Just got back from a great stay at the Mutlu hotel ( 11th - 25th July) and cannot praise it enough. Its a great family run hotel that far outshines its 3 star rating.
We had room 308 on the 3rd floor which had a lovely balcony with wonderful views, day and night ,across Fehtiye Bay towards and overlooking Fehtiye Town. For the best views ask for the 3rd floor, otherwise there may be trees in the way.The even numbered rooms have the above view and shade in the afternoon while the odd numbers get sun and fabulous views of the sunset, but don't forget, the higher the floor ,the better the view.
We had a good size room with a king size bed and also a single bed which we didn't need but added greatly to the overall space.Yes, the mattresses are firm ,but very comfortable;in fact so comfortable my partner wants to get something similar.
The bathrooms are small with a shower over the bath and plenty of hot water.
All the public areas are spacious and kept immaculately ,with mosaics on floors and
walls. You could eat your breakfast off the floor on the patio restaurant and there are even some tables on the promenade itself if you want to almost be on the beach.
The swimming pool is spotless and surrounded by grass ,trees and shrubs, with plenty of sunbeds and mattresses available at all times of the day but this didn't seem to deter the usual morons who just have to get up early to reserve the same place every day.
For those who prefer the beach, there are plenty of sunbeds and parasols, which I believe cost 15tl a day for 2 beds and a brolly - not a bad deal - but you can even avoid that charge if you wish by walking to the end of the promenade towards Fehtiye, where the beach club provide free facilities - toilets, showers, beds brollies etc.-all you have to do is buy the odd drink. All are welcome and you can lunch and dine there as well.
The hotel is run very well with the owner's wife and son getting invoved on a daily basis. also particularly helpful are Aylem, the very efficient receptionist ,who can sort most things out for you and who arranged great transport to the airport for us (thank you Aylem). Also very helpful is Sean, the head waiter, and a very special mention to Tann, the head barman, whose friendliness, expertise and hard work really help to make the holiday an unforgettable experience.Even Hussain the barman/waiter was almost smiling by the end of the two weeks-so there's hope for everyone.
The location of the hotel is perfect, right on the promenade/beach with lovely restaurants starting almost next door and streching off into the distance.I'm sure you'll find you own favourites, but, for what it's worth we particularly enjoyed Palms restaurant,The Orient Express and Anna's.Most of them give you a complimentary starter of bread and a garlic spread but we were surprised in 'Deniz' restaurant to be given a very nice and different complimentary starter.I Would say the average cost of a 2/3 course meal with drinks for two was about 75-100TL-Hope that helps.
We did eat twice in the hotel and on both occassions the food was excellent and even cost less than the reasonably priced nearby restaurants.I think Aylem can even do you a deal if you want to eat in the hotel several times.
Trips:we did the Saklikent Gorge/Tlos trip through one of tho local providers(Seaside Travel)on the promenade for £16 a head instead of the £33 a head that First Choice were charging but shop around as prices vary amongst these shops and the one just before 'Seaside' I think it was called Orient Travel tried to charge us £5 more for that trip.
Other reviewers have mentioned the local water taxis to Fethiye which cost 5TL each way and take half an hour .This is accurate ,but you can also book all the boat trips from here as well ,safe in the knowledge that there won't be more than 12 people on your boat. Its also the best price for these trips and they have them on show- half the price of the big tour companies.I can heartily recommend the Blue bays trip where you can swim from the boat and they provide a great barbeque.
I could go on extolling the virtues of Calis Beach and the hotel but get down there and try it for yourself, you'll love it.
Hope you found this helpful -all the best-Peter and Rosalind.

Room Tip: Ask for a 3rd floor room for best views-even nos shade-odd nos sunny.

We were lucky enough to get into the very best Hotel here in Calis Beach. Eylem and Shaun run that Hotel with the help of the staff with warmth, energy and efficiency. The food is good. The welcome and the good-bye fantastic. Very highly recommended.

