“not bad”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

We booked in this hotel because it was the only one available which was near the marathon event we were attending. If you're looking for a hotel just to have a place to sleep and leave your things, I can recommend this hotel. I was amazed on how clean our room was and you can tell that the bed sheets, blankets, etc. were properly washed. Though it's really obvious that the hotel was old and not properly maintained. The key used was the old manual thing and the elevator was very very slow, also the flush of the toilet in our room does not work all the time but it was manageable. You can also hear from your room the sound of the vehicles passing by, so if you're a light sleeper, I don't think you'll have a good night sleep but not in my case because I had a very good night sleep. We had a nice lunch in the Japanese restaurant and it's good to dine outside facing the pool because it was so relaxing (except maybe during summer time). All the staff we met were very friendly. I can say that in this hotel, you get what you paid for.

If you are looking for complte R and R this is the place to go.
Well maintained hotel with best customer service i have ever had on any holiday.
Room very plush and plenty of room with everything you need for your stay.
Food and choice of resturants are great with plenty of variety and something for everyone.
Beach was great with plenty of beds and you dont have to be up at the crack of dawn to get one.
Adult pool was clean tidy had nice feel and plenty of beds to go around.
Plent of bars on the beach and would recomend sunset bar after 5.30pm views of sun going down
Have to mention some really good people who reall did look after us and they went beyond what i would call good service-Moshey in main food hall what a start, Yonas and Tariku in pool bar really worked there socks off to make sure your holiday was going ok and Mahmoud who looked after our room who was brillant.

Ras Al Kkaimah Hotel is in the Beachfront, RAK (P.O. Box 37755, RAK, UAE). I am not sure when the hotel was constructed but looking at the old fixtures in the room and lobby gave me the idea that it is an old 4-stars property.

It is not a big hotel though. It has 92 rooms, 2 serviceable elevators, an accessible ramp for the handicap, a restaurant in the lobby and near the pool area, a fitness centre, a big swimming pool and wading pool for the kids, a bar and some mini-offices in the lobby.

It is located in a quiet residential area but it also few minutes drive to the RAK Mall and the Al Manar Shopping Mall in the city proper.

We booked our 1 night stay via Booking.com and got a very good deal for a triple bedroom with free buffet breakfast for only AED 249 (around $68) inclusive of the 10% service charge. That's a very good rate.

Let me break down my feedback on the property.

The plus factors:
Situated in a quiet place, just in front of the main road. If you're billeted in the higher floors then you'll have a good look of the nearby beach and on the right side is the mountains (if your room happens to be pool-view).

There's a free wi-fi connection in the lobby. The caveat on this one is that, we have to go down and sit in the lobby to connect. Otherwise, I have no complaints since the connection is actually good.

The beds are very comfortable and our room has a pool-view. So, we can see the beach from a distance and to our right are the mountains. The mountain-scape look so pretty with the contour of the peaks and dips in great detail because they seem so near.

The room is just about right with enough walking spaces to go around without bumping on the chairs nor edges of the bed. It's quite roomy.

They have free slippers and other basic amenities to go like toiletries, shoe wedge, laundry bags, a pen and stationery and too many soaps. I think we have 4 in the bathroom and I say, that's too generous!

There's a fitness center near the pool area.

The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I should have taken their names to commend them for their excellent customer service support.

Our package came with free buffet breakfast. The breakfast was continental and I am amazed by the wide selection. Their selection is better than the one in Ibis Hotel in Deira, Dubai.

There's an ample free parking for guests in front of the hotel and you get a good view of the neighborhood too.

The negative ones:
The lobby is a smoking-area. I find it disturbing to do my online business without someone's cigar's smoke wafting.

The hotel's strict "no outside food/beverages" policy. We are practical travelers and we cannot afford to blow our budget dining in the hotel's in-house restaurants. And we all know that in-house bars and restaurants' meals will cost a fortune. We had to drive to the nearby mall to eat.

The fixtures in our room are all antiquated except for the flat TV screen.

The toilet seat is broken and if you're lucky, you'll get your skin pinched by accident (I had the misfortune of getting my leg skin pinched when I sat on the broken toilet seat).

The tub did not have any rubber stopper if you want to soak. We requested as soon as we checked-in and got the stopper in the evening.

The bathroom sink and mirror are dirty. Well, I'm sure they've been wiped and sanitized but the overall cleanliness is just not at par with other 4-stars hotels.

The carpet looked like it was not washed for sometime but I can live with that. We used their free slippers anyway.

We could hear the loud music and shouting guests coming from the restaurant near the pool. There was a party when we stayed there and it stopped sometime midnight.

And my personal recommendation:
This is a great hotel with value for your money for the non-fussy and practical travelers. If you don't mind staying in an old hotel with basic amenities and outdated fixtures then you can stay here.

However, if you are the fussy and finicky one then no; this hotel will not be ideal for your discerning tastes.

And for those who are a family with older/smaller children - Yes. I do recommend the hotel as they have a big pool and a children's pool too for the kids to enjoy. They have a big grassy area near the pool where the kids can play ball or run around to their liking.

Room Tip: If you don't mind noisy parties (although they may not happen every single night), then choose t...

Great location, very old hotel, safe, old furniture. But not bad.
Good for short time and prices are fair.
Hope they renew it then it will be great.

Car renting available and good pool.
Not bad restaurant and very old lobby.

I have the hotel for one day break in RAS AL KHAIMAH along with friends; we had a deal with this hotel but what a waste.
We booked 2 rooms & had to take an additional room for myself – An absolute Rip Off
- The staffs were extremely unfriendly, generally failed to show any initiative & complaints @ arrival & the end of our stay were poorly dealt with especially from an Egyptian manager at reception.
- We reached the hotel around 10 PM & someone has left breakfast coffee set in front of the room & not cleared till next day while we were checking out.
- The room was poorly decorated & nothing exceptional and was not cleaned to a satisfactory standard.
- The smell in the bathroom was unbearable and water coming from both tape & shower was brownish, could not shower till I got back home.
- The breakfast was sub-standard, average food selection poor, rotten fruits & shipped glasses.
- Have filled an official complaint that must have been thrown in the bin as soon as we checked out.
Definitely wouldn't recommend this hotel even to my worst enemies. It is slightly cheaper but there is a reason for that! And AVOID this hotel, it’s like the plague!!!

Well... so much to say about this! I got a very good offer online so the price was amazing... when it comes to service and good quality... i had booked a king size bed room and i was put in a room with three single tiny beds. The receptioned just raised their shoulders to say "that'what we have free"! And the list goes on. Summary: the hotel is old but it has it fashion, service has a lot to improve!

The hotel is very old, the pool is not bad, elevators are very small can hardly take 3 ppl with no bags or baby chairs, breakfast was fine but really there is no single reason that makes you think of going back, smallest bedsI have ever seen, supposed to accomodate 2 adults and 1 kid which is not the cas at all, the single bed is not enough even for a child. Baby cot is only for infants (could not accomodate my 1 year old boy). Rooms with no view, Housekeeping does not answer the phone at all.
If you are looking only for a sleep in a clean place it is fine but do not expect anything more. If have kids never think of standard room. Personally did not enjoy my stay at all and will never be back.

Room Tip: Just do not stay there, It is clean but nothing attractive at all
