“Great Hotel ! Would go back”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2010

We stayed here as 2 young female girls.. on arrival staff took our suitcases to our room and was shown air con and safety deposit boxes free of charge. Staff were all very helpfull. We were all inclusive which was great.. food was basic chicken and rice, chips.. plenty of fruit and salad and on occasion kebabs donner meat etc.. Which as you would expect going all inclusive in turkey.. Alcoholic drinks were served all inclusive from 10-10 which was fine for us as we headed out once free bar was finished but alcoholic drinks at normal bar was cheap too! There was dj at bar so had access to music all day which i found was good as no awkward atmosphere :-P however all staff were friendly and spoke to you to make sure your stay was as comfortable as possible.. Rooms were adequate.. beds were rather hard but shower was good, good balcony and our fridge was always on so kept water etc nice and cool. Overall i would recommend this hotel to anyone, especially familys and couples.

For the money you pay it's a good hotel. The rooms are clean little bit small but good to sleep in.

The food is not that good, every day almost the same, chicken salads chips and rice.. Afther 15 days you can dream about the meal..
We were the only dutch people in 15 days that stayed in the hotel but we met some very nice English and Scotish people..
We had a great time

Manager unhelpful, all other staff very friendly & helpful, (when not under the very watchful eye of the manager). Food rarely hot, only if lucky enough to be at serving counter when it was replenished. No choice only one main meal, (usually chicken) & allways salad was offered, the salads were varied but nothing substantial to go with them. All inclusive drinks kept running out, every day at least one alcoholic drink also soft beverage was "off". There was a lovely bar by the pool that was not used with the all inclusive, so we had to go inside to get any type of drink & this was not allowed if you were wet, understandable for safety reasons but not ideal for a day by the pool. Drinking water was available from a 'cold water dispenser' but with a bit of detective work we found that the dispensing bottle was being refilled & we can only assume it was tap water & not mineral water as labelled. Some guests who had upset tummies stopped drinking this water & bought their own from the local shop & felt a lot better for it. All inclusive bar closed 5-10 minutes before the end time & on the final minutes they would only serve 1 drink per person as manager would only allow 1 glass each on the table, if he saw more than 1 he would order one of his staff to remove the extra one.
On the plus side, the rooms were cleaned daily & well looked after as was the pool area, being constantly cleared of drinks tumblers. Breakfast was the only guaranteed hot food as there was made to order omelettes with a choice of plain or cheese.
No entertainment during the evening but we enjoyed chatting with other guests around the flood lit pool area. This was not possible on the last few evenings of our stay as the music from the hotel next door was very loud & this encouraged staff at the Karen to pump up the volume of their music ending up just a noise that did not allow conversation. Also the dog barking at all times of day & night (not the dog’s fault, he was tied up between 2 hotels) was very annoying.

I have just come back from a week "all inclusive" at Hotel Karen!
The hotel was clean and tidy but overall a bit of a disappointment for a few reasons

FOOD - The food was in the main well cooked although if you were a little bit late for the meals then some of the food was a bit cool and as for the variety if you don't like chicken or meatball and salad then the Hotel Karen is not for you.. for the whole week the meals were Chicken and Meatballs in different varieties more choice would have been a lot better
DRINKS - On the whole they were OK although guaranteed at least once a day something would run out and the staff did not seem in any great rush to replace it so more often than not you went without the drink you actually wanted also the fact there was very rarely any staff behind the bar you would have to help yourself which drew quite a few evil looks from the person behind reception.
POOL BAR - What a shame to see such a nice bar not being used... it would be much better if the outside bar was used as the all inclusive bar as most people were relaxing by the pool also one of the main disappointments was the lack of music around the pool (we had to rely on the hotel next door!) and when there was music it was Arabic/local music which after a while if you are not Turkish it became boring and annoying!
STAFF - Out of all the staff we saw at the hotel there were only 1 or 2 who were not ignorant ! Overall disappointed with the staff.

The fact things kept running out and taking an age to replace lack of music around the pool ignorant staff lack of variety at meal times made the stay disappointing although the hot weather and beautiful resort made the overall holiday a joy, I would definitely return to Marmaris but not to the Hotel Karen..

after reading other reviews i was a bit wary but was very surpised by this hotel. at the end of the day u get what u pay for and it was a very cheap holiday. i went with my teenage daughter and on the first morning was met by lots of other guests moaning and complaining about all aspects of the hotel but decided i would make my own mind up. yes the food was limited in choice its ok if you like chicken but i have never seen it served in so many different ways, there was always a different chioce to go with it rice pasta chips potato croquettes wedges as i work in the catering industry i always check for freshness and make sure the food is cooked properly which it always was. the selection of salads were amazing and were all in a proper chiller cabinet. make sure u get to the dining room at half past 4 for cakes as these are not to b missed and go very quickly we were there for 2 weeks and never had any problems mentioned in previous reviews ( but the people complaining were always the first in the queue for food and were drinking the beer all day !!!! work that one out if they were so ill ) the rooms were cleaned everyday with fresh towels how many hotels do that. the all inclusive drinks were beer red wine white wine vodka gin brandy whisky and raki with proper coke fanta and sprite how many more choice do you need. the staff we all friendly once u got to know them. the location is fantastic really close the beach, shops and nightlife for the price we paid we had a fantastic holiday and met lots of great people who i know we will stay in touch with PLEASE dont be put off by other reviews. the only complaint i have is other foreign guests that were really rude reserving sunbeds they never used and pushing in food queues but this we did not let this ruin our holiday

On second day of holiday my husband fell ill with SICKNESS/DIARRHOEA (ill for nine days) 17 OTHER GUESTS also had same illness, reported to resort rep/manager (BRUNO) gave him a list of rooms of guests who were ill, he admitted there must be something wrong in hotel, he told chef to cook everything fresh, ( you would expect that to be happening in a hot climate like Turkey) OBVIOUSLY NOT, salad left on counter not refridgerated, no wonder people were dropping like flies. waiting staff unfriendly, when you complained, they came away with me no speak english (DID WHEN THEY WANTED TO). Manager, NOT PLEASANT AT ALL, NOT ONCE DID HE ASK ANYONE IF THEY WERE FEELING BETTER! WE have been to Marmaris 6 times and have never and I say never experienced anything like this. SO TRAVELLERS BEWARE OF HOTEL KAREN UNLESS YOU WANT TO BECOME ILL, our holiday was ruined,on the 4TH Sept. (day befor we were due home I became ill with same symptoms, what a nightmare travelling home , I'm off work until I dry up, our grandaughter was with us but she did not eat in hotel, (THANK THE LORD), So if the owner of the hotel reads this YOU MUST do something about your hotel, it someone elderly/infant gets this in a hot climate there could be serious consequences, Everyone thinking of going to Hotel Karen please take heed.