Had a lovely holiday at Mutlu hotel and on the whole it was mostly positive.
Positives
- Brilliant location on seafront promenade
- Exceptionally clean hotel, the maids were fantastic and worked so hard
- Room facilities very good with TV, bath + shower (often don't get a bath in smaller Turkish hotels) and free air conditioning. Fridges can be hired for only £10 a week, well worth it.
- Good breakfast with wide selction of breads, jams, cheeses, meats and fresh omlettes/fried eggs.
- Pool area looks stunning, in beautiful gardens, plenty of sunbeds and mattresses.
- Go to the 5th floor and there is a terrace where the views of the sunset are sensational
Negatives
- they are the hardest beds ever experienced, you woke up everytime you turned over. I always woke with back ache and I don't suffer with back problems.
- Not enough umbrellas in working order around the pool
- As lots of return guests, there is definately favouritism to regular guests and although I have been to lots of hotels where there are many repeat guests, this was by far the worst. For example I saw someone using free wifi and when I asked at reception, i was told there was no wifi and the manager had agreed to let them have it. If this is the case it should not be allowed in public areas for anyone to see. When I said 'I will never come back here' they suddenly agreed to let me have the code. Also as everyone knew each other, you could sometimes feel a bit of an outsider, as they would reserve lots of tables together at breakfast with their bags etc, so they always got the best position - a bit pathetic really.
- The receptionist, although ok, definatley had mood swings, some days she would speak, other times she would ignore you. Very over the top at times, particularly with regular guests.
The resort is amazing. A long promenade overlooking the beach lined with shops, bars and excellent restaurants. The two best slightly upmarket restaurants were 'Moussaka' and 'Orient Express', the food was amazing, very modern and very reasonably priced. Also, although not quite as upmarket, typically Turkish, the restaurant 'Anna' was also excellent and for famillies, the children eat free. If you are looking at the promenade with your back to the beach, it is towards the end of the row of restaurants on the right side. Again great food and service.
The beach is ok, the only downside is that it is shingle. There are loads of beds/umbrellas and all the restaurants have free mattresses as long as you have a drink/food. Depending on when you go, early season the beds are free and the price increases as you go into high season, which then costs 15 lira for 2 beds and brolly (about £4) so still reasonable.
There is always a breeze on the beach and near the promenade which is a life saver in the heat, which means you do not sweat constantly.
Excellent dolmus service into Fethiye and to other resorts, every few minutes all day and evening.
Good trips are to Dalyan/mud baths and the trip to Tlos and the gorge. If you go to the gorge take a change of clothes, bottom half as the initial part of the gorge goes upto your waist, we weren't told this, we were told knee height and got so far and decided we didn't want to be in wet clothes all day so turned back. You need beach shoes etc if you have them, if not you can buy them there or hire them. Tthe water comes from the snowy mountains and is the coldest water I have ever felt.
There is a market every Sunday at Calis (just get on dolmus) and in fethiye on Tuesdays, if you ask the driver he will stop for you. Well worth a visit but go early as it gets very hot.
Went to Olu Deniz lagoon but we weren't really over impressed and wouldn't go again. I think it looks more spectacular from above.
Anyway all in all I would definately go back to Calis. I would potentially go back to the hotel; I have stayed in other hotels in Calis which were just as good but a lot cheaper but if the price was right then maybe.
Enjoy

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for one night in late June due to a cock-up between our flight date and hotel date at the hotel where we had been for the previous fortnight (our own fault).

So in looking for a cheap hotel for a one-night stay, we headed for the Mutlu, which is situated at the very end of Calis beach.

The sign on reception says that it is the 2010 best 3-star hotel award winner for First Choice, and that was spot-on as far as we could see.

It is not four or five star as the rooms are so basic, but they are perfectly comfortable.

One word of advice... do pay the £2 or so extra for a sea view, as the vista is just breathtaking. From our balcong we had a good 180 degrees of sea view, with the beautiful mountains and islands all in the background - real picture postcard stuff.

The hotel pool was excellent, with no shortage of sunbeds, and the poolside bar and restaurant did nice cheap lunches, dinner menu, Weds night BBQ etc, all with that great sea view.

Speaking to the clientele, many of them have been coming to this hotel every year for a decade or over, and you can see why. You could pay more for a nicer room, but the views and atmosphere made this a marvellous choice for our very short stay.

It is right on Calis beach with all the bars and restaurants nearby, but with it being on the end of the strip it is still pretty quiet and attracts maybe an older crowd than the ones further up the road.

Special mention should also go to the charismatic receptionist, who runs a very tight ship and makes sure everyone's needs are careted for. We arrived at 10am, well before our check-in time, and she had made special plans to get our room ready. Similarly, when we checked out we had a few hours wait til our pick-up came, and she made sure our bags were looked after.

All in all, a great budget option, and well worth extra for the sea views.
