and little else to do.
Our friends booked a queen villa room, and it was exactly the same size as our twin but twice the price, and down the other end of the resort - a 500m walk, or a buggy ride. Would be nice if you could find a buggy, but despite the fact that the hotel was nearly full, we waited 20 minutes and gave up. We walked in the 60% humidity and 38 degree temperature with our crying children to see 4 idle buggies on the way.
Twice we walked into restaurants with tetchy moments - once a waitress was in tears, and another time we heard the restaurant manager screaming at a line-up of staff.
Kind of gave the impression they are cutting costs, but in all the wrong areas.

Another of our trips out of Dubai for a weekend away with the children. Beware of traffic out of Dubai on the way through Sharjah to RAK, and the google map showing the location is totally wrong! If you do get lost then get the GPS to direct you to the city Hilton hotel and there are sign-posts to the Hilton Resort and Spa from there. We were not the only ones to get lost as we could hear the Concierge on arrival directing people on the telephone!

It is a busy hotel and lots of people with kids checking in and out at the same time. The service is however good, and the golf cart drivers which take you around the resort are helpful and smiley.

The room was spacious and clean. We got a DVD player so that the children could watch a DVD quietly in the late afternoon after the beach & pool had closed. There are plenty of sun loungers around the pool and towels. It is relaxing and quiet. The main pool is a sea water pool and the beach is right besides it. We couldn't get bar food at the pool bar and so had to order at the nearby restaurant (service slow).

On the advice of previous Tripadvisor members we got the inclusive package. We had dinner at the Maarid; buffet Arabic style- not too bad as far as buffets go, with lots of people (on tours) but plenty of food. and although crowded it was still pleasant. We decided to have breakfast at the Passage to Asia which is on the far side of the resort- it was lovely and quiet and the service there was good.

We would recommend setting off early if you intend to get there for a weekend away and avoid the traffic. An inclusive package is not too expensive.
